Now they are even releasing another huge campaign for DA. It's not fair...

On the other hand if you liked the multiplayer capabilty in Neverwinter Nights you're all out of it.
It seems like we have fallen between two chairs. We are neither single player campaign gamers nor typical MMO* gamers.
*) When I say MMO here I am more pertaining to what MMO has come to mean (thanks or rather - no thanks to WoW) instead of what it was supposed to mean from the beginning but that is another story....
What are we? What can we call ourselves? Isn't there a single game developer that can cater to our needs? Are there really so few of us or are we so poor that it just isn't economically viable to do so.
I have an example here. Don't know if it is the best but...
Counter-Strike was (and still is) the most popular online shooter game. It took 10 years before the game was released as a stand alone game. How could it take so long time?
I am sorry about my slightly whining post but I couldn't help it. I just don't like this picture. Guess I am hoping for some understanding/support or ideas from the rest of the community here...just why we are confined to a 9 years old game(?).
Another thing is that....even if Dragon Age DID get the multiplayer capability maybe it would not be enough. I am thinking about the greatly simplified workings of the game...made so that console players can relax with just a hand hold controller in their sofa while they play....not at all that gaming style that we are used to in NWN...

No, really, the thing is....you can continue to play single player all you like if that is your choice...you wouldn't even notice there is an option to play multi-player...just like it is in Neverwinter Nights...but hey...this feels like I am repeating myself....

Persistant NWN worlds were not MMOs. They were superior (opinion) to MMOs. They were dynamic environments run, in real time, by their creators. They were about the players (good ones anyway)
(More opinion) the game remains my favorite game of all time (the persistant world aspect). I hope that some day Bioware returns to the formula (I'm not talking D&D, though 4th Edition would be perfect) of Toolset, DM Log In, Player Log In.
A game where I could actually RP... I long for the days of NWN.

I hear you. But I guess the sad part is:
I remember about NWN where it is said than the big part of the purchased NWN cd-key never registred online, which means most of NWN players never bothered to play online. (Remember how HotU was lacking multiplayer capabilities because there was not enough resources to make it so. Single player content was already the priority even in NWN)
I don't know if this always of actuality but since publishers are a bit shy with their game statistics, it's hard to know
So if this behaviour has not changed, that means that the main RPG customer target is the single player type.
Then comes the question, does the cost of developping multiplayer capabilities is worth the benefits financially wise, while you can use the developping resource to sell further more single player contents.

The biggest problem I may see is the pause option. It's one heck of a mess in a game like Baldur's gate, when playing multiplayer. I don't know how in DA would look like, considering I pause aprox every... 4 seconds?
Why would you need to pause? There are other players controlling their characters.

Bleh...I don't like playing games on other people's time. I don't like being around people in general. I'm an anti-social cave troll.

If you think you're hard done by, consider all the poor Shattered Steel fans BioWare abandoned.

I'm confused as to why ME and DA are lacking multi-player. They'd be perfect for each other.
Because contrary to popular belief adding multiplayer is more complicated than waving a magic wand.

Exactly the same way it worked in NWN. There's not much cause for pause really, especially when the game is being run by a DM.
