I am not completely sure whom to pick just yet It will depend heavily on the motivations of the NPCs and how they get along with my city elf rogue PC.
But I guess most of the time I will have Alistair and Morrigan in the party, maybe Wynne, Oghren, Zevran and Dog being constantly switched for the fourth slot.
Picked out a team yet?

My first character will be a mage focusing on offensive spells, so Wynne will be the healer. Alistair will tank while Leilana does the stabbing and archery. This might change, depending on if I like the characters.

PC: Dalish Elf Rogue Archer
I plan on romancing Morrigan, so she'll be with me most of the time (if not all of the time). I assume I'll be swapping her out for Wynne occasionally (depending on the importance of healing), but Morrigan will supply my party's magic for the majority of the time.
That leaves two more spots, and I'd like to fill them both out with tanks. I'm thinking that Sten is going to be a permanent fixture on my front line, but I can only speculate at this point. I'm leaning towards Alistair for my second front liner for two reasons: 1) his interactions with Morrigan seem hilarious and numerous, and 2) both he and Morrigan seem to play a large role in the game as a whole.
I can definitely see Oghren and Shale being substituted for Sten and Alistair every now and then. It's likely that I'll be mixing and matching these four throughout the game, depending on who I think will fit the story for each area.
It seems unlikely that I'll be using Zevran or Leliana at all. They're both rogues, and I don't want to have a dual-rogue party (at least on my first play-through). I would like to see the interactions between my Dalish PC and Zevran, though. I'll try him out for a while to see how they interact.
Dog gets the short end of the stick, it would seem.

I'm thinking:
Me, Dalish Elf Rogue, Bow/Ranged.
Wynne (magix!)
Sten (melee, obviously)
Zevran (hopefully he's melee)

I'm probably going to end up being a mage for the first run through so all the magical/healing backup will be with me. Sten will tag along for smashing things, and Alistair can come for a love interest, lulz and more brute force. Then Dog. Because he is Dog. And I love Dog. So there.

I haven't decided 100% but I'm starting off with a Dalish Warrior, so I'll probably go with Morrigan, and Alistair/Sten depending on how that works out for off-tank, and Zevran/Leiliana for roguish goodness. -- which really means I guess I'm going to just switch it up.
I think a lot of it will depend on how they sound running around. If someone's got really annoying battle sounds they might end up benched.

I used to think Morrigan, Leliana, and Wynne. Now Im thinking maybe Shale instead of Wynne. Of course its all subject to how I actually like the characters when I meet them in the game, as it should be

I'll be playing human noble warrior, and I will most likely use Sten, Zevran, and maybe that stone golem.
I plan on having the women stay in camp and have food ready when the men get back from a long day. Best idea yet!

Probaby going human Mage since I can at least make them look semi-manly in a dress
Leliana well because who doesnt want a crazy hot babe in your party...you never know what they are going to do (wink wink nod nod). and I think a bard will be very useful in game.
and Alistair and Oghren

Myself as a city elf rogue, Alistair, Morrigan or Wynne (depends on the importantance of a dedicated healer) and Leliana. Should provide enough snark/interesting banter to keep me amused.

For the first playthrough,
my elf mage (avatar), (Damage dealing + partial healing when necessary)
Alistair (tanking & comments & interesting character)
Shale (smashing + backup tanking & interesting character)
Leliana/Zevran for lockpicking, backup and romance (only one of those has a positive romance bonus though, but the other may have interesting character.. Leliana for me has as much character depth as a cold fish)
Second or third playthrough [AKA Sacred Ashes party] -
Human warrior (tanking, looking good)
Morrigan (damage, healing, perhaps romance)
Sten (for damage)
Leliana (for locks, archery and camp-rape scenes..
Third or second playthrough:
dalish elf rogue (lockpicking & dual weapons)
Wynne/Morrigan (probably wynne, for the healing magics and occasional offense)
Sten (damage & character background)
Dog/Oghren (not sure which one.. Both are furry & fluffy & both are not particularly interesting [I'd take Oghren if it wasn't for that ridiculous red beard of his].. Might substitute for Shale/Alistair for tanking if I really like them)

Alistair

Morrigan/Wynne (haven't decided yet)
I'll probably have Dog in my party at some point though, likely in the beginning, before I find the others.

I can't decide - and I blame Bioware and their talented writers for my indecision.
Every time I think I have my 3 party members locked in, I read something awesome about another party member which makes me question my decision. I can't count the number of times I've redrafted my party after a 'oh, I totally have to have them in my party' moment.
It was bad enough that they made the 6 origins stories so deliciously intriguing, necessitating at least 6 playthroughs. Add in all the possible party combinations and that figure increases exponentially.
So no - I haven't picked out a team yet - and it's all Bioware's fault
