Would your ending choice change if it was the real world?

I know mine wouldn't. But then again, I'm the oddball who hasn't declared preference for an ending.

Well in reality, where you currently are right now, you act like a pompus douche. And I myself value how people act in the real world much more than judgeing what they do in a video game.

BSN's the real world?

From what I hear it's a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

The only really arrogant Destroy fans are the ITers ; if you don't choose Destroy you're a deluded fool.

I agree with this I've seen a lot of ITers try to force it on people

Sure, it's not perfect, no analogy ever is. I usually try to find unarguably clear ones to illustrate the principle with less ambiguity than is present in the real discussion (or to simply find a currently less controversial way of illustrating it). The point is that whilst both are viable which is more likely? I feel that some Control supporters don't see it as the gamble it is, and one that I've not heard anything to convince me isn't a very long shot.

And from a metagame perspective, I'd say that's the big reason it's in the paragon spot in the 'dialogue wheel' at the end, and the blue option instead of the red. Paragon Shep has a long record of doing dumb, optimistic things on the belief that it could pay off in the long run.

Though, were I making the analogy, I'd compare the situation straight up to the heretic geth in ME2. Is it better to wipe them out and take no chances their reasoning spreads, or to rewrite them and gamble on the geth, with your only assurances the functioning of the nonheretics? That's just where my brain went with the first playthrough.

I've never argued that it is taking a big chance.

I usually argue for whichever option is taking a pummeling. Sure, I have Shepards who've shot the tube, swan-dived, shot the kid, and grabbed the handles. If you were to ask me, personally, which one I'd choose, I don't know how I'd answer.

The ending debates that I've had here at BSN have made me really bitter about this place. Yeah, Destroy has its merits. But an uncomfortably large number of Destroy supporters are very defensive about their choice, and they can be rather vicious towards those who don't pick it.

Why don't we take a quick looksie at each endings' "support" thread...

Destroy -- http://social.biowar.../index/12264531
Control -- http://social.biowar.../index/12263044
Synthesis -- http://social.biowar.../index/12153660
Refuse -- None available.

Two of them have troll posting on the front page. One is clean, and ironically, projecting that supporters from the other side will come in and troll their poor thread.

Hehehe.
Thanks for this thread, OP. It's been very fun! :o

Boohoo. ITers are such meanies. "Forcing" their theory on people by, like, talking about it. And insisting that the end of a game about indoctrination was about indoctrination. Jerks.

I remember three ending threads asking people why they loved their choice, and Destroy had a significant number of people who didn't...

They saw it as the least reprehensible...
Control had fewer people like that, and Synthesis had the fewest...

To be fair... control and synthesis are both comically long in part because people come in just to argue that those endings are the wrong choice.

Irelda2 actually has made some good arguments for Synthesis, and honestly, if it weren't for how it was implemented, I'm 100% for merging man a machine (I am a Deus Ex fan).  Most Synthesis supporters tend to agree that the Green Beam of Ultimate Conversion is pretty ridiculous.  Other than that, there is the issue of giving synthetics "humanity"...so, there are a couple of reasons why I don't fall into the group of Synthesis supporters.

I don't think I ever fully convinced him about Control.

The same can be said of the Bsners who chose the other two options. I have seen them call those who picked Destroy everything from murderers to "lovers of genocide". Being called those things would have a tendency to make one 'defensive', especially when others choose to be vicious to those who didn't choose otherwise.
