Sihmm, that was a great analysis and a very important point.

And your score wasn't bad, OP. I think anything that's more than half of the top score is acceptable for a bottom score, especially considering you only died three times. Now, if you were using a level-20 infiltrator with consumables/equipment and got that score, and suddenly you decided to use your level-12 vanguard for the next game, I'd probably get a little worried and message you asking if you think you're ready to use that kit. But even then, if the rest of the team was good enough, I'd be willing to even carry you and help you level up.

To answer the two questions:

1) From the title, yes I would play with any of those players again.
2) From the OP, I have no idea if he pulled his weight.

if the game went smoothly I would. Score doesnt always tell the whole story.

Exactly.  For example, a good setup on Giant (Hazard, or Vanilla) is to set up in the control rooms, and lay down fire on the yards underneath.  Usually 3 players take the upper room, and 1 watches the lower approach.  Depending on the spawn locations, and the kill rates of the upper 3, the player watching the lower approach might go a few waves get hardly any kills at all.  However, he is still pulling his weight by keeping the ledge of the lower yard's, and control room's, spawn points under control, and will prevent the enemy from flanking his teammates.  This is good team play on this map.

Not knowing the specifics of the match, one could just as easily 'interpret' such scores as a case of scorewhoring by the first 2-3 players, while number four is running objectives.  The devil's in the details.

If your basing it on score alone simply play the paladin and snap freeze constantly. If you have pugs who are detonating you will top, come 2nd or atleast have a respectable score.
Does that mean he is a good player?
It's why im put off by it lately, feel like a cheat using the paladin. If only the points could be split with the detonator rather than you taking the glory.
Anyway a lot of people are going for challenges, new builds, chracters, weapons. And as long as they don't go down a few times every wave, not use medigel, they can do one.

80k is good in my book. I've definitely had matches where I struggled to get 80k just because I couldn't reach the spawns before they were nuked, but then became the nuke-r in the next game. I'd play with you any time, xtorma!

I'd take someone who didn't score high but helped out on objectives and used equipment when necessary over someone who topped the scoreboard by blatantly ignoring them and trying to inflate his score.

Yes. Besides, that's what makes scoreboard matter in ways it shouldn't. Nobody wants the results of a subpar game to be posted somewhere to get humiliated even more.
Poor guy. He must have just figured out his weapon is now useless because of the nerfs.

Yeah, points mean next to nothing. Sometimes you just randomly never get killing blows.

Points themselves are meaningless, was the guy playing as a Turian Sentinel? How about any other number of classes that are considered less gold ready? Sometimes its hard to get that many points, even in gold. Especially when everyone else got 100K. At 40K I'd say the person needs to go back to silver, but 80K isn't that bad at all. Carried slightly is not dragged completely.

TLDR: The bars on the score screen do not show the proportion of points each player got, they instead highlight the differences between their scores. Which is a little bit odd for a cooperative game and perhaps encourages the sort of behaviour xtorma encountered.

Great post, I've always known something was iffy with those bars, glad you highlighted it for others to see.

I do agree that the way the scoreboard and the scoring system in general work, it's almost like the game wants people to get competitive amongst themselves.

in a pug I am happy if everyone scores above 50k. 80k is pretty decent. they were doing somethign most of the game, seems to me

It is nice to have a maxed manifest. I've only done this once when a group of campers didn't rez me when I was literally right at their damned feet (if they'd tried to take cover or dodge, they would have started reviving) after I'd completed objectives on 3 and 6, and it was purely because I didn't want to camp with them.

I almost never contribute to these types of threads, as I don't feel I have anything to say beyond the obvious, but I've played with you quite a bit TC and you're fine pugging gold.

I would in fact go so far as to say a Gold Collectors with those scores might be (key word, "might") indicative of poor understanding of what needs to be done by the "top" scorers, or just a general unwillingness to do it, which in my book lends itself to a less enjoyable match.

Random matches are random, you never know what mood the people you play with are going to be in. I've been called a "loser f-n f*gg*t" totally out of the blue for medigelling near another person (never mind that he was being stunlocked by a Prime at the time) and not waiting for a revive.

Z.

this is a good point. if the others were not doing objectives, and just killing during those waves, and you were, then the scoreis even more meaningless. Some people are looking to run up their score, so there is that....

The reason why I posted this is not because I am just getting into gold. I play gold quite a bit, you can see on map mastery. I always play with a set group of people who do not change a whole lot. In those games, unless I am playing tryhard class I normally score last. doesn't bother the folks I play with. no worries.

Making the jump to pugging gold requires more it would seem. I am not even going to imagine what it's like to pug platinum. What I was basically doing was looking for a consensus on what most people expect out of a pug because I don't want to be exed from every game thinking I did ok.

I thought soloing gold would be an indicator, but that proves to not be the case, as alone i can easily control the flow of battle, but with 3 unknowns, it becomes much more difficult. I find soloing easier actually.

What I see here are opinions as varied as the pugs I will more than likely encounter as I play. It really didn't bother me much to get kicked for my performance, I just wanted to get an idea as to what the standards were to pug gold, and not leave a bad impression.

Nothing wrong with a score of 81000. He could've joined late, been support, lagging, or wasn't killing bosses.

If the score was like 25-30k and those extra 55-50k were spread amongst the top 3 then there is a definite problem there. That's would be a bigger discrepancy and something fishy is up.

Are you serious? 81k is a completely valid score. Now, the following results of my own PUG make for a better question:

1. 214510
2. 125189
3. 58011
4. 39181

The bottom place is a volus who did nothing but follow me around for the entire match, shield boosting (slayer) and peashooting the enemies with his GPSMG every once in a while. However, despite the ridiculously low score compared to mine, he was still being useful and very much in the game. Would I prefer a teammate that contributed damage-wise? Probably. Would I kick him the next time I saw him in my lobby? Absolutely not. Though I did wonder what the fun was in it - perhaps the only thing he cares about is credits - but regardless I can't deny that his shield boost was useful, and certainly no less useful than the average random's contribution anyway.

sorry but if you were a slayer, he was trying to help you spam PD. very nice of him - i would have loved that. game over super fast
