Actually EA has spoken on why they use microtransactions in their games

MP is just a silly bit of fun, so I don't care if they do what they did in ME3 - in fact, if it can make itself self financing then it should draw less resources away from what matters.

Then again, I grew up in the days of video game arcades, where you could burn through a dollar in cheap gimmicks in less than five minutes.

i am willing to pay for DLC, but pay for let say PSP in ME3? really? i am insane in some point but i am not crazy.
Also bf3 as example is rather poor one.

Paying for additional ingame things with real money. DS3, for example, is selling weapon crafting components. League of Legends, Guild Wars 2, Team Fortress 2, and so on are examples of games that are based very, very heavily on them.fchopin wrote...
I have no idea what microtransactions is.
Fluff DLC like we got in DA:O, character outfits like in ME2/3, and relatively insignificant gear bundles I think are fine as long as it isn't advertised ingame beyond a ticker at the bottom of the title screen or something. I don't like the idea of microtransactions in a horror game, but I don't know enough of how impactful it is on the rest of the game to make a judgement.

It makes me nostalgic for a more innocent time in gaming, when i could put the game cartridge into my Atari 2600 without need for a microtransaction. If the format stays much like ME3 its not to intrusive and is optional if you want it.

Down with microtransactions

I don't want them either. This is a single-player console/ PC game, not a free-to-play MMO or a bloody Facebook game.

With news that states Dead Space 3 will feature microtransactions, I believe now would be the perfect time to discuss microtransactions in DA3. I do not want microtransactions in DA3.
How is it any different from all those DA2 and DA:O item pack DLC?
Personally, I never bought any of those, simply because I'm not interested in that kind of content. It never impacted my enjoyment of the game.

Not in the single player anyway, since that's what matters and is what I'm paying money for in the first place.

This is mostly how I look at it. If the microtransactions can support the MP mode as well as they seem to have with ME3 then the MP isn't much of a resource drain on the SP as it goes forward into DLC. Plus if the MP is fun and keeps people playing longer it perhaps translates into better SP DLC sales. It would be disappointing to see DA:I's DLC schedule cut short like DA2.

That's the only feature that could really push me out of the "wait and see" camp directly to "never going to play it" one.

If you don't like microtransactions, it is generally a good idea to not purchase them. They should not be required to enjoy or finish a game, but are available for those who want that sort of content. Seems like a simple enough deal.
They change the nature of the gaming experience for everyone.
If you want people to use microtransactions, then you have to manufacture occasions where a player could need them.

And we all know DA3 will feature them. Likely in the single player as well. And like federico said, the game play will be changed in such a way that people will at least be pushed towards microtransactions a bit, changing the gameplay experience for everyone, including the people who want nothing to do with those darn mictrotransactions.
