I can deal with anything just not sexual assault, if that happens to the PC or we watch it to a close companion I think it crossed a line that is impossible to go back on. I can't imagine how traumatizing that would be.

I'm playing DA:O for the first time. They don't show anything, but... what happened to Shianni...

You'd have to be one soulless f*** to leave her with Vaughan. I only wish my rogue had taken his head clean off. I'm sure there's a chamber pot somewhere in the room for disposing of it.

I left her in my city elf playthrough. Yep I was that souless piece of shyt that left her in exchange for some gold. Then didn't care about the other elf guy going to jail while I walk free.

I'm hoping it's pretty dark. Not gore and nudity dark, but that aweful sense of failure when you make the wrong choice and all your good intentions blow up in your face.
But with an underlying feeling of hope. Despite how things get, it's still possible to fix things as the world crumbles around you.
A world where letting a bad man win eventually works out in end and rescuing a few innocents comes back to bite you later.
But also the opposite. Convincing a soldier who doubts his employer to turn coat instead of killing him results in him bringing him reinforements when you're in need.
Focusing on to light results on us unable to take the threats not being taken seriously.
Focusing on too dark just has us going "oh look, a new character. I'm sure there about to die horribley. No point getting invested".

In short. Everyone should be able to be saved, but make the chance of failure so much higher and the failure constantly weigh on the Player Character. Unless you're deliberatly playing a sociopath I guess.

Keep the gore and nudity too though :)

I know she was. I was alluding to it. And in light of that, gutting Vaughan is simply a matter of principle.

Ah my bad. I assumed you wern't sure as you said its your first playthrough.

So long as Bioware grabs my feels and tosses them around like Jodie Foster on a pool table, I'll be good.

I personally want it dark enough that it doesnt matter how hard I try or how far I get as long as that in the end, it doesn't even matter.

Having another family that doesn't die horribly for the dramaz would be appreciated. :|

I don't really want dark. Or more to the point if I have a family in this game I would like them to be alive at the end for a change.

My mother getting killed before my eyes is just getting way too repetitive that it's becoming cliché.

Indeed.  A certain amount of darkness is okay, in a "it's always darkest before the dawn" kind of way.

But to have no way out, just an arbitrary "for the feelz" tragedy that serves no purpose but to impose a  "dark is deep" philosophy on all players, regardless of playstyle?  No thanks

As long as dark, in this context, doesn't mean "brooding-emo-abandon-all-hope-who-enter-here-I-hate-myself-and-I-want-to-die-I-am-tattooed-with-lyrium-which-makes-me-pretty-awesome-but-I-hate-everything-anyway" (yeah I'm looking at you, Fenris >.>), I'm all for it being dark and gritty in a mature and unadulterated way.

Maybe more apt to say that I like to be emotionally engaged in both happiness and sadness. To give a recent BioWare example from ME3:
Tuchanka. Seriously. The grandeur of that mission - the buildup and gorgeous climax (or anti-climax that still leaves a deep emotional impression, depending on your choices) is a perfect example of the quality I would like to see in DA3.

Considering Patrick Weekes is now over at the DA3 department, I am hopeful.

Well if it's darkly funny then I'm all for it. Going for an emo type theme similar to Fenris is too much. I know Fenris has his reason so I'm OK with him as a character but to have an entire game with that feeling? I think it would be too depressing to play. It should be as light-hearted as possible even if the story is serious.

I mostly just want it to be consistent.

What I don't want is "I like big boats, I cannot lie", sarcastic Hawke, sitcom style dialogue/banter, or any other atmosphere breaking, tired pop-culture/internet meme references.

I'm just praying it won't be over the top grim dark woe is me cliché story typical for 17 year olds that just discovered dragonlance novels.

I wouldn't mind it being dark at all, actually, so long as it actually was dark. Which isn't to say I want it to overwhelmingly depressing and lacking in any lightness at all.

No darker, or lighter, than what Bioware envision . . . really. The light or dark tone isn't something I care about as much of the implementation and quality of any themes that happen to be present. Either can be well done.
