The devs read these forums but NDA's - you know how it is...
The banners and challenges were clever. This gave an ageing game 'legs'.
I still think there is an 'energy' for one more MP dlc, even if it's just a few more hazard maps and a couple of Salarians.
I suspect there will be enough players for an extended period to fund the micro transactions required to keep the servers alive for a good while.
What BW seem to want now is for the 'exposure' to die down. OTS has been asked to retire. The focus will move, after the last SP dlc to DAIII
Multiplayer on DAIII seems to be a given doesn't it.
Turn around on a new Mass Effect property has been 2 1/4 years.
But with a new start and new hardware, this could easily be a 3 1/2 year gap.
BW were playing down the 2014/2015 rumours. It could be 2016.
That's nothing to be concerned about.
Good takes time.

ME3 releases in March 2012.
In 'game years' it's 21 years old.
New kid on the block.
12 months later in 'game years' it's 45 and its best dlc are behind it maybe with one more to come.
Spring 2014 and in game years it's 69 and well into retirement.
Maybe it will get the odd visitor...
With a cup of tea and a biscuit/cookie.

I always hate it when fun games die within a year of release. Being peer to peer doesn't help things, but there is a large community on this website alone and new blood coming from people buying the trilogy for the first time... I'm cautiously optimistic.

I would like to think there'll still be people playing once the free DLC ends.

That's something I hadn't considered. I'm feeling really down about this thing right now, but even I have to admit that I've been seeing more newcomers in the past weeks than ever before (except the month of release, of course).
Yeah, perhaps cautious optimism is the best option.

Does that also mean they won't bother patching it anymore if there comes up something bad?

Anyways hope to hear more from the staff regarding the last dlc. It was a great journey guys, playing since the demo was released, almost a year ago

Since i play on xbox i have to deal with the gold subscription, which expired on december, otherwise i would still be playin it. I will come back eventually, still missing a few drops, and since i spent a lot of time on this mp, i would like to unlock everything before bidding farewell.

Same.
Well, not exactly. I still have less than a month left, and I probably won't renew. I wonder how many people have been buying subscriptions just for Mass Effect, like I have. I hope it's enough for them to notice the loss a little bit, when we stop doing it.

We all knew this would eventually happen. If they kept working on ME3 we won't get another game lol. With all the experience they've gained from this MP experience I think the next game is going to be mind blowing. For something that was initially an afterthought this has been an amazing experience! I think the MP DLC will be out first btw
Mind-blowing games aren't profitable.
At least not in EA's mind.
Don't be so hasty. If Bioware could churn out a mind-blowing game on a severely rushed development schedule, EA'd be all for it.
As for patching, I wouldn't be surprised if we got one more right at DLC launch. If that patch breaks something, however, don't count on them fixing it with another patch.

What is this subscriptions stuff? Do you pay for specific games to access MP or for platform MP features?

To play online on xbox you have to pay a subscription fee.

On xbox you pay a gold subscription to play multiplayer in every game, which is a bit meh, that's why i don't do it, ME3 was an exception for me, i subscribed just for me3 mp

Today has been a very dark day on the MP forums. First the retirement of OTS, then balance changes become bi-weekly, and now this...
'Twas locked by Stan for not being MP related, even though it obviously was.

But I do agree with Unknown Mercenary. Surely they won't be pulling the plug on the servers anytime soon. I mean, the Trilogy Pack only just recently released, so we still have fresh blood coming in. Is it enough to replace the old blood being lost? Only BioWare has those numbers, but it hardly matters. Heck, Motorstorm's servers stayed on for 5 years before Evolution Studios shut down the servers, and half of that time it limped along with roughly an average of only 25-30 racers online at any given time near the end.
The point is that this MP will only die when one of two things happens: when not one more soul plays this game or when EA decides to pull the plug. We cannot control the latter, but we CAN control the former.
I don't know about the rest of you. Maybe you'll grow bored, maybe you'll answer the siren's call of other games full-time. I, myself, have played MP a bit less of late, but only because of the PS3 ME1 release causing me to play through the FULL campaign now.
But I know for certain that, by the Spirits, I will continue to play this MP. So, my fellow PS3ers, do not fear that the day will come where you will be forced to solo in order to play ME3 MP, for I will be here and we shall duo it together!
I am not going anywhere.
I WILL HOLD THE LINE.
Who's with me?

My ultimate worry would be them releasing a character I really wanted (for example, a Prothean), and then the playerbase dropping off steeply so that I’d never get a chance to play him as much as I’d like.

Yup, Citadel will be the last DLC (that or the MP DLC, whichever comes out first).
i was right about Citadel DLC.. because i made this three months ago:

Citadel DLC:
Summary:
"Citadel Has bombs planted by new enemies that lurks, waiting to destroy Shepard. can Shepard stop those enemies before they destroy Citadel and doom the galaxy to destruction.
Mass Effect 3: Citadel expands the events of Mass Effect 3, with more darker, gripping storytelling.
you must travel to citadel and shut down the bombs, discover who planted them."
That sounds like an absolutely terrible DLC. OMG DIFFUSE BOMBS WEN REAPERS ARE HERE. SO COMPELLING!
