BSN users, do you consider yourselves kind? Online, IRL, or both? If not in both arenas, or either, explain why not.

EDIT2: The tally below is unofficial. I tallied each post myself. The tally above is offical -- users can vote for themselves. The official tally was started after the thread topic and not all thread posters participated in the poll, so I took a separate, unofficial tally for in-thread use.

I tallied every response on kindness so far:

And 10 posters believe they are unconditionally kind.

39 posters stated they are kind with a caveat -- "I am kind, but..." "I am kind when..." "I am kind unless..." "I am kind to [these people]..." . etc.

11 posters said they were not generally kind.

17 posters said they did not know stating, "It's debatable..." "I hope so..." "Some people would say I am..." "I'm not the best judge..." etc.

Not all posts were serious and those were not included in the tally.

Just trying to understand the BSN, mostly. I may mention the results briefly in a speech on the coarseness of interent culture in my Public Speaking class, but that's a big maybe. I'm not getting very many serious answers.

Debatable. The internet has definitely numbed my caring for the feeling of others and their opinions.

Especially the BSN. Rude, sarcastic, demeaning and obnoxiousness are all common attributes I have seen in many members here and it does rub off on you. The longer I stay on the internet, the more I become a ******.

The internet has influenced us all to some extent. Due to anonymity, I think it reveals the real side to that specific person. IRL they may be kind, but on the internet they are a completely different person.

Would I consider myself kind? Yes, very much so. And I don't think I'll ever stop being it.

But I can't help noticing that I'm becoming more and more weary, in real life as well as in my online activities. Stress, frustration and kindness don't go well together sometimes...

Thank you for your response. So, generally, you think the BSN has brought out latent characteristics in most users?

That why in real life you don't hang out with people that ****** you off. On the internet you have no other choice than dealing with their rudeness and behavior.

So you might think that people are less kind than what they let's you see but it's just not true. You simply  more often have to tolerate them on the internet.

I do think that people are much less classy and tactful on the internet because they don't have to deal with you personnaly and have no reputation to protect because anonimity But they're not less ****..

Plus you can't put face on a text.. It's just  very different socially. Plus remember that sometime it's difficult to know what their truly mean. A text is different. You don't see their body language and hear their voice. i'm pretty sure How I read a text is  different than you ... and the tone and voice I put to each of the text I read. it's just different than real life.

I am too kind in real life. For instance, almost daily, I'm the only teenager on the morning bus who gives his seat up for the older people. (Pretty sad more people don't.) Over the internet, I don't have the same kindness. Though, in both real life and the internet, I'm quite blunt and willing to say my opinion.

Remind me of that person once. She seemed distant and fearful of me. One day I had to work with her and we had a blast .. and the first impression I gave to her was ''STUCK UP'' and ''ARROGANT'' ..  and like she said ... ''don't come close to me  or Ill kick your ass''

Yet I was just shy, lol .. Man she was such a beauty. Any guy would have been shy around her .

If you're kind in only certain instances and you consciously decide certain people are unworthy of your kindness, are you actually a kind person? I wouldn't think so, and the question is, in general IRL, online, or in both arenas, are you kind? And it can be argued that for real kindness to manifest an element of uncertainty, dislike, or hate is essential in a relationship. If your definition of kindness is different, however, please elaborate.
