Think; League of Legends, Call of Duty, etc.
Would you call them sports? Why? Why not? Just curious on people's views to this question, as a surprising number of people (on the LoL forums at least) consider it a sport.
Personally, I don't think either have grounds to be called a sport at all, but then a common argument is that chess is also considered a sport (by the IOC) and so these should also be. Anyways, post your thoughts if you want, I'm just interested to see people's opinions.
Would you call a competitive online game a sport?

The term "sport" is starting to become outdated, in my eyes, due to the higher inclusion of technology that allows for mental games to become competitive in both one on ones and team things alike.
Though not a "physical" sport most of these games require twitch reflexes of the hands, mental on the spot decisions, and some require team work. Games like DOTA2/LoL are very close to the sport like game. In a game of football(american) and soccer you have two teams trying to get a ball past a certain line or into something. Both require physical prowess and planning to be able to one up the other team. In DOTA or LoL you have two teams, while not physically, mentally trying to one up the other player while also trying to "destroy" the enemy's bases. And a lot of these mental decisions are on the spot and also well planned out in the beginning. Heavy coordination and movements of the mouse are also needed to do a lot of impressive feats.
So, honestly, I'd call it a "mental sport" or "mind sport".

Well, it's certainly not a physical sport. If people want to call it a "sport" based on competition alone... I guess that doesn't bother me. People who actually do gaming competitively are quite skilled.

I agree with the term sport becoming outdated, but it is defined with a physical aspect in mind. That aside, I also agree that professional LoL or CoD players are extremely skilled at what they do, however I (personally) do feel "mental" or "mind" sports to be more accurate terms, or even just competitive gaming.
