Are you running the Windows 7 x64 RC by any chance? I was running an earlier RC version of W7 x64 and was getting some weird crashes too. I have 4GB RAM DDR2, all four banks of my MoBo populated. I think it had to do with the memory leak and being an early, not so stable build of Windows 7. It got to the point where one time it corrupted my system files and couldn't get back into windows, just a black screen with the mouse pointer, then after a couple minutes, a reboot of the entire system.

I reinstalled Windows 7 x64 now with RC 7137.0.090521 and it is much better now.

yea I checked the temps and its loading the hell out of my cpu, gettin 4 cores to about 85+ C and rising, til it just completely shuts down the computer, would sure like a fix from bioware, I have never had issues in any game ever b4, and this game...its not like its progressively bad over time...its like..the second i load into game it starts rising quick.

I had this issue as well, after installing the DLC I believe. What solved it for me was to set the affinity to 1 core. To do that you just load up DAO ctrl+esc out, hit ctrl+alt+delete to call up the task manager. Go to processes and locate the dragon age .exe, right click and select Set Affinity, then choose either CPU core, doesnt matter which.

This reduced CPU load from 100% to 55% and I am no longer overheating and going into forced shutdowns.  The only drawback is you HAVE to do this every time you load up the game, but it is a good workaround until they release a fix

Anyone had this issue, seems to be completely random for me...during moments when something happens in game, when I talk to someone, open a chest, just suddenly the screen goes black and the computer is off.  Im running windows 7 with a 8800 gt, quad core, 4gb or ddr2 ram, shouldn't have any issues, and i can't imagine the same computer that runs crysis and crysis warhead is overheating on this game.

PSU is on its way out.

The same thing started happening to me. Cant play for more than a few minutes anymore since the game shuts down my system. Setting affinities didnt help either. Going to test with some other settings etc. later today to see if there's anything I can do about this myself.

im also getting this issue. the game was working fine until i saved first entering the The Wilds. when i started the game up again in that area id get about a few minutes of play before my screen would go into sleep mode and my pc would freeze. i wasnt having issues with the game before. graphics card settings are on default as well. no offense to bioware but its not the most graphically intense game, so why it would cause a strain on my pc is beyond me.

I managed to play through the entire game without a problem. One my second playthrough, my PC just started to shut off at random moments in the game. There seems to be no correlation as to when it shuts down. Something has changed recently that is causing this problem for me.
