Thought I'd  try some options with the infiltrators, doing what should be a minor solo on bronze.

All went sorta ok until I wanted to 'cloak' around the map. Against reapers, the tactical cloak meant absolutely nothing.
Once Tactical Cloak is engaged, they could not only still see exactly where I was, but continued to shoot the sh-t out of the skinny infiltrator as if he wasn't using a cloak at all.

Cerberus troops will yell "ohnoz! he's gone! what will we do now?!".

Reapers....they just spit out the chewing tobacco and pump some more plasma in your guts.

Any ideas what's causing this?

'Aggro' mechanics and how they affect cloak are described here.

You do realise that enemies can still see you in cloak right? If you break LoS it makes it somewhat better.

If an enemy sees you cloak they will shoot in the direction/area which you cloaked at. It's best to cloak and immediately leave that area. Also the enemy, depending on how close you are, can "hear" your characters movements which may be causing them to still attack you.

Just stay further away and move on from the spot you cloaked.

Don't cloak where they can see you. If one sees you, they all see you and will not only home in on your location, they will also still "see" you....

While you are soloing enemies will "peak" behind your cloak every few seconds or so; revealing your location to them so they don't just wander around aimlessly until they bump into you.

If you can run past 2 marauders and not have them spot you when soloing as a volus you can call it a good day.

This.

It's why enemies moonwalk right towards your cloaked infiltrator while he's (de)activating a device.

If you think about it, if a geth hunter cloaks in front of you, you can still see it and even track it. But let it move out of your sight and it'll be hard to find again. Until the next stun lock that is.

I pretend my own cloak works in the same way (I'm sure it's not quite the same, but still). Quickly change position after cloaking and the enemy will struggle to find you.

In other words, Hit and RUN.

This is easy: What do you do if you see the Phantom cloak?
a) Forget about it
B) Spray the area
c) Cunningly anticipate her spot of hiding
d) Lol, Hunta Mode

The AI is not as good as a player, but they didn't make TC an invincibility power. Cyonan's thread linked here is pretty good. There is also an older one with dev comments about AI detection.

If the enemy can't find a target, or doesn't "think" there is a target at a specific spot(the spot where you cloaked) they will cheat roughly once per second to try to find a target until they do find one. Cheating means seeing the entire map, including cloaked players.

Melee targets have a tendency to do this much more often than ranged targets do, which Reapers have to have a lot of melee units. The melee units will just run to where you cloaked and realize you aren't there, then cheat if there are no other players. Ranged enemies will continue to shoot that area for a bit before they move up to find you aren't there now.

Yeah. Keep moving. Don't just cloak and stay in one spot. It doesn't work that way.

You can run through crowds while cloaked, if you cloaked out of their sight to begin with. But don't dillydally while in their midst or they WILL target you.
