In this link, a creepy looking guy will explain the thought process behind the current mage headwear in DA. It all makes sense now.
Sloth, once again, you amaze us with your wit...Sometimes you make my day.
But, back on topic, the mage hats remind me of fez hats, (like the Shriners wear in parades) and made me get a no- helmet mod.

20 lashes for the guy who approved the designs.

At least, I'm pretty sure those darkspawn mages wear something similar. Or am I thinking of something totally different? I don't know...I can't get on the game atm to make sure.

I admit I would have preferred something different myself, but once you unlock Arcane Warrior you can leave those caps behind you and all the pain disappears :innocent:

I like that they are different, but the stitching looks like teeth, which makes me think a slug is eating my guy. Maybe a simple hood would be nice or something? Robes and such just fit since they need the mobility to perform spells.
Zoom in close and you will see the mages hat has a snake-skin pattern. I think those ARE supposed to be teeth, or fangs.
Me, I want a Stetson a long coat ... and a .44 ...
Harry Dresden comes to Ferelden, oh yeah.

I used to be a World of Warcraft junkie. That was till the the game became bloated and silly and frustrating.
I had wanted to play DA since I first saw the televised ads on D-TV. After purchasing it I fell in love with the storyline, graphics and the 3rd person play much like Max Payne.
I only hope Bioware and the EA Games do not follow Blizzard in bloating the game with non-sensicle extras and useless items as WoW had done. WoW started as a pretty large game at 4Gb initially, when i quit it was 16Gb ( two expansions and many, many patches). Now they have mowhawk grenades... how stupid is that. i'm all for fun, but thats really pointless from the games starting foundation.
I am only suggesting that patches be kept to game tweaks and bug fixes. And that Bioware has the sense to stop adding content/extras that will require the state of Texas in disk space and turn the rpg into a silly pointless game.
Please, if yod would, stop and (re)introduce a new game with all the previous bug fixes, patches and extra content up to date. Expansions and multiple patches are a pain to fix and upkeep when a game is very large and corrupts as was WoW had been and done.
Also, not all people have access to fast ISP's. Since dial-up is still widely available and hasn't been phased out, maintain a Dial-up friendly server for patching and online game play.
Other than those two concerns, DAO is very good and the best since Baulders Gate.

Only the libertarian's cowl was good enough to have me succumb to putting in on Wynne, whom I think has looked ridiculous ever since. This is fantasy, you can't go Human/Dwarf/Elf->Warrior/Rogue/Mage and then decide that the area where a break from generic fantasy is absolutely necessary is in the headgear mages wear, substituting what looks like pointed shawls over the head in place of proper wizard hats.
I found the mage armor similarly annoying at the beginning, always preferring to be in elegant robes but I admit that the more combat-friendly models of mage armor you guys put in to the game actually do look quite good (unlike the chapeaus

This is more a couple suggestions, kudos and complaints than a basic comment.

Hey!
What have you got against Texas?
I'm on dial-up and, so far, the DLC and patching have gone better than usual.

I think they took inspiration from the design of a few kind of far-eastern priestly headwear. I've seen something similar in Japan and in India.

Oh, that could be it thank you.

My google-fu is a bit rusty but here are some links to interesting pictures or articles for that time periods type of dress. Also....if you watch the Tudors on Showtime....check out the hats that the different classes and professions wear. Skull caps, cowls, hoods, even the goofy hats of the "lawyers" of the time.
Are the mage hats in DA goofy? Yeah, I have a hard time taking my mages seriously when they look like they have a peacock or phesant strapped to their heads, but I think they fit the atmosphere of the game.

More googling for various fashions throughout the centuries brought more interesting images and sites.

Other than most Texans are easily provoked.
Or Texas isn't the biggest state as claimed by most. Compared to Alaska (which I spent 40+ yrs in), its kinda like Rhode Island is to New York.
Just messing with you cowboy, it's all good. And if need be, I'd be the first to jump to defend Texas, or any state in the US since we are all Americans above all else.
