Zevran - Adore to Love

Anyhoo, I did, in fact, get the scale to trip over to "Love" but in the WEIRDest way. I am wondering if there is another way to do this, since it just seemed so strange
Hadn't spent the night with Zevran until approval was at 100
In afterward dialog, chose to say 4. "We need to talk"
Then asked if this was his plan all along (option 2, i think)
Then asked 2. "Is that a denial? I can't tell"
Then said his approach to romance was 3. "fine by me"
this instantly got a -9 Zevran disapproves
But oddly enough, it also got the scale tripped over to Love and not just Adore. i thought that was weird, so tried the dialog again, but seems that this is the ONLY path that moves into the love option. is that correct? i haven't yet headed to denerim, so i don't know if meeting talisan would have made the switch also or what.
i suppose that sort of makes sense - the PC being cautious earns zevran's respect and he wants to reassure her/him and so that marks the beginning of love. just...was not at ALL the dialog i expected.

If you want to keep it at Love just because you like the way it looks, don't raise the approval by going to the tent, it will go back to Adore. Gifts and conversation is fine, though. Once you get it up to 100, tent is safe again.
Edit: I think doing the dialog that way is an easter egg, others assure me that it's a bug. But I agree it does make sense. If you want to gain approval in that conversation, just tease him back when he teases you. "I bet you're good at a lot of things" is totally not subtle. "Hmmmmm, I had forgotten about THAT part" very fun. And definitely don't say you need to talk before asking if it's part of his plan. Men, ALL men, even elf ones I suppose, hate those four words!
Second edit: Wow, I just read the steps you did and there's another way to get it there. You ask him if it was part of his plan, then ask him what it means, then ask him about love. Interesting. Maybe it is just a bug. I'm sad!

It is fun, though, having it SAY "Love" even when it's still at adore.

With Morrigan it was easy to tell that she wasn't really at "love" because the specific behavior changes that happen when she really hits "love".

Also, I can't ever get Zevran to fall out of love with me or anyone, except Alistair, to realize that I'm not in a relationship with him. I broke up with him twice this time, then gave him other gifts, met Taliesen, and I'm again ending the game with remarks about my love for both of them. Morrigan tells me while trying to convince me to talk Alistair into doing the ritual, "What about Alistair? Don't you think he should be around to make a difference as king? And what if he lost you, the love of his life... what do you think that would do to him?" Followed by, "And what of Zevran? What do you suppose he would tell you to do when faced with the chance of losing his love?" (Not word for word quotes but close.) I had the option to tell them both I loved them before leaving the city gates too. I already have a playthrough where Al and PC went off to rebuild the GWs and Zev goes too. I don't think either of them realized the other was going though. LOL Leliana annoys me a lot but the one thing I like better about her is when you end it, you end it.

I've had all the Wynne warning talks and the jealousy talks from Leliana and Alistair long before ever going to Denerim. On the 360, we don't see any words or numbers though, just a graphing bar basically.

I meant when Wynne comes around and approves of the relationship. Morrigan has a different talk as well, asking about your sex life (you should have gotten the Alistair version). Morrigan says that about Alistair just before the ritual as well if you've ever romanced him, even if you broke it off; she probably says it about a broken-up-with Zevran as well; their feelings don't go away, after all. As long as Zevran is at friendly, you will get a lot of the loyal speeches and also the storm the gates dialog. He's just as loyal as a friend as he is a lover. As long as you didn't get the earring from Zevran, you're not bugged I don't think. Zevran, if you ask him to, will join you with the gray wardens if you're just friends. There are small differences in the dialog. Like if you're friendly, he'll say that there are certain bodily fluids even he won't touch, whereas if he's in love, you can tell him you're only going if he goes with you, and he says naturally, since you caught him, now you're stuck with him.
Of course, it's not like this game doesn't get completely bugged with the relationships. Or the endings that don't involve Alistair being king.

i admit - is quirky.
truly, i was not a huge fan of either alistair or zevran. (i'm still hung up on kaiden from mass effect - loyal, thoughtful, incredibly useful in a fight), i was pleased to find that zevran was actually far more loyal and honest than ANY of the other characters. he's the one romance interest who never lies to you at all. so, assuming that he is attractive to an elf who was trapped in the circle for all these years, he makes a nice role play romance
(again though, i was wishing for someone more like kaiden...hm...we'll see what ME2 offers in just a few weeks!)

You can generally tell if you're in a romance with Morrigan, Alistair, or Zevran if when you ask them something personal/private there are options around kissing, tent sharing, or ending it. (Leliana is weird, she doesn't have the private conversation option on the PC Patch 1.02.)
You're absolutely right. Even their greetings are different. I actually prefer Alistair's friendly greeting -- it's warmer than his love greeting for sure (wow, he gets so cold, does he not). With Zev, I think his friendly is "What say you," as opposed to "I am yours" for love. Not sure about Morrigan.

Anyway, it annoys me that no one else will listen to what I've told them about who I've picked and makes me feel bad for Zev that he just can't seem to accept it. My PCs have both cared for him but neither has even been in love with him.

Well I haven't ever gotten his earring but if I try to talk to him, he tries to make me choose between him and Alistair yet again. So I just reload rather than take another -20+ hit that I don't have a way to fix again (that happened last game too). And the first time, I didn't get the option to tell him I loved him at the gates even though Morrigan still used both of them to try and convince me to do the ritual. Also, I can't remember the differences exactly but I know what he said to me at the gate was different this time too... something about not taking him with me and that he wouldn't want to be anywhere else but by my side. It's funny too because last time he fought with me against Taliesen but this time he picked me but wouldn't stay to fight.

It's not that people won't listen; it sounds like the romance definitely got turned on again. It's not that difficult to do with any of them. I've done it with Leliana more times than I can count -- I now just don't even ask her about Marjolaine because that will lead to her falling in love. I think Zevran says the "(with you by my side/By your side) I'd storm the gates of the dark city, do not doubt it" whether you're friendly or in love. And he'll stay with you to rebuild the gray wardens either way if you ask him to.
It's too bad the relationships can be so buggy. The PC is just SO irresistible I guess! I find it terrific that it actually feels bad when you break up with them as well. The first time I broke up wiht Alistair and he called Zevran a lucky bastard, I was floored at how much of a heel I felt like. From choosing pre-written dialog addressed to a character in a video game, and I STILL felt crappy. This is why I love this game so much!

alistair does go totally cold after you actually romance him. was why i ended up dumping him again and again and again - and then just being friendly this time.
i swear, i found him most attractive when playing as a male PC (What does THAT say?)

This!!
I don't see Alistair changing from 'Yesssss?' to 'Something you need, my dear' as a coldness at all. To me, it always felt as if he was finally comfortable with you, the relationship, and himself. He no longer feels he has to protect himself with humor. He does still say things like 'My love" when you click over to him too.

I must say that breaking up with Zev is sweeter and felt less bitter than breaking it off with Alistair, since the templar boy-wonder gave me two different demotions, -26 when I told Zev that I would stay with him, and -15 when Alistair and the char finally had the closure talk. On the other hand, breaking things up Zevran can be have very different negative approval numbers, and when done, I still pin for him.
Zevran romance was my favorite, I wasn't parenting him, and it felt more grown up and wiser. Plus, with the mod which changes his looks (better skin and a dark crew-cut hair) he becomes more irresistible.

You do know, of course, that you don't have to be romancing Alistair to marry him, right? I've done this a few ways. Never romanced him, and dumped him. You get a different, more satisfying ending if you've never romanced him. And what's best about it is that Zevran will stay on as your lover.
I think the funniest one I did was out of curiosity, though. I had Alistair at 100 friendly, never romanced, and just as we were entering the landsmeet, turned the romance on and chose for them to get married (so no sex for Ali). So when it came time for the "heir discussion" instead of my usual telling him I was going to have a baby with someone else (heh, Zevran's son on the throne FTW), I chose, "Not for lack of trying." He started giggling like a school girl and ran away.

I've gotten two disapprovals from Zev in the same way, cutie... both times. One when I told Al I chose him and one when I actually told Zev. And I've gotten it a third time in another conversation with Zev and could have gotten it a 4th time if I didn't reload. LOL
I need to get the PC version of this game. I want a mod that makes Zev somewhat physically appealing to me too!

Anyway, for some strange reason, Zev went from "Adore" to "love" after I got -5 disapproval when I let Vaughn go free. In retrospect, I should have killed the bastard, but my PC elf (mage) didn't know the history, and all she knew was she needed him for Landsmeet. not complaining though :-), because then I got this whole new dialogue I missed the first time - yes girls and boys, the "L" word chat! ahhh I am hopelessly hooked on Zevran!
