Game sounds are too important, I also turn off the in-game music.

It's easy enough to find the volume balance so that the music is audible in the background but I can still pinpoint a phantom nearby just by her chirping.

Surround sound also helps.

cant get you links, but for me, borderlands 2 battle music in dam, and halo rach oni sword base background music for the first portion of it (if you have a problem go jump off a bridge cause i dont judge your music preferance)

There's in-game music? I've never actually heard any music while playing, I've only heard the music on the menus.
*must check option settings*

Is it the Music volume one?
It's on 100% here. Must be becaus I'm too busy killing enemies
