Good god, this thread went downhill fast!

PS: Prostitution objectifies the prostitute, be it female or male. As the poster above says, it is the same thing as buying a 70' tv, except without any warranty.

But if buyers and sellers know what the deal is, I don't feel that neither is being taken advantage off.

It was doomed because he mentioned some he did not like about the perfect Witcher game. This was doomed to mindless bickering before it ever began.

Mention The Witcher or TES in any thread outside of the Off - Topic section, and watch it devolve into a cluster****.

Too many people are of the mind that sex = love in this thread.

From his tumblr, Gaider obviously has some great ideas concerning the romances in DA:I, I for one hope he uses them.

I`d like to see a romance with someone older than my PC. Don`t think that has been done in a Bioware game before? Well, the elves in BG2 are technically older, but they don`t count. Usuall yin Bioware games the love interests are of the same age as the PC.

Leliana was older then the pc, probably in the 10-15 years older range, though they never specified her exact age.

What? Do you have any evidence of this?
Because that tidbit, if it is true, might actually make Leliana kind of interesting to me.

Leliana: "Oh, Warden, I want to keep your eyelashes in a jar."
Warden: "MORRIGAN, THAT OLD LADY KEEPS HITTING ON ME!" :crying:
Morrigan: *evil snicker*

They get really aggressive and defensive. I probably need to avoid being sucked into the drama the next time someone mentioned the word "Witcher". It's a game so perfect that it should be reserved for all ages.

Wait, she wasn't interesting to you in the first place?

Granted, I might have slightly preferred Morrigan were she available, but Leliana is lovely.

Well, the whole "I SHALL DO AS THE MAKER COMMANDS" thing put me off a bit.
She was just so...boring. There was nothing that stood out to me. Her stories weren't particularly interesting, she wasn't particularly funny...she was just...well, a nice girl. Nothing wrong with that, mind you.

Not to mention that I was so hung up on Morrigan, Andraste herself could have dropped from the sky and my Warden would still have been sitting near the fire, staring at Morrigan's tent longingly.
In comparison to her, all other companions are bound to look boring and ordinary.

I don't know... Morrigan's interesting, but to be frank, she's by far the least mature member of the party, and I don't know how well a long-term relationship would go. Also, how was she that interesting for you?

In comparison to Dragon Age 2 that might easily be the case, but that's not saying much.

The usual pattern on these forums is that when someone mentions any feature of TW series or TES in comparison to DA, someone else who never played the games makes a grand sweeping statement about the said feature, blows things out of proportion, resulting in the thread spiralling out of control.

All Gaider said  in his opinion was that he felt like the sex cards of TW objectified the women. Take a look at the thread now.

Well, considering that she leaves at the end, the matter of a long-term relationship might be kind of irrelevant really. Although I guess it's completly up to the player to devise their personal headcanon of how that would go.

What made her interesting? Hmm...well, for one, her views on the world. I might not agree with them, but they are fascinating to listen to. And I have to admit...I kind of fell in love with her at first sight.  She is wonderfully sarcastic and I love that about characters.
(Also, the "Yes, my mother. Did you assume I spawned from a log?" comment. That was hilarious.)

I... don't know. I definitely agree that she's intelligent, but her worldviews seem, to me, to be half edgy adolescence and half the product of abusive parenting.

I really wished Duncan was an LI. My young Amell mage would have loved him since she was into more experienced guys. Alas she had to stick with Zevran. Which has no sexy beard

Never been done? Of course it has! Quite a few times in fact... The Wardens age in DAO is never stated, meaning all of the LI's could potentially be older than him/her. In my case, my female Cousland was 20 years old, she was the youngest member of the party, save for her loyal hound. Alistair, her lover, was only a few years older than her.

Hawke, I believe, is somewhere in his/her early twenties. Isabela is almost certainly older than Hawke, as is Anders. Actually, Merrill is the only LI I can see definitely being younger than Hawke. But then DA isn't the best example, as ages are never specified.

Mass Effect

Shepard - 29 (ME1)

Kaidan - 32 (ME1)
Thane - 39
Liara (Yes, she IS technically older than Shepard)
Miranda - 35

I just wonder how this worldview will handle the realization that one can have more than just vaginal sex.

Touching on a few things in the thread:

- Men aren't objectified half as much as women in media. Not even close. 'The Witcher' might just be one game, but surely you can see how to some women it's just one more piece of media in a long line of media that gives the impression that it's okay to treat women as objects? Seriously, name me one game - that isn't made specfically for that purpose - where you collect 'sex cards' of men. If such a game existed, no way would it be applauded the way 'The Witcher' is, whether the feature was optional or not. In fact, I bet most of the guys in here saying 'it's not a problem!!' would be saying something completely different in that case.

- I've always read Anders as pansexual, personally. In Awakening, I saw him as a guy who liked sex and thought it was fun, and the gender of his partner didn't matter much. I also thought a lot of his comments to Nathaniel had some innuendo going on. So him hitting on my male Hawke didn't throw me at all in DA2.

- As a queer woman, I was thrilled when I found the DA games because I wasn't limited to a straight protagonist. It was a nice change.

On topic -

I agree with Gaider. I like that the romances are small subplots, even within the LI's character arcs, and if he can't be as varied as he'd like, then keeping things 'fair' is the best way to go.
