Given that I've heard the strategy guide is chock full of errory goodness, I wouldn't take anything it says as gospel, much less a timeline that probably wasn't set when that thing went to the printers.

The world has been in development for years. The history of Ferelden and thedas has been so intricately and richly developed that I would seriously doubt they didn't have a time line. They have the world chronological mapped up to BEFORE the birth of C.Andranste.
Besides, personally, I am only taking into account evidence that is either the same/similar in both book, game/timeline. Or evidence that is undeniable human fact (like human babies are both between 9- 10 months after conception)
When something is contradictory, like Fiona's baby, I am refusing to draw conclusions from it because there is not sufficient data. And when the dominant combined evidence of book and game/official time line contradicts that the baby could be a guy in his early twenties, I doubt if it could be Allistair.

Flemmeth isn't that bad! i mean 60-20 years is 40 and there are some 40 year old hot chics out there! Well not sizzling maybe but still hot.
In the Stolen Throne she was clearly NOT 40 years old. She was supposed to be an old hag with wild white hair. 40-year-olds usually don't have white hair. Remember Flemeth is supposed to be very, very old according to her legend.
Edit: I mean I know that Morrigan discovers that Flemeth is using her daughters for her long life but still the book clearly makes her out to be a very old woman.

She does not want to disappoint the legends. How she would have looked in the hut is another story however.

I think Fiona is Alistair's mother; however, since Maric lost his wife I could imagine him having other relations. I've never checked out a timeline; however I would guess that the king was about four or more years older than Alistair. Oh and I feel the comment of about Alistair having met his half-brother once was when Alistair was still in redcliff which makes him 10 or younger and that would make his brother a teen and an easily distracted one at that or maybe just one who didn't really know how to deal with the fact that his bastard brother was standing in front of him.
In relation to Alistair's half sister....
Well actually I always took it that Alistair's information was obtained on the sly and perhaps is not that acurate. I'm not saying that Goldanna's mother didn't have a child but that possibly that child did die and to hide who Alistair was they claimed he was that child even though he was really Fiona's, making Goldanna not his real sister.

If you talk to Morrigan about Flemeth, you can get a line about how Morrigan can remember her looking much younger.amethyst_rose2009 wrote...

I would hope for Maric's sake she was able to transform herself into a beautiful young woman first.

Well, I don't know. Maybe she was just using magic to make her look so old in The Stolen Throne, but the book does actually say she looked like an old hag. So who knows.....

Spoiler!
hmmm have you finished Morrigan's quest? Or for that matter just given her the black grimore and had her tell you what Flemeth has been doing? I mean according to that Flemeth isn't the actual Flemeth? or is she? Maybe I read it wrong but I thought it meant that Flemeth's essence takes over the body of her 'daughters'.

The other issue I have with that is that I think the older you are with the taint lessens the chances of having a child. Fiona was probably only a Warden for a year and was able to have the child who I too believe is Alistair. The less tainted you are the better the odds. I also bet that magic can be used to help conceive a child. Morrigan's ritual shows that much.
As for Maric and Flemeth...I really don't think that they did the horizontal mambo together. I think there was a deal made sure but I think it has more to do with the Blight than anything else. It was probably related to the Dark Ritual. I'm just guessing at all this.

There will be some inconsistencies as far as the timeline of events, but, meh, what are you going to do when you have dozens of people playing in the same "sandbox," and it's easier to retcon than patch the game or make changes in reprints of the book.

Yes, I have finished that quest and yes Flemeth's essence does take over her daughters' bodies but still if you read the book she was an old woman. I don't know what else to say. Maybe it's a discrepancy between the book and the game. I'm not sure.

I think she said that it has no use, no reason to do it. They take forms of an animal because it has advantages but she refuses to take a form of another human because she already has one?

I just had a thought. (sorry op for hijacking your thread) What if it wasn't Flemeth that Maric might have had sex with but one of the daughters, and then the old woman Flemeth would take over or possess that younger woman's body. It didn't say that in the book, but that would be one possible reason why she is such an old woman in the book, but that Morrigan in the game says she remembers her mother being young. I mean, after all, she did have other daughters at different times. I don't know....could be. Just a thought. *shrugs*
Now that I could believe. Doesn't it say in the book there were a pair of eyes watching them or something like that at the hut?
