Lol.  That happened to my Havoc too.   I happened to my Volus Engineer five times now and my Volus Adept (aka. "Biotic God" lol) once and I still have no idea why it keeps happening. 

I think the I read that the glitch happens when you get that character in a pack, it gives too much ability points fo the rank up.

I love my Human Female Engineer, my Turian Sentinel (as a sniper) and my Asari Vanguard (either power-based or shotgun-based, although usually I go shotgun-based) equally. They are definitely my personal favorite "podium" top three characters overall. I'm also starting to really like the Drell Adept lately (without grenades, only using Pull + Reave and Arc Pistol).

Krogan Sentinel is the best class in the game. Past that I'd say the Krogan Soldier, Quarian Marksman, Turian Soldier, Drell Vanguard, Asari Vanguard, Quarian Male Engineer, and Drell Infiltrator.
