I might switch out Shale for Zevran though.

I hate Morrigan's personality and evilness.<_<

Morrigan is the important first, she is the artillery, the Mage of the party. Someone has to be able to caste spells and brew potions, plus her and my PC may just develop a thing for one another.
Next I need a rouge, I havn't decided between Zevran and Leilana, but whoever it is, it will be their duty to scout ahead, open locked doors, set traps, and protect Morrigan. I'm leaning towards Leilana because she seems to fit the role of party scout better then Zevran, plus you can trust a human.
Finally my last slot will probably be for Alistair, though I'm also considering Sten, Shale, and Dog. I'm leaning toward Alistair for the dialogue options, but really any character that can stand shoulder to shoulder with my warrior as they wade into the thick of combat will do.
So I guess until further notice, or until I get the game and a particular character that is not on the short list makes a good impression, I'd say my party is going to be:
PC - Noble Warrior
Morrigan - Mage
Leilana - Scout
Alistair - Warrior

Sten
Morrigan
Leliana
The group may be a little reliant on Sten as tank, but from what's been released about the characters (I'm not familiar with the lore absent what's presented in the character backgrounds), this seems like a group of folks with attitude,

I'm just concerned about healing with that group.
Obviously this is all tentative as I'm sure there are gonna be some other characters that haven't been announced that are going to be available.

Actually, when I went to Gencon to see DA:O there, one of the devs said that the dog is pretty much as good as any warrior, instead of being a gimicky "Hey I have a dog!" kind of a character.frano1 wrote...
and i know that dog will be much weaker than shale/sten/allistair:(...but i love dogs sooo much:D...i think i will just have to play game like 20 times to play all origins and all teams:D
That said, I'm pretty torn on my first play through. I'm playing a female city elf warrior/champion that duel wields and bringing along Alistair, Wynne and maybe Dog. I say maybe because including myself, that's a pretty melee heavy group. My second playthrough will be with a male noble rogue/assasin with Morrigan, Alistair/Sten and maybe Lelianna/Oghren.

My PC will probably be a Human Rogue and I'll probably have the dog and Morrigan but really don't know who else.
Quick question, when do we pick up these party members? I'm assuming we don't get them all early on. I'm guessing we play alone for a while before picking up the first party member and then a bit longer before the next etc. And I read that we have the option, if we choose, to go it alone or with less than 4 party members.

I believe party members will be picked up in the different areas you can go to. Wynne, for example, would be at the Circle Tower, and Morrigan is in the Korcari Wilds. You actually get one (possibly two) companions during or right after the 'first big battle', then you'd find others. IIRC there is one companion you have to take along, but you can dump him/her in the camp, you don't need to take him/her with you in the party.Fodder007 wrote...

Before reading the book I was very much wanting to concentrate solely on my own character and not worry too much about the others but now I'm thinking about it in a whole different way!

In my first playthrough I am palnning on taking along Alistair, Zevran and Morrigan/Oghren/Dog (can't make up my mind, they are all so awesome).
I SOOOO agree with you. I keep changing who I want on my team, haha. I'm going to have to change every 5 minutes in game.

It's subject to change though as I'm sure we won't get every character right off the bat, if I gain a fondness for any character I'm sure they'll stay in my party.

Al, Lel and Wynn in first run though. Very defensive in nature.
2nd run through with an evil mage will have me, Sten, Morrigan and Zev. A very offensive team.
