Some very ill-informed people have tried to claim that Shepard could survive any of the following:

-Destroy tube explosion
-Destroy wave
-20km wide explosion originating from where he is

And if they claim he is on Earth (still literal):

-Being in space without a sealed suit
-Reentering Earth's atmosphere
-Hitting the ground

Shepard could maybe have survived one of these things, and only one: the Destroy tube explosion.

Let's have a look, shall we?

Oh look, Shepard is completely incinerated. And no, you can't claim that it's just the character model disappearing, because there are very obvious scorch marks on the ground. And yes, this is visible without flycam, so you can't claim that either.

Shepard is completely vaporized. Explain the breath scene without using "bad riting" or handwaving.

Remnants of the previous ending. It's why the stargazer scene is still there. It makes little sense to be underdeveloped when the galaxy quickly rebuilt after the Reaper war.

FlyCam certifiably breaks the lore. I sure as hell never saw that when I picked Destroy.

This video comes from the same imbeciles who complain "OMG SHEPUR IS STAREN AT TEH WALL WHILE THANEZ FIGHTAN!!!" Right, and then he/she turns back instantly when Thane's stabbed and yells it out.

None of this is supposed to happen. Ignore it.

Handwaving.

Good quote, but impossible.

It's visible without flycam, you didn't read.

That's the thing. You know full well we can't.

Thinly veiled IT thread is thinly veiled.

And without requiring to meta-knowledge, such as "the file is named shepard lives".

Honestly I suppose the writer(s) just expected the player  to feel like "hell yeah my Shepard is still alive !!" without trying to figure out how it was even remotely possible. And it's the only thing that really annoys me about this ending, certainly because I'm one of those people who always need to rationalize everything.

Does it count as bad writing ? Perhaps.

I never really believed that's Shepard to begin with. There are plenty of N7 marines in the Alliance, some of them must have survived. Besides, Shepard's armor is smoked and he either doesn't have the N7 tags on him or they're not visible throughout the game. Could very well be another N7 who will be the main char of the next game. That or it just wasn't thoroughly thought-out

If you can't then there's something wrong with your interpretation. I'm open to all suggestions that make sense.

Lots of handwaving.

I'm not suprised. They can't explain it, so they don't even try. All because they don't want to admit the only rational explaination, for whatever twisted reasons they might have.

I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

Wrong. It's Shepard. The file says so and Bioware has said so.

Bad writing and handwaving. These are just as viable as IT, if not more so. There doesn't always have to be a "master plan". Sometimes, people just balls something up.

Lazarus project is impossible at face value. How does Shepard's brain stay intact?

Quit trying to cherry pick where to apply realism in fiction in order to justify your interpretation while discrediting others.

A long list of reasons make that very plausible.

I don't care about what the file says. Data-mining isn't how I explain what's going on in a game. I know that Bioware said that "the LI refuses to think they're dead" but it doesn't make much sense to me unless the part of the Citadel he's on didn't get destroyed by a good stroke of luck and he didn't bleed to death before all fleets that ran away from the explosions came back and picked him up

So, handwaving then.

He could've survived the tube blast and somehow made it to the beam which gave him a ride back to Earth.

I know we didn't see any visible point of re-entry for the beam but it is possible.
