It makes me really appreciate ME 3. I beat ME 1 in about 11 hours yesterday and I started ME 2 as well and after doing so it made me really appreciate how great the combat is in ME 3. Of course the story for ME 1 was still great but that is all that kept me playing. Might not have helped that I was a Vanguard either which imo is the absolute worst class in ME 1. Glad they made it better in the other games.  What's your favorite class for ME 1? I think if I ever do another speed run I might be an engineer or sentinel

Interesting that you think so low of the Vanguard. Most acknowledge it as arguably the strongest class, as far as I know, since biotics can so easily dominate everything and it's pretty much an even stronger Adept.

I agree ME3 combat is a lot of fun, very fast and fluid.

My favorite class in ME1 is probably the Infiltrator. Though to be honest, I play it pretty much just like an Engineer, I just like wearing medium armor and having my Immunity safety blanket.

Soldier is my favorite ME1 class... although I also like Infiltrator and Sentinel.

Vanguard probably isn't the weakest class in ME1... since you have decent biotics and Adrenaline Rush to reset the cooldowns. Most people think Engineer is the weakest in that game.

He is strong but that's about his only advantage but for me a solider in ME 1 is the best class. I'd even say the Adept because I enjoyed that class as well. In fact I imported this character to ME 2 and decided to be an Adept this time though I am considering starting over and make him a Senintel because that is a fun class also.

My problem with vangaurds is that you are fighting geth most of ME 1 which in some ways negate biotics due to their shields and outside of warp and barrier I could go without a lot of biotic powers in ME 1. Singularity is a good power too.

Shields do not slow down biotics in the slightest in ME1. Singularity, Lift, Throw all works regardless of defenses. Playing with a biotic-heavy character, you should have everything floating in the air waiting to be shot, regardless of whether it is organic or synthetic. Biotics are supremely overpowered in ME1.

And if you slot Singularity in a Vanguard, you have an Adept that can cast twice as fast thanks to Adrenaline Burst, wears medium armor on top of having more HP, does more damage with a pistol and comes with a free shotgun! Posted Image

My record time for beating Mass Effect 1's story is 6 hours.

If you are not just zipping through the story then that means doing the side missions, which are very organic rich. And in fact the organics on side missions are largely more irritating to deal with, and in some ways more dangerous, than the Geth on mainline missions.

that's pretty quick. I did most of the convo on the normandy and the conrad and jenna missions otherwise I would have probably did it that quick too. Started ME 2 today as well and it again made me really appreciate ME 3 for combat alone. After about 2 hours I jumped back onto ME 3 MP because I missed my biotic and tech explosions. You can do them in ME 2 but its harder to do because of the slow recharges probably. The only way I could get them was by having a squadmate prime and I detonate.

I agree I have played all of the missions before but I wanted to have a decent ME 2 character to start with. My plan was to import Ashley and save Kirahee but I killed her on VIrmire. I never noticed how ****y she was until this play through I always liked Ashley though I did always notice how mean she is to Liara.

forreal? never noticed. maybe next time but one thing I did notice is how OP overload is. Granted everyone has it except wrex and ashley but I was wrecking everything with Tali and overload.

I want to replay the series, Insanity in ME1 was boring because of all the enemy immunity use.

Noooo! How could you kill Ash?  She is probably the best written character in ME1. :)

Any biotic class was great for me in 1. Loved how biotics actually moved things. I loved throwing containers and stuff at people. Never played Soldier and never, ever will. Don't care for the typical shooter class. Didn't care for the tech ones, either, they were better in the other games.

I think Kaidan is better than Ash in 3 (In 1 too). He has far more use in combat, Ash is too much like Garrus. I'd rather have people with abilities than "look at my ammo powers and grenades" like James. Also, Ash has the thing with her sister then gets drunk, and that's it. Kaidan has far more (and in my opinion) better character development.

I don't dislike Ashley. She was orignially one of my ME 1 favs actually but she's a lot more boring in ME 3 compared to Kaiden. Then again I will probably shoot Kaiden on the Citadel because he's a whiney b*tch

I think Solider and Infiltrator are thus far my fav classes in ME 1 but I agree about Kaiden being more useful in ME 3. I don't mind the solider types in ME 3 I just think that James and Garrus are more than enough of that for one team.

I think she's tied with Kaiden for best written, and both are horribly under-rated by a lot of players.

In terms of combat, Kaiden is more useful in both 1 & 3 but I still use Ash a lot. In fact my favorite squad combo in both games is Ash + Garrus.

I unintentionally gravitated to the soldier types in ME3. In addition to Ash and Garrus, I find James a lot of fun to use. Those three are by far my most used squaddies regardless of which class I'm playing, but that is also due in part to me not liking EDI and Liara being too awesome for my own good.Posted Image

EDIT: cause I broke the quote.

I think Ash got a different writer for ME3... which is part of why her character is a bit different.  I don't know if that is why she has essentially no character arc in the third game or not.

Yeah they kinda dropped the ball on Ashley in ME 3. The Liara hate never came back out. I thought for sure Liara was gonna pull some nasty business out on her that she could only discover as the Shadow Broker. Though she does have some funny lines on Thessia. Also her romance in ME 3 sucks. Then again I am not big on any romance in ME 3 except for Tali and to a point Miranda's. Garrus' romance is alright never romanced Kaiden and the current playthrough of ME 2 I am doing now will probably be Jack because I never romanced her either but I love Jack's character.

I like having Liara around myself Tali too. I use everyone equally but I think my fav squad members of the whole series were Wrex, Ashley, Tali, Liara, and Jack.

Random thought I know Bioware says there are no cannon choices but I think there are quite a few that show up in ME 3. Example Keep the Council alive, Keep Wrex alive, don't lose anyone in the suicide mission and do all of their loyalty missions, and I think Kaiden was the cannon choice for Virmire which is why Ashley doesn't appear on ME 2 without Genesis or a gave save. By default its Kaiden. They don't want to come out and say it or punish people for making a bad choice but you see later that there were some wrong choices. Killing Samara for Mornith is a bad move not destorying the collector base is a bad move and I think Destroy was meant to be the cannon ending.

For ME3, at least, Kaiden is the default VS for female Shepards, Ashley for male ones in non-imports. It's to allow for the romance options. I'm pretty sure it's the same in ME2.

The ME3 non-import choices aren't that at all though, they're pretty much set up to make things as difficult as possible in many ways - http://www.gamefront...mport-from-me2/ . I don't get the impression they're meant to be 'canon', though.

And, yeah, Ashley was written by Chris L'Etoile in ME1 (who also did Thane and Legion in ME2), he wasn't involved in ME3. I think she was written by the same guy who did Miranda in ME3 and a few others (Jay something or other)

Tali deserves more play time than I give her. Her skillset is useful against all factions this time around, especially in combination with a Shep using tech powers.

My problem with Liara is that she's so good she becomes central to my strategy without me meaning for it to happen. She pulls more weight than Shep, I think. I flat refuse to use her when I play an Adept, except when forced. The only class I use her regularly with is the Sentinel.

I thought Jack had a very good romance plot in ME2 that was unfortunately gutted like many others in 3. I had problems using her in combat, though, which was rough because I like to take my LI on as many missions as possible. I never got any DLC for ME2, so she was hampered by a bad weapon selection and was fairly fragile. Add to that I thought Shockwave was crap in 2. My best use for her was as a Pull-bot for Adepts and Sentinels, but Samara made her obsolete in that role.
