My dalish would've so loved to punch the priestess in the face for calling her a heathen when my elf stated that 'your religion is not my religion'.

Isn't she a heathen? If we see Andrastians as Christians.

Tamlen... I liked him, but oh what a heartache later on in the game... Won't say more, or it's a spoiler.

I actually found him kind of annoying, and that is saying something. I liked Jowan. Tamlen was a little to confident in himself to sink well with me.

:) Well, actually, the Chantry is a heathen religion to her. They believe in a false, non-existent deity in her opinion.

As for Tamlen, he's dalish, so of course he's self-confident. There are so few self-confident companions in this game, he's actually refreshing.

I thought the same until I started talking to him more.  A major 'ahhhhhhhhh' moment when he revealed why he felt he HAD to go and explore and you couldn't go back until you did.  He's still a tad arrogant to stride in dungeons and stay after all the traps you hit, but eh, some people just don't learn

Indeed, and he paid a steep price. Poor Tamlen.

That mirror, they could have done better explaining its purpose. I chose Bard as my first Spec, I wish I went ranger first, but alas I will wait till level 14.

I played a Dalish rogue 1st playthrough- I had her planned months before release. I always feel like my first time through a game is my canon playthrough. I loved the Dalish origin and took the angle that being Dalish my character was raised to do her duty, that the needs of the clan (and later the whole country) were more important than her own. It made for a great transition into being a Grey Warden and some interesting gaming. I did allow love (for a shem no less) to slowly corrupt her commitment to duty and it made for a very sad ending.

The Dalish Elf was my favorite origin because I had my Dalish planned out before the game even came out. :) So I guess that made it more emotionally empacting for me (I almost cried when my character was forced to leave her clan!).

I DID cry when leaving the clan...

I had heard everyone ripping on this origin before I played it, so I went in with low expectations... and came away wondering what they'd been talking about. I found it to be a strong opening (even if there was backtracking) and, of all the Origins, it probably had the most interesting impact on the lore as a whole.

Like the dwarf origins, it's a good one to play if you want an excuse for your character being clueless about Ferelden, too. ;)

The dalish orgin is the only one that I have done where Duncan was forced to conscript me. Was kinda funny his final line to me before leaving was "I don't care if I have to carry you kicking and screaming YOU are coming with me" haha if only I was allowed to attack him.

Dalish elf is, in my opinion, one of the most moving of the origins. Especially as you go to leave your clan.

My first dalish had to be dragged out of her clan by Duncan and I was just about sobbing as the keeper watched me and I stalled for a last few days for the funeral.. they were effectively burying TWO of you, and you were pretty much there for your own funeral as far as the clan was concerned. That and you could never go back, never get to see your clan again... might not even get to see the forest again and have to go out and live with the shems.

Aye, I felt the same way, that Tamlen's funeral was my funeral as well, and the lostness of being sent away into the shem world.  I also find Nature of the Beast to be the most moving of the Blight plots.  I always get verklempt when Zathrian breaks the curse.  Oh, and I find it cool that the Dalish warden has actually fought darkspawn before they get to Ostagar.  I suppose that might be the case for dwarves too, I haven't done those origins yet.

My Dalish rogue is my favorite character (archer/ranger/duelist). Of course, I've always enjoyed being an elf ranger in similar games. I wish there was more about you in the origin, however.

My little quibbly disappointment was that I was hoping that the personal reunion at Post-Coronation would be the Dalish Warden's mother. The origin leaves it open what happens to her. Of course, it would be a case of serious mixed feelings... your mother abandons you as a baby, then shows up when you save the world... but I would have found that more satisfying even so.

I fell in love with the city elf origin, and have planned it out since before release as well. Today, I watched my sis play through the Dalish origin, and I think it is by far the most interesting, and definitely prepares rogue characters the best. My city elf couldn't find any arrows until Ostagar :(

The good-bye scene is very moving, made me choke up a little. It makes sense when you choose the more defiant dialogue options. My city elf is always placating, but the Dalish are very strong, self-confident and fascinating.

Thanks for the comments. I wanted to make a rogue archer and this origin story made sense, plus I haven't played it yet. I personally like the Nature of the Beast quests a lot so I think I may like the Dalish Origin. Plus I always cure the curse of the Werewolves and Fight Zathrian, so this time being a Dalish Elf, I will fight Witherfang. This Character is going to be so much fun. Problem is I got my other 2 characters sitting waiting to do the Landsmeet but I want to start this one now.

It might be ok to kill Witherfang for a variety of your games.

But as far as I understood you, a Dalish HAS to kill Witherfang from an RP-viewpoint.
Isn't it exactly vice versa? Shouldn't a young Dalish be open minded enough to see the senile stubbornness of Zathrian once (s)he spoke with the Lady of the Wood and thus do everything to help her and not the old keeper?

I'm currently playing a Dalish Elf, and I sided with Witherfang in the end. One of the dialogue options with Zathrian is (something like): How can you choose your own personal vendetta over the clan? From a RP perspective, my Dalish felt betrayed by Zethrian as Zathrian disregarded the Vir Adahlen, the Way of the Forest, putting his interests above the need of his people.

My previous character was a Dalish elf and current one is a city elf, and they are the characters I have "felt" the most.  Probably because I'm more used to the game so able to work my way into the story more, though the elven lore also adds to it.  What I am thinking, however, is that my city elf is actually a lot more rage-filled than my Dalish character was.  She pays lip service sometimes because she has learned how to survive in the human world.  However deep down she feels the oppression of the elves more keenly than my Dalish did, who was proud and confident of her status as an equal in every way to the humans.  It's like Zevran says, when you go back to the Dalish and talk to the storyteller, something like "you feel it even more when you live among them."  Exactly.

For instance, my Dalish character romanced Alistair and though it was definitely a paradigm switch for her, she was much more able to see him as a person and a peer, and ended up really loving him.  My city elf just could not trust him enough to go there, even if she did decide (round about the time he was talking about being raised by dogs) that he was much more "Soris" than "Vaughan."

Exactly my thoughts. I mean, I always helped the werewolves, but it was ME and not an RP-view :)

As Dalsih (RP) I felt obliged to be AGAINST Zathrian!
