Lol it's more hilarious if you like Refuse; holy hell do some people hurl the "moron/arrogant/******/leteveryonedieyouassfornoreason" insults at you for the lulz.

But yeah, doesn't everyone already get that all the endings kinda suck and make no sense regardless? Just pick whatever you like best and let it alone.

You can tell he's bothered by the choices...

I loved his threads.  I wonder if he ever decided on a perfered ending...

I don't think I ever fully convinced him about Control.

Heh, I'm definitely bothered by the choices. I still haven't committed myself to one. I've decided to wait until all the DLC is released. I'm hoping that I will be able to gain just a little bit more information or context that will help me finally choose an ending.

My major problem is that I genuinely like the results of Synthesis. Not the green stuff, but the concept. It makes sense to include organics in the tech singularity. And as the universe gets older, the hostile conditions will hinder both the development and survival of organic life. Frankly, synthetic life has a much greater chance of surviving the far distant future. Synthesis grants the longevity and versatility of synthetic life to organic life.

I strongly suspect that BioWare intended for Synthesis to be the best ending. But they botched the entire presentation. It's far too easy to interpret it in the negative way, which is what most people understandably do. For example, I can't force such a cosmic change on beings who may not want it. I think BioWare was trying to say that what we are is not as important as who we are. However, their fantasy magic and forced transformation completely invalidate their point. The intended message is completely lost even in the Extended Cut. Nonsense like "organic energy" just nails the coffin shut.

And so I'm left with Control and Destroy. And I've read countless arguments both for and against each one.

If anything, Destroy is the one most likely to be a trick, since it's the one most tailored to what Shepard wants.

Imagine if shooting the tube actually caused Synthesis. Or disabled the Crucible altogether.

Thats actually a very very good point, one that I don't see brought up enough.

If I was the catalyst I'd ask myself which choice is Shepard most likely to choose based on his/her prior knowledge? Yeah, I'd totally rig that choice up if I want to trick Shep.

I do enjoy asking control/systhesis lovers the tough questions and watching the deflections/head-cannon responses.

If that's arrogant, so be it.

A hat tip to the refuse option, classy.

I chose destroy because I had something real special to come back to.

Who cares either way? It's your game and your choice at the end of the day.

This. Haters gonna hate. In the end its your game and your choice. That said, destroyers definitely seem to be the most arrogant bunch. ITers are among the front-ranking destroy-fanatics.

I personally believe all the three (or four) endings are good/bad depending on your interpretation. There is no objectively best or worst ending. But hey, this is BSN. Hating on other's chosen ending is the "in" thing these days.

And this is where it goes wrong, when we start trashing eachother, can we keep it clean and civilised? i found that disturbing to be called ¨most arrogant bunch¨ I like the IT, it gives me some clarity to the ending, but im not trashing Control / Synthesis? i just can't make myself choose them. its like my point of religion, i admire and respect that people can believe in those things, but i can't make myself believe it.

Then my comment was not for you. Apologies if I crossed a line. Its just that most ITers I've met insist that controllers/synthesizers are stupid for not seeing "the signs", or "falling for it." Or these choises are somewhat religious.. (dunno how that conclusion was reached and how that is even relevant.)

The endings are pretty vague and subject to interpretation. If you see gloom and doom, that's your prerogative.

Can't agree more.

That's what ****ing happens in the literal interpretation...

You make an omnipotent being in your own image out of zombie slaves, and itprocedes to lay out an agenda in an epilogue for how it wants to use its newfound absolute power...

I know!  I found it exciting too!

I must be a bad person for I find that exciting too.. :D

I see alot of that when ever I look up ME Vids. Lots of insults from ITers if you pick anything but Destroy

I'm talking about FVT...

First of all, IT is basically the same as hating the ending.

Second, if IT *is* applicable, then those support threads are way wayyyyy longer than the Control or Synthesis ones.

So much for Destroy non-support.

The Face Value Theory, which Bioware has said is as valid as IT...
I have a few playthroughs dedicated to it...

I hear you, OP, I hear you. I had to adapt to being insulted every time I wanted to discuss my preferred ending choice, and some of those responsible kept their tone up even after being called out on it. And all that based no nothing but invention, against everything the EC epilogue shows us, driven by the dogmatic insistence on "what I don't like must be bad". I maintain this is a fundamentalist mindset, and it's every bit as annoying as in real life.

I know my preferences and the reasons for them, but I don't think I've ever said "X is stupid/indoctrinated/objectively bad, and you are stupid/indoctrinated for choosing it" about those options I don't like. In fact, the people who make such claims are objectively bad for this forum and its debating culture.

IT BTW isn't all about destroy...
There are versions where refuse is the win, and where synthesis is reaching the beam in London, and the Catalyst is playing a Kansas City Shuffle on you...

There's also a version where only Synthesis is a trap...

I'm not arrogant, I just didn't feel like having my first Shepard die. Which the Catalyst said he would, but was wrong.

You can dedicate a playthrough to Face Value? How is that different from just playing the game?

Because some people like to pick all the pros from their favorite ending, and all the cons from all the other endings and say theirs is the best and that your interpretation is wrong.

But those people are morons, and you should just play the game and enjoy what you enjoy based on your interpretations.

There is no universally best ending, because one's interpretation isn't more or less accurate than another's.

How about this analogy?:

To avoid getting nuked we either:

Control: Turn all the nuclear weapons over to one guy.
Synthesis: Irradiate everyone plentyfully so it doesn't matter if we get nuked and theres no point to it.
Destroy: Destroy all nuclear weapons, with the risk of them getting reinvented.

Refuse: Use em...

Also, Ieldra's "Oh woe is me, the fundamentalists are persecuting me!" stuff is rather ironic. Synthesis is a religious conversion, complete with a crucifixion swan dive into a beam of light and a galactic infusion of Shepard's divine essence. RELIGIOUS MUCH?
