Or more simply because there aren't any more. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in-game that Leandra and Gamlen are the last of the Amell's (I think Hawke get's lumped in too but Hawke's a Hawke not an Amell). Gamlen had one child, Charade, who is an established character and therefore can't be a PC.

In terms of succession, who can inherit the estate and such, you may be right as I am fairly certain mages are barred from such things (outside of Tevinter anyway.) However, Leandra mentions that all of Revka's children (plural) were taken by the circle. I don't recall anywhere where it is specified just exactly how many children Revka had. This leaves open the possibility of an unknown number of addtional Amell mages of undetermined age, sex, and disposition.

Yes but those Amells are still established as Mages. I'm guessing Bioware isn't going to make an exclusive/mandatory background for either class, so any PC, regardless of background, will have to be able to be a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage. That is of course assuming these backgrounds will be non-playable and really just the odd reference and maybe a blurb in the codex where it doesn't make sense to work that out for 1 of 3 possible characters. Kind of like Shepard's background.

That would be a departure from how they handled backgrounds in DA:O. In DA:O, your surname was determined by your race/background. The backgrounds you were able to choose were based on your race/class combination. I think if they were to... detach backgrounds from surnames, they would opt to open up surnames entirely and allow the player to enter their own. That would really beef up the head canon and we would (technically, depending on how you look at it) be able to have an Amell PC. Simply by using the surname.

No, the new PC cannot be an Amell.

Guess the Tabris family needs their time in the spotlight now.

Just felt like posting Adaia there... Well, a good looking fan version of her, not that ugly woman in Leliana's song that shares her name.

Why everyone should be good-looking in Dragon Age? At least none of the bad guys I mean.

Obviously you shouldn't read too much into this. It might mean nothing. But it hints that there is either a reason why an Amell couldn't have been considered or there are multiple choices for main PC's and none of them are Amell's.

Bioware confirmed multiple backgrounds.

...along with multiple characters?

i must confess, i had not considered this. i just automatically thought it would be diff characters. altho, they'd all be human. i still thought they would be different.

but the idea that it's one char w/varying backgrounds seems more probable.

I'm glad the PC won't be another Amell. It would make me feel weird if every hero except my Warden was from that family :-/

Why? Because when the story and characters in the game itself call a character beautiful, I expect them to be beautiful.

Now, which is beautiful, this:

Or the girl I posted? Which fits the descriptions of how characters describe her in the origin? We both know the answer.

I like this one, she has dark skin, it pleases me to know that both parents aren't pale like the snow. The one you posted...could do with some dark skin.

That is subjective. But that makeup color on that skin color is awful. The face itself doesn't exactly scream "attractive" either. The skin color is fine, I've made some dark skinned Wardens. But her face and skin complexion (not color), and that makeup color choice, does not make a good looking person.

Now that this is settled, we can now focus on who we really want, the family of Ser Jory.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
DA3 is about how Jory's widow becomes the new ruler of Thedas, and along with her kid, sentences every Grey Warden to death. You know, like some sort of big man-hunt, trial thingy.

She is particularly bitter over how I took all of his armor/gear before the Joining Ritual to make a few measly coins adding further shame to his death since he was discovered in only his small clothes.

Before a Warden is put to death via public execution, they are stripped of all of their gear and possessions, and the proceeds from it are given to charity.*

Then, they are given heavy doses of a cocktail containing anabolic steroids, acepromazine and prozac, so that way the male Wardens don't fill out their small clothes as much, while the female Wardens fill them out a bit more than they should.

*100% of all proceeds from the sale of Warden's gear and possessions goes to the "Widows by Wardens at Ostagar Fund" registered non-profit tax-free charity.
