I've been thinking about this since DA3 was announced. I always play as a mage and I really like the idea of three of the most important people in Thedas not only being mages, but also from the same family. It makes the story more impactful for my gameplay experience.

No, the new PC cannot be an Amell.

I only have one response to this:

Out of curiosity, what's the link between a Warden Amell and Hawke? Are they cousins or something?

Yes, Leandra is (was) an Amell.

To be exact, second cousins;  Amell Warden's mother, Revka, is Leandra's first cousin.

Isn't this an invitation to lock the thread? Why is it still... unlocked?

I would point to this thread: http://social.biowar.../index/14604410
Started by a Bioware employee specifically announcing something to hear feedback. People may still have thoughts/ideas/points of discussion regarding the Amells and their, well, EXclusion now I suppose. Just because a question has been answered doesn't mean a thread has to be locked.

Now that this is settled, we can now focus on who we really want, the family of Ser Jory.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!

DA3 is about how Jory's widow becomes the new ruler of Thedas, and along with her kid, sentences every Grey Warden to death. You know, like some sort of big man-hunt, trial thingy.

Guess the Tabris family needs their time in the spotlight now.

Just felt like posting Adaia there... Well, a good looking fan version of her, not that ugly woman in Leliana's song that shares her name.

Lovely Adaia!    DeviantArt's *wanderer1812 does a beautiful job with her!

Interesting how you said the pc "CANNOT" be as opposed to "will not" be

ah, well....alrighty then. i think that's abt as much info we've gotten to date on the PC--besides being human.

sooo...why "can't" they be an Amell? Is there something story wise that would make it so the PC "cannot" be an Amell?

hmmm......;)

Well, the first game was named "Origins", and the second game had a relative to one of the origins. Perhaps "origins" refers to a shared lineage with the consequent heroes?

That would mean the Inquisitor has links to the Couslands. It would also mean two games with dwarwen protag's, so I guess it was just a theory. Posted Image

I think you lot are reading waaaay too much into Gaider's statement - but I have to ask.  Why would it mean that the Inquisitor is a Cousland/related to them?  There is nothing in the statement of 'cannot be an Amell' that says "is a Cousland."

She is particularly bitter over how I took all of his armor/gear before the Joining Ritual to make a few measly coins adding further shame to his death since he was discovered in only his small clothes.

it would be kinda cool as link between games, But if the pc is related, or can be the whole "dragon age is about the world" arguement would be proven to be nothing but hogwash.

While it's a nice thought, in reality the important people are rarely from the same family, except in the cases of royal families.

That's funny - because his gear ends up in your pack even if you don't strip him down (unless you played Origins version 1.00).

I think Duncan tells you off camera, "Wardens waste nothing.  Their gear is there.  Take it.  At the very least you can use it to buy provisions when this whole battle goes . . . errrr . . . to buy provisions."

FDR was blood relatives with 5 or 6 other presidents.

George W. Bush (president) was son of George H.W. Bush (president) who was the son of Prescott Bush (Senator and Wall Street Banker with heavy involvement in military industrial).

John F. Kennedy . . .

The Rothschilds . . .

The majority of big bankers, CEOs, athletes.

I do not care for the idea of another Amel as the protagonist, and even said it wasn't going to happen in my first post.  But . . .

Important people are rarely NOT from the same family.

Indeed. I'm honestly going to be a little mad if the PC is ANOTHER Fereldan...

I'm guessing the pc 'cannot' be an Amell because they've already recorded lines with the PC's name in them and therefore can't change it.

Am I right?

I can do with one from the Free March too (on the condition that the protagonist in da is Orlesian)

But mostly I want an Orleasian too, or someone just no Fereldan.

Maybe the protagonist can't be an Amell because Charade will be a LI.

(No, not a serious completely serious theory. I like her, though.)
