Recently I've been soloing a lot, and the best I've been able to do with a GI and various weapons (Claymore, Piranha, Scorpion etc...) has been around 31-32 minutes on glacier.  I'd like to get a solo under 25 minutes while I still play this game.

Aside from simply getting better at the game, do you have any tips for speeding up solos?

Well, I for one always felt bad if I had to use a medigel, ops pack or rocket in a solo. Don't know why but that's just me trying to be perfect or something. When I finally decided that I would try to not be that "perfect" during a Gold solo then I actually cut my normal time with 15-20 minutes. Usually a Geth Infiltrator Giant run takes me between 40-45 minutes in time, and that's because I am playing catious and because I am trying to not use any of my consumables.

So when you want to solo and get a good time, you should get yourself right in front of the enemies faces and you should not care if you have to use a medigel or an ops pack. Ramboing is the best thing, using cover only when you absolutely have to is also vital (cause most of the times you will actually stand in the open). It is also important not to kite enemies around but instead stand in the fray for as long as possible.

I am not a speedrunner when soloing, but with some practice and a change to my mindset then I would be able to do Giant in about 22-23 minutes and Glacier would probably end up being around 18-19 minutes. And I'm a guy who usually takes at least 40 minutes to complete a solo.

Here you have a video of a 26 minute and 26 second Gold solo on Giant where I for the first time tried to not aim for 10 waves survived and no consumables used, hope you can take some ideas from it: youtu.be/Ms5g-etGCCw

Get headshots. Also, you're going to have to be really good with spawn prediction or find a funnel spot. Watch some of Stentron's glacier solos and you'll see what I mean.

Get good with wallhax. Get good with right hand advantage. Find the sneak spots for doing objectives. Getting 4 devices is pretty much +2mins to your desired time.

Missile plan -> Save 2 missiles for Wave 10. If you get targets on any wave, you're going to have to use a missile unless you are a Reegar Kroguard. If you have all 5, I would use one on Wave 8 and 2 on Wave 9. 2 missiles for wave 10 is for insurance in case you get targets there or a tough objective. The last missile is for post-objective cleanup. For Armored Compartments, I would go 1x W5, 1x W7, 2x W8 (if Geth, don't bother nuking W8), 2x W9 and the last 2 for wave 10. You should also have a plan for tactical use of thermal clip packs.

The trick is to waste the spawn budget with elite mooks while catching bosses with collateral damage. For Cerberus, that means lolgoons. For Geth, Hunters and Pyros, since they're the ones that will be constantly following you. If there's only a boss around though, you can kill it while waiting for things to come to you.

This is close to my normal missile plan, though sometimes things go awry.  Would you still take the Talon against cerberus though?  I feel naked without my scorpion against all those phantoms.

Unfortunately, the last 3 solo attempts have gotten me devices on Glacier vs. Reapers.

Well, the moment you get devices you can kiss goodbye any attempts at getting a good time. F**** devices! >:(

On Wave 6/10, absolutely.  I don't mind devices on Wave 3, even on Glacier.  It can pretty easily be a sub 1:30 objective, as the enemies will be chasing you from device to device.  That s**t never works out on Wave 10 though.  I usually count myself lucky if I get out of a Wave 10 devices alive when soloing.

ok, so its not just me then.  I got a wave 10 device mission today while soloing and it was a pain in the arse.  Kiting...kiting...kiting..go back to the device..on my butt in seconds or a ravager has their targeting lasers on me.  Bit it on the last device wondering what I did wrong since everything was going so smoothing until RD 10.

The Talon is pretty easy to use - you can get a one shot headshot on just about anything. With phantoms, you have to hit them on the recovery animation of their flip. I already said to watch Stentron's videos, and he shows that pretty well on his GI solos. You could go Claymore + Scorpion, but that would take more time due to having to reload. Or Hurricane + Scorpion, but you'd have to enter JayHax mode to really be able to beat out the Talon GI's one shot headshots.

The vorcha sentinel is also great at nuking spawns of reapers on glacier with his flamer/cluster grenades explosions. Slap on an acolyte and hurricane. Strip shields, flame for a sec or two and throw grenade then apply flamer again for 2 to3 seconds. That should destroy everything short of a gold banshee.

I guess I'll call this a step in the right direction, even though I was c***-blocked by jiggly brute bumbum.

Objectives: Kill/Device/Hack(end of hallway)
using GI-Piranha with Armored Compartments/Cyclonic III/Incendiary IV/Shotgun Rail III

I just got 25:07 White/Cerb/Gold with the Drell Infiltrator, and I'm a mortal so you could probably get under 25 min with that set up.

Infidrell (no grenades)
BW + piercing mod + extended barrel with Phasic III and Power Amp IV

No need for Acolyte since 1 shot + 2 recon mines take out anything but Atlases. It feels a lot more forgiving than the GI since you can stagger entire groups with the Recon mine.

Progress again:Image IPB
This was not by any means a smooth run.  My nerves were frayed from getting devices the last three attempts of the day, which is the only excuse I have for no 20 HS medal in a solo :o.  Also, I got pinned into a corner by a Brute on wave 8 and used 2 medigel and then 4 rage rockets to kill everything (leaving me no budget for wave 9.)  It was cathartic though.

Finally got lucky with the objectives:  Escort/Pizza/Escort.  The last escort went so smoothly all the enemies were still doing their idle animation when I'd finished the objective.

Loadout was the same as before GI-Piranha with Incendiary IV, Cyclonic III, Rail amp III, and Armored Compartments.

I'm pretty sure I can get under 25 now, so I'm going to move my personal goal post to 20.

Why Incendiary ammo over Warp ammo? For the Fire Explosions?

Nicely done, man! I know what you're talking about, raging trying to get the right objectives and always getting devices. Especially on Glacier. No matter what they say, they're not making me believe that every objective has the same chance to happen.

Not after I only got one run without any devices out of roughly 25 trials with the Slayer. Luckily I managed to push it under 20 (my goal) even with wave 3 devices, so I'm done with that, it gives me too much of a headhache honestly.

Mostly personal preference, but if I had to give a reason it would be Fire Explosions + a little bit more Crowd Control on mooks.

After a month away from trying to improve my solo time, I decided to try another GI solo on Glacier, this time with the Claymore. I was able to succeed at my original goal in this thread (solo in under 25 minutes.) I got it on video as well:

Link

This was again Reapers/Glacier
Objectives were escort/pizza/hack
Equipment: Armored Compartments/AP IV/Cyclonic IV/Rail III
Final Time: 24:46

I will probably try to get under 20 at some point but it seems like I will need to solo vs. Cerberus to improve much on the present time, and I hate playing cerberus.

That's the glitch where if you get out of the circle quickly after activating it, the hack will keep progressing even if you're outside of the circle.

Awesome, great job man! :wizard:

If you want to go under 20, you might want to switch the weapon though...

I do around 25 minutes on Giant against Cerberus Gold with N7 Destroyer, but all depends on the objectives. I did 2 platinum solos with him and it took around 45-47 minutes.

Weapons: Geth Plasma Shotgun X and Typhoon (recently changed to Spitfire). Here is how I use the weapons:

Wave 1-3: Typhoon/Spitfire
Wave 4: GPS (Phantoms...)
Wave 5: Typhoon/Spitfire
Wave 6-10: GPS as default, pulling out AR whenever I'm sure I can kill an Atlas without being killed by a Phantom.

That is with default rocket number. Probably with AC V would be a bit faster. The key thing to this gameplay is: fast killing Phantoms/Dragoons and fast killing Atlases. Because those two Assault Rifles are ideal when it comes to dealing with Atlases, I don't have to run away whenever one comes by. Don't have to kite them, just kill whatever comes near. GPS is one of the best weapons to kill Phantoms fast and efficient both at close and long distance.
