The game, in fact, tells you the opposite. How else do you think people have come to this conclusion? lol....
Also, the devs have not once said "yes, the breathe scene means Shepard lives, undeniably." And they never will say that. There's a reason.
Once again:
In the game:- Shepard
takes a sharp gasp in => That's an awakening breath. A dying breath is more like a slow breath out.
- Shepard's squadmates only put up his/her name on the memorial wall of the dead in Control and Synthesis as well as the low and middle EMS versions of Destroy where Shepard actually died.
In the High EMS Destroy, where Shepard lived, they don't.Around the game:- Artbook calls High EMS Destroy the
"Shepard lives" ending.- Name of the breath scene in the game files: "End03_
Shepard_Alive_Fem.bik" for Femshep and "End03_
Shepard_Alive_Male.bik" for male Shepard.
Bioware quotes:-
You may notice that in the “Shepard lives” ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.
LinkThere's another more recent one than that, but I forgot where it is. Maybe I'll dig it out later if I feel like it.
So what supports your interpretation?
