Yes, yes I have.
Oghren (provides the facial hair)
Shale (provides glow in the dark crystals)
Zevran (provides lockpicking)
These chosen three shall help my mage (male) achieve his goals and be his wingmen in many a tavern.

-Morrigan
-Leliana
-Sten
They're tenative plans though. I won't be sure until I've had a chance to actually speak to all of them.

How important is choosing the right party? What if I want to focus solely on me and what I'm doing? I know I can leave the other members AI controlled but can I just not have a party or maybe just the dog or what? If I have a party and want them to control themselves who would be best?

A fighter, a Thief and a Healer + My character (Mage)
I'm annoyed that i have to have a thief in the party at all times so as to open locked chests and disarm traps, those options should be available via spells.

City elf rogue bard
Alistair
Leliana
Morrigan
Depends really on the personalities, if any of them just annoy the hell out of me I'll probably drop them. Might take the stone prisoner..

I always try to play a persuasive sort of character, so I'm trying to build a party around that idea. When trying to get people to see things your way, there are a variety of different options. The first is intimidation, for that I'll probably go with Shale or Dog. The second is cunning and persuasion, for that, I'll be taking Leilana (she'll also serve as my primary love interest. The final way is seduction, and who better for that (and for a secondary love interest) than Morrigan?
My character will be a Bard focused on persuasion and lockpicking.

First playthrough
Me (Male Elf Rogue, Dalish origin) - DPS (dual weapon)
Morrigan - Blaster and Healer + Romance
Shale - Tank (if his class provides tanking talents)
Sten or Oghren - Tank and wearer of cool gear (since it looks like Shale does not use normal items)
Maybe Alistair in the fourth slot since there appears to be banter between him and Morrigan, though I'm hoping for a human-free party.
Second playthrough
Me (Male Human Warrior, Noble origin) - Tank
Wynne - Blaster and Healer
Leliana - DPS (archery) + Romance
Rabbit - DPS

I'm thinking
Me warrior (not sure if I'll sword and board or 2h)
Stine/Alastar Depending on what path I take
Wyann for the heals.
Liliana for some ranged damage and lock picking.
A bit Melee heavy but that fits my style, and I'm really bad about Friendly fire so....

My first playthrough will be:
Me: Dalish elf rogue
Dog: Because he's cute and mighty! ;P
Zevran: For eyecandy and associated romance
Morrigan: Because she's power hungry (like my character) and I hope they can be evil friends. ^__^

Tricky thing to ask ......
As an old timer Roleplayer my group would consiste of 1 tank, 1 caster/healer, 1 rogue and 1 ranged fighter. However after seeing the videos of the NPCs able to join your party im afraid I have to say i might do something different, mainly for character development and socialization with the NPCs pourposes.
So far with my human noble warrior i will most probably use:
- Me (tank)
- Wynne (healer)
- Leliana (ranged and rogue)
- Dog (cause I like him)
Mix and match that with probably the dwarf and Alistair and I think I have my group set. So far 2 of the least interesting character Ive seen is Sten and I dont think Ill have much of a pourpose for Zevran in my party.

Not much different than any of my tabletop gaming days...........depends on the character I am running. But in any event the standard will be........
2 fighters (myself/ohgren/dog/sten/alistair)
1mage (myself/wynne/morrigan)
1 rogue (myself/lilliana/zeveran)
Then I will make adjustments based on my characters involvement and goals ie. Haggitha would definitely take more unscrupulous characters so I don't see Wynne ever in her group and may switch out a fighter for a second rogue............so as i stated its entirely up to the character being played and what the game has to offer.

First - Zemariel (City Elf Rogue): Zevran, Morrigan and Oghren.
Second - As-Yet-Nameless (Human Noble Warrior): Alistair, Wynne, and Leliana.
That's what I'm thinking right now. It could certainly change once I actually get to playing the game.

I think I'll have to mix and match them until I find the right combo. I've made a few party lineups and I never feel happy with leaving people out. Also, I'm undecided on playing a rogue or a mage first, which changes things. Does it really matter much? We can swap people in and out like ME anyways right?

Me (Azarias) - Dalish Elf Rogue - Duelist-Assassin (trying to work as an offtank if needed)
Alistair - Main tank - Templar
Leliana - Bard-Archer - live interest?
Morrigan - Shapeshifter (mage/healer)
Strong combo class wise but also personality wise - lots of banter between the three companions. With you could also get a relationship possibility between Alistair and Morrigan (then we could double date
