I'd also like to point out that even though I find PC better, I still kind of love my PS3. It makes a great bluray player and I still play some games on it.

AC releases late on PS3 and I have the whole series on it so I'll always get new releases for PS3. I also play the RE series on it as well as Soul Calibur/Tekken and FF 7/8.

The PS3 may have been a good substitute for a proper BR player in its infancy but its a software based BR player and proper BR players have been much improved and also now have bargain basement prices.

IMHO there is no longer any justification for buying a PS3 because "it can also play Blu-Rays" (using software).

Whatever had enough frustration. I'm out. This is why console war threads are never a good idea.

This needs to be locked

This is a console war thread? :huh:

People are just discussing the various merits, pros/cons of the different platforms. Hardly a war.

I have to agree with born2beagator, 5grand sounds like an overkill alright, I paid an equivalent of 800$, maybe 750$ for my rig, at it plays all the latest games on high just fine, managed to run 60 fps on Crysis 2 with HD tex pack on ultra, so I'm fine with what I got.

EDIT: And I bought it 2 years ago.

Crysis 2 is hardly a test. The graphics in it were scaled down in a huge way to accomodate consoles.

Crysis 1 is a better way to test, ironically. ;)

But I do agree 5000 dollars for a PC is insane, nobody should pay that much. But then, people who buy prebuilts will always pay 2 - 3 x as much as they should.

well, i had to replace the motherboard, and i upgraded the cpu, bought two more hard drives, and replaced the chassis twice. i bought a new touchscreen for windows 8 (still havnt bought it :? though) and got several periphials, i need to invest 235 for a new headset

Still should not cost anywhere near 5000 dollars. Where the heck did you get parts from? A loan shark?

Are you suggesting the profit margin for prebuilts is 200-300%?

Personally. I think the PC industry has become too cut throat to support your suggested margins. IMHO It would be financial suicide to charge what you suggest.

You don't know what you're missing, it doesn't take long to get used to those things. Admittedly though, Origin does suck something serious.

Pretty much. I was surprised to notice i couldn't get an english version of an Origin-bought game a while ago. You can get the store in whatever language you prefer, but you can't get the game in that language. I felt robbed about this game, and relieved that ME3 didn't force me into playing into my mother tongue. It would've killed the campaign for me.

The price of a rig has been mentioned as an argument, but usually the price of the games themselves is lower on pc, and drops much more quickly in the months following the release.
Another argument for pc mp would be the astounding amount of niche games available at a cheap price. You can find pretty much any genre on pc, except japanese rpgs when i think of it.

only the best my friend, and my i say, this was originally a computer i bought from craigslist for 130$, i kept adding and taking away till no parts are from the originalany more, admittedly i spend much on software more than hardware though

(i also went cheap on my current chassis, dont tell anyone tho)

ok here goes

ME3 is by far the worce ever ported game on the PS3. BO was but ME is way passed it.

Console hardware is not the issue here , proof is batman arkam city 60 fps full hd and keeps the 60fps running on 3D , gran turismo and infinity ward COD s.

So why is ME3 so poor on the PS3 ?

Simple , poor coding which can be result of 2 things , incompetent company that did the porting or just Bioware simply being cheap. PS3 coding is expensive.

Well, I live in Hawaii, so shipping is a b*tch.  Only Amazon offers free shipping, and they usually don't have the best prices on hardware.

Plus I wanted to be a little conservative, since I wasn't sure of the current prices, haven't been totally keeping up recently

But I got mine back in 2009 for 150, and it still works perfectly for games that aren't super graphics intensive at 1920x1200.

Try newegg.com. They have free ship on many items. They also have great deals sign up for their e-mail specials.

On topic that would depend on the pc in question and OS.

Let's use a hypothetical here. What happens with graphics cards is that the companies try to make a huge profit on their latest series. When a new series comes out (happens every few months) those cards become the new "top line" cards and the cards from the series before get marked down in price by a long way.

So in this hypothetical situation, you can either buy a top of the line card from the current series and pay ~1000 dollars (again hypothetical, not exact figures) or you can look at the previous series, realise the top of the line card from THAT series is 80% as good as the current top of the line card, but 1/5 the price, and buy that one.

Buy smart. Buying "only the best" when it comes to PC is silly. Especially seeing as graphics card requirements for games have not increased in any significant manner since 2007. In fact in a lot of ways they have decreased (optimisation has gotten better and companies have stopped making larger and larger res textures etc. because PS3 and Xbox360 can't handle them).

Everything that says free shipping, except for Amazon, is only free to the continental US, not HI or AK.  This includes Newegg and Tiger Direct.
