this.

Of course, that impedes on the idea of headcanon.

Still, ME4 will not have Shepard. That is all we know now.

Spec-spec-speculation!

But hey, if that's how you want to headcanon the other endings going, that's fine. It's not how I do, but I guess not everyone has my sunny outlook.

The game, in fact, tells you the opposite. How else do you think people have come to this conclusion? lol....

Also, the devs have not once said "yes, the breathe scene means Shepard lives, undeniably." And they never will say that. There's a reason.

File names say nothing at all. Some of the synthesis files are named "JoinTheReapers" but that isn't what actually happens in Synthesis.

I'm a game-developer myself. Me and the company I work for often name files silly names that might not 100% match with the actual content in the file, as long as the name makes it clear for the developers what the file is and what it does. Keep in mind that you, the consumer, is not even supposed to see the names of these files.

There is no irony. You don't join the reapers in Synthesis, period. Your headcanon and fan-fiction means nothing to me.

Once again:

In the game:

- Shepard takes a sharp gasp in => That's an awakening breath. A dying breath is more like a slow breath out.
- Shepard's squadmates only put up his/her name on the memorial wall of the dead in Control and Synthesis as well as the low and middle EMS versions of Destroy where Shepard actually died. In the High EMS Destroy, where Shepard lived, they don't.

Around the game:

- Artbook calls High EMS Destroy the "Shepard lives" ending.
- Name of the breath scene in the game files: "End03_Shepard_Alive_Fem.bik" for Femshep and "End03_Shepard_Alive_Male.bik" for male Shepard.

Bioware quotes:

-

You may notice that in the “Shepard lives” ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.

Link

There's another more recent one than that, but I forgot where it is. Maybe I'll dig it out later if I feel like it.

So what supports your interpretation?

That's a strange developing practice you have there. Namings don't necessarily correspond to the final content, but usually correspond to the intentions.
Also the guardian plainly says that "you will become like us".
Though you are sure of "JoinTheReapers"? The only thing similar I know of is "BecomeAReaper" which is Control.

Three facts (assume Starchild is not lying, if it were we have another different situation):

- Shepard's DNA is broken down and then dispersed
- The pods the Collectors use to create a Reaper break the organic's DNA down and then "disperse" it into a Reaper hull
- The human Reaper was still under Construction just where Shepard is right then

Now, what do you make of that?

In no single ending do you become a reaper, other than the Refuse ending perhaps.

Of course the file-names make somewhat sense. They always make clear what is inside the file. But sometimes we like to name the file of a certain steampunk character "SteampunkNaziOfficer", not because he is a Nazi (he isn't), but because he looks like one (with a long grey coat, a hat and lots of medals, similar to what an actual Nazi officer might look like.

You're first designing the looks and then create the logic/background/role? In any case that's a strange way of creating assets as it's usually the other way round, which results in descriptive namings that do indeed reflect the intentions and not something that will at least somewhat change over the course of the development.

I understand perfectly. You think that because you do something a certain way for certain reasons, ones that are opposite from how most people do them, that you somehow have a point.

If I eat ice cream with a fork, that doesn't mean I can use that as evidence that other people do as well.

It totally depends on what type of asset we're talking about.

Important characters and assets are indeed written and named first before they get a visual design and actual 3D model. These characters will end up with file names such as "BillyTheDestroyer" or "PlayerCharacterMale".
But less important characters, often character who don't have an actual name (simple background characters or nameless NPCs), are named based on their looks, like SteampunkNaziOfficer.
