Those paying attention to the fallout from the Sandy Hook Elemetary shooting may have noticed that NRA President Wayne LaPierre has tried the place the blame for the tragedy on video games and other forms of entertainment. The USA governement has not ignored these accusations and has annouced that it will see the research the claim of a link between viloent behavior and violent games for any validity.

In the mean time however itMissouri Rep Diane Franklin ® seems to want to use this idea to place a 1% tax on games rated T and above. The money generated from this bill will be used "for treatment of mental health
11 conditions associated with exposure to violent video games."

Stay informed on the issue Missouri residents, write your congress man your thoughts on the matter, a bill like this passing might have an consequances in other states as well.

It's gaming related news, not an invitation for political discussion, just thought people would like to know what's up.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Gamers these days already get enough of a bad rap as it is. They're trying to label us as psychotic now too. In all honesty, I don't see a bill like this passing, at least not federally.

We had a similar sort of problem in the entirety of Australia for sometime (how long I'm not sure, but it was probably since we started importing and exporting video games, so for years). Some ****** politicans refused to allow games to have an R18 (restricted to people 18 years and over) rating. So many games either weren't allowed on Australian shores at all (resorting to pirating), or they had their rating lowered to MA15+, which meant 15 year olds could play games not really suitable to them.

They finally made an R18 rating early last year.

This is bullsh*t! Meanwhile, I'm going to contemplate suicide as I open fire on a mall after killing my dog! I was inspired after attempting to save the world in a video game — with blood.

/See how ridiculous it sounds, politicians?

I thought scapegoating videogames for society's problems was supposed to be a passing fad, like blaming rock n' roll. Did someone resurrect Jack Thompson?

Blame guns, blame games, blame movies, blame anything but the animal who committed the crime and the parents who raised him.

I'm still amazed my state hasn't implemented a sales tax on Steam purchases yet. Don't tell the governor.

You know back in the 50's I believe, people blamed comic books for inciting violence in people I guess games are just the next thing to be scapegoated. And kinda like the term 'Assault weapon' the term 'violent video games' is too broad, what the heck is the requirement for a game to be labeled as violent? Dang shame that no one is willing to get to the root of the problem.

Lol, this isn't going to go anywhere, it's only been a year and a half since Brown Vs. Entertainment Merchants Association, and laws like this never last long in court. If Missouri congressmen really are considering this tax, they must have no idea how much money California was forced to reimburse the Entertainment Software Association in legal fees.

I wouldn't be suprised if this is just political posturing, but dumber laws have happened as a result of such things.

Well this should have been expected. Gaming industry has been growing, just look at how much money came into Kickstarter this year just for games as an example. So they put a blame on games, then say they're not really blaming games, then say lets have a study, & then say oh we wont ban them but since we're putting so much money into this...taxes!
If theres money, they will come.

Wayne LaPierre, sounds like some red scare talk. Is he actually able to basically call game devs traitors, cuase thats what it sounds like to me. This is really offensive.

Yeah, you're right. All I will say is, games are not the cause. If video games were the problem, why isn't every kid crazy violent?? I think bad parenting is more at fault then video games.... smh

People are SO stupid.

Idiotic god-damn people riot over sports teams. You know, a team where you have no connections to. People riot over that stupid crap. Still, sports are okay and "cool".

Gamers have NEVER rioted for a game or whatever, to my knowledge.
