I just had a thought.  (sorry op for hijacking your thread)  What if it wasn't Flemeth that Maric might have had sex with but one of the daughters, and then the old woman Flemeth would take over or possess that younger woman's body.  It didn't say that in the book, but that would be one possible reason why she is such an old woman in the book, but that Morrigan in the game says she remembers her mother being young.  I mean, after all, she did have other daughters at different times.  I don't know....could be. Just a thought. *shrugs*

By all means, i love plot speculations :)

That might be possible but you can't turn into an old hag in less than 30 years.

Oh, I dunno, Obi Wan did it. ;)

Yes, I have finished that quest and yes Flemeth's essence does take over her daughters' bodies but still if you read the book she was an old woman.  I don't know what else to say.  Maybe it's a discrepancy between the book and the game.  I'm not sure.

Ah, what I was trying to say but not making it clear was that... yes old in the book... took over a young body shortly there after, perhaps... time passes... old again in game, but even in the game she doesn't look like what I would call hag like or for that matter does she look ancient to me... old but not ancient. *smirks*

LOL Obi Wan wouldn't be that good of a comparison. -geek mode-

The only reason Obi Wan aged so fast from the end of ROTS to ANH was due to the climate of Tatoonie. Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are also quite old when you look at them so it was explained by saying the harsh climate caused the aging of those characters and anyone else who happens to live on the planet all their lives.

Ok...now I'll go back to my dark corner of geekness.

Eewwww who said Maric had sex with Flemeth? Yuck and I always thought that Flemeth was warning Maric of the future evilness of Loghain in there time private time together, besides didn't Morrigan say that Flemeth uses and then kills her lovers? Heh!

I know this has been mentioned before but if Morrigan and Alastair are related, and you persauade Alistair to do the ritual....I wonder what the writers are going to do about that because that would totally ruin the story for me lol.

B-but, it's not as fun and perverted if there was no sex involved.

That *was* my first thought but the timing is off.

The events of the game happen 30 years after the Stolen Throne, and given Cailan's age, the events of the Calling happen about 15 years after the events of TST

That would have made the child of Fiona 15ish years old at the start of the game- which if you are a female who romanced Alistair should be making you feel very creepy.

Sooo...I'm going to conclude Maric really made a lot of illegitimate children with elves.

Yeah, these are my thoughts, too.

Also, Loghain confirms in some conversation that Alistair was born when Rowan was alive (I'm at work, so can't say exactly what he said. I'll have to check it later).

I was kinda implying the swamp was just as bad as Tattoine.  Not a place you go for your health.

As I said before they probably were just reading the chant or doing the swamp witch Hokey Pokey:

You put your swamp witch leg in,
You put your swamp witch leg out,
You throw Maric on the bed
and shake him all about,
That's what it's all about

Tee-hee, sorry couldn't resist. Image IPB

The Calling doesn't happen 15 years after the epilogue of The Stolen Throne

It does approximate 15 odd years if you take the age of Cailan as the guide. Which to be is a more stable construct. Diplomatic gifts are a plenty- who knows how many of them gave gifts.

The official end of the book before the beginning of the epilogue is the rampaging dragon and what I assume is the battle of the river Dane. After that is sister Aliss speaking to Cailan about what happened later.

It is three years after the death of the mage advisor that Maric finally overthrows the Usurper in a duel before he can become King.

Maric mentions they were thrown into Nation Building. Cailan is born and I'd assume it would take 9 months of gestation.

That makes it about 4-5 years from the Rampaging Dragon to the birth of Cailan.

Cailan is 11 when Maric leaves with the Grey Wardens.  Thus- the approximation of 15 years.

I have the book right in front of me. They are in front of the deep roads entrance. Fiona asks Maric how old is his son (Cailan) and he answers: five. So, it definately could be Alistair. They seem about 5-6 years of difference.

Good catch! I was thinking 11 or 12 as well, but that might be from the epilogue of The Stolen Throne, where Ailis is telling Cailan the tales of his father and the war.

I will have to go back and re-read the books. :)

It does mention Flemeth telling Maric about the blight and she does whisper to him about Loghain's betrayal when Loghain is standing a few feet away.  But the book also says that Maric was pale-faced when he came out of the hut several hours later and was very quiet.  So I just took that as complete and utter shock at performing a ghastly deed with Flemeth but maybe I was reading too much into that.

Maybe he was told of his future? Like killing someone he loves amongst other things.

I think it may be significant in this context that if you're playing as an elf and romancing Alistair just after his proposal you get the option: "Do you want me to come to your tent even though I'm not human" and good old Al replies: "Particularly because you're not human".

Hmmm... Taking after daddy or does he know more than he thinks he knows?

You're right, that would have left him with something to sadly think about I'm sure.  I certainly cried about it - she was my favorite character. Image IPB

In Loghain's dialogue, he only says Maric didn't want to tarnish Rowan's name, since revealing a child born out of wedlock would have reduced her to no more than a concubine.

It's completely ambiguous whether she was still alive at that point.  He didn't say she was still alive.

I'm more inclined to feel sorry for Morrigan if it's true, she has to be related to Alistair.

Oh Maker, I agree. Morrigan will have a heart-attack... The idea that they might be siblings might help Alistair understand that people are not 'bad' just because they are born and educated outside the Chantry's system. Maybe it would allow Alistair to reflect on Ferelden culture and let him govern the 'system' instead of being a tool of others, his education and circumstances. Unfortunately, I see more cognitive dissonance problems for Morrigan, if they were blood-related. She is as stubborn as the Templar, and after so many comments on the intelligence/wisdom of the templar-boy-wonder, and I think she would freeze and shatter herself.

Well, if they're both alive and find this info out at some point after the Dark Ritual takes place, I'm sure they'd be too busy taking boiling hot showers and rocking in the fetal position to reflect on much, at least at first.  Image IPB
