I'll try to use a versatile party, at least give it a try. I'm gonna start with a rogue so I'll probably take a warrior/golem for melee and then a mage/archer and a healer.

My dwarf rogue, Shrike 'ButcherBird' Brosca will be embarking with the party of endless snark; consisting of Alistair, Morrigan, and Oghren.

I honestly don't know, the companions I have looked at all seem interesting in theor own way. But somehow I keep comming back to Morrigan, and I seem to remember somewhere about her being voiced by Claudia Black. (Could someone confirm if that is true or not please). Which if it is true will certainly be a plus. Others that seem interesting is Allistair and his rather witty comments. But also Shale and Sten seem interesting. Sadly I haven't read much about the rest. So it seems for the moment I have to choose at least some off my companions at random when I first play the game :P

As a noble warrior and acting as the sword and board tank I would like to take Shale/Sten/Oghren for melee damage, Morrigan for magic damage and Wynne for healing. I'll be swapping the dog in every now and then, and mixing up Morrigan with Leilana and Zevran at times. If I could have Morrigan with some healing magic that would ideal as her character drips personality.

I'm going with Morrigan, Alistair and Shale.

I might switch out Shale for Zevran though.

I'll be going with Alistair, me as a damage-dealing warrior, Leliana and Wynne.
I hate Morrigan's personality and evilness.<_<

My first play-through I'm going with a big ol' 2handed warrior. So I have to balance the party around him.

Morrigan is the important first, she is the artillery, the Mage of the party. Someone has to be able to caste spells and brew potions, plus her and my PC may just develop a thing for one another.

Next I need a rouge, I havn't decided between Zevran and Leilana, but whoever it is, it will be their duty to scout ahead, open locked doors, set traps, and protect Morrigan. I'm leaning towards Leilana because she seems to fit the role of party scout better then Zevran, plus you can trust a human.

Finally my last slot will probably be for Alistair, though I'm also considering Sten, Shale, and Dog. I'm leaning toward Alistair for the dialogue options, but really any character that can stand shoulder to shoulder with my warrior as they wade into the thick of combat will do.

So I guess until further notice, or until I get the game and a particular character that is not on the short list makes a good impression, I'd say my party is going to be:

PC - Noble Warrior

Morrigan - Mage

Leilana - Scout

Alistair - Warrior

For my commoner dwarf rogue, which I intend to be my first play-through. I am leaning towards:

Sten

Morrigan

Leliana

The group may be a little reliant on Sten as tank, but from what's been released about the characters (I'm not familiar with the lore absent what's presented in the character backgrounds), this seems like a group of folks with attitude,

My first playthrough is going to consist of a noble warrior (PC), Alistair for a second warrior, Morrigan for some firepower, and Leilana for setting traps, unlocking doors and scouting ahead. I'll probably set her up with the archery skills.

I'm just concerned about healing with that group.

Obviously this is all tentative as I'm sure there are gonna be some other characters that haven't been announced that are going to be available.

and i know that dog will be much weaker than shale/sten/allistair:(...but i love dogs sooo much:D...i think i will just have to play game like 20 times to play all origins and all teams:D

Actually, when I went to Gencon to see DA:O there, one of the devs said that the dog is pretty much as good as any warrior, instead of being a gimicky "Hey I have a dog!" kind of a character.

That said, I'm pretty torn on my first play through. I'm playing a female city elf warrior/champion that duel wields and bringing along Alistair, Wynne and maybe Dog. I say maybe because including myself, that's a pretty melee heavy group. My second playthrough will be with a male noble rogue/assasin with Morrigan, Alistair/Sten and maybe Lelianna/Oghren.

Still undecided as it is. In fact, chances are high that I'll end up playing with whatever party mix I find offers the most hilarious banter...

I've only just about decided who I'm playing as, let alone who I'm playing with.

My PC will probably be a Human Rogue and I'll probably have the dog and Morrigan but really don't know who else.

Quick question, when do we pick up these party members? I'm assuming we don't get them all early on. I'm guessing we play alone for a while before picking up the first party member and then a bit longer before the next etc. And I read that we have the option, if we choose, to go it alone or with less than 4 party members.

believe party members will be picked up in the different areas you can go to.  Wynne, for example, would be at the Circle Tower, and Morrigan is in the Korcari Wilds.  You actually get one (possibly two) companions during or right after the 'first big battle', then you'd find others.  IIRC there is one companion you have to take along, but you can dump him/her in the camp, you don't need to take him/her with you in the party.

I guess we will get Alistair quite early along with Morrgian since the great battle take place near the Korcari Wild if I'm not mistaken

Having read most of The Stolen Throne (Upto Ch 15) my views about my party have changed completely. I now can see the importance of having the right people by your side. Considering how vitally important Loghain and Rowan we're to Maric makes me want to build that sort of party with that sort of bond (not forgetting Willhelm of course with his healing powers!).

Before reading the book I was very much wanting to concentrate solely on my own character and not worry too much about the others but now I'm thinking about it in a whole different way!

I SOOOO agree with you.  I keep changing who I want on my team, haha.  I'm going to have to change every 5 minutes in game.

Been leaning towards My PC (of course) as Templar/Champion 1h + Shield along with Alistair or Sten, Morrigan and Shale

It's subject to change though as I'm sure we won't get every character right off the bat, if I gain a fondness for any character I'm sure they'll stay in my party.

2h offensive Noble Human warrior as me.

Al, Lel and Wynn in first run though. Very defensive in nature.

2nd run through with an evil mage will have me, Sten, Morrigan and Zev. A very offensive team.
