I started another thread a minute ago, about how I can pretty much only play as an Engineer, and I got to thinking why I don't really care for other classes.  There are gameplay things, like the simple nature of the Soldier's tactics.  But there are other reasons, which have to do more with the in-game world.

When I play as a Soldier, I generally feel compelled to put the mission before all else.  It doesn't feel right to go galavanting around the galaxy to fetch lost siblings when there is a real threat I've been ordered to deal with.  So, my soldier tended to be renegade.  Infiltrator seems to me much the same way for me.

As an Adept, I also wound up being renegade, but for different reasons.  I just felt mad with power!  I mean, I was an incredibly powerful being, and surely no one was going to defy me.  A neat idea, but not who I want to save the galaxy.  Honestly, I will probably try Adept again whenever I get well and truly sick of Engies.

I have no interest in Vanguard, and while I really thought I would love Sentinel, they have all the wrong powers from the tech and biotic pools to be fun.  I would much rather have Pull than Throw, and AI Hacking instead of Cryo Blast.

Then there's Engineer!  Suddenly, the game is more interesting.  I see a problem, and I fix it.  And more importantly, I try to fix it so that it works out well.  A Soldier can steamroll a conflict between two people with intimidation.  An Engineer can explain why a particular solution works best for everyone.

And where an Adept can get lost in their own power, an Engineer relies on teamwork, and knows that their power is technology and wit, and approaches situations with their limitations in mind.

And maybe most importantly, I feel I can mesh with the crew better.  In 1, I can have techy conversations with Tali and Garrus, or pretty much any of the crew.  In 2, Mordin.  MORDIN.  And Tali and Garrus, of course.  Even Miranda would probably be interesting to talk to, if I didn't want to smash her nose in so badly.  In 3, it's pretty much the same roster, but I love them.  And you're on a spaceship.  How can you be on the Normandy and NOT want to poke and prod and learn everything about it as an Engineer?

So, pretty much, I want to know if anyone else makes major decisions based on your class, or gender, or whatever arbitrary factors there may be?

And do you have a favorite class based on those roleplaying reasons?

Well, my Renegade FemShep is a Vanguard with the Dominate power, if that gives you any indication. She gets a certain endorphin rush when she controls others.
