@M25105: Are you calling Dragonlance "dark"?
Maybe, I can't remember any of it since I read it when I was 16 or something. What I am saying is that some people have some sort of weird obsession that rpgs must be grimdark or some crap like that cause it's more mature and realistic, meanwhile it wouldn't wonder me if those same people also weird looking anime weapons and the ability to sex everything that moves on two legs in the game.
For me it's a sign that people are a fan of bad writing, since I consider cliché grimdark storylines just as lame as dragonlance.

I generally like RPG setting to be more on the dark side of things. I find it makes the heroism of my PCs stand out.
There's something to be said for less noticeable acts of heroism or villainy . . . the small things that so often go unnoticed, but still make all the difference. A hero concentrated on their acts standing out isn't really a hero anyways, they're more of a glory hound, where a true hero would need no thanks and ask no reward or recognition. Just the same a truly smart villain might do something villanous but getting noticed for it would typically be the last thing they'd want, as, with crime . . . how does one pursue a criminal if all victims and authorities involved are unsure of whether a crime truly took place at all, either due to lack of witness or lack of evidence (or otherwise).

As long as dark, in this context, doesn't mean "brooding-emo-abandon-all-hope-who-enter-here-I-hate-myself-and-I-want-to-die-I-am-tattooed-with-lyrium-which-makes-me-pretty-awesome-but-I-hate-everything-anyway" (yeah I'm looking at you, Fenris >.>), I'm all for it being dark and gritty in a mature and unadulterated way.
Cursed With Awesome
Heh. Typical. Yeah, so let's skip this trope this time? Or if not skipped, let's at least make it less whiny? Oh wait..<_<

So, I'm fine with dark, but I'd like to see a lasting compromise and peace between mages and templars.
And retiring with my love interest in peace.
So, I'd say I'm fine with some pretty dark stuff as long as you can turn the tide and be the light in the dark.

It is easy to go horribly wrong with too much light/dark. Stiff gets corny. Imo it'd best if devs would not really consider anything DAI related in such terms.
.....All that said, it'd be cool to get a genuinely, mind humpingly DARK game that isn't all about BOOYA MONSTER IN CLOSET effect ala Dead Space, Doom or survival horror mehhness. Mid 90's, they made a point n click adventure based on art by H.R Giger. Something similar in today's tech would be SO AWESOME. Not somethin for DA franchise to worry about tho, surely.

The world is not black or white, but a mix of grey.
I would not want my DA:3 experience to be any different.

This. I want heroes and villains in all sides of the conflicts we are tasked with solving. No good or evil sides. I want to be able to get major factions to talk to each other and makes agreements.
