Too bad that the hunt is visibly scripted. I wish the griffin was flying off to different locations, since the devs assure that you can climb it all.

The hunt was scripted because of the demo. Same goes for the final cutscene where Geralt draws his silver sword.

Sorry about that. I have read too much comments of posters on other forums who love to oversimplify game and book lore of the Witcher to no end.

A little while ago the fifth witcher book, The Baptisim of Fire was published in finnish and I devoured it in a couple of days. Regis, Milva and Ciri are the best!

Too bad I still have to wait couple of years before I get the last witcher book on my bookshelf.

That's alright. Actually, would this mean that TW3 is less strict in steel/silver vs. monsters? Meaning not all monsters will require the silver sword now to be fought effectively? That would be cool, but I suspect they feel that would make it too complicated for some players. I've already read complaints from people who struggled with figuring out which sword to use in each situation. If they change steel = humans and silver = monsters to steel = humans + some monsters and silver = other monsters that could be confusing (just like this sentence. Oh dear). It would require research/preparation for each monster you can run into. I rather like that idea, but I don't see it as that likely to be implemented.

I think they will probably keep it steel = humans and silver = monsters. Changing it at this point would probably confuse even a lot of series fans, nevermind new comers. I assume the only reason he was using the steel in the trailer was for a bit of drama, so they could end on him dramatically pulling out the silver sword as he now means business. I'd like having to do a bit of research on monsters to find out which sword they are more vulnerable to, but it seems a bit awkward in an open world game, you'd need an awful lot of prior knowledge of what you're about to face.

I remember there was also a point in Time of Contempt where Geralt disliked fighting with his silver sword against certain enemies (in that case it was a sorcerer) because the silver is weaker than his steel sword and can be broken more easily. It isn't super clear on when he uses each sword, but sounds like he can be reserved in using silver unless it's necessary (imagine how much fixing pure silver would cost, and witchers aren't rich folk).

Witchers use silver swords on magical/mythical creatures only (mostly on those who phased into the worl after a grat cataclysm called Conjunction of the Spheres). Point is - those creatures are allergic to silver (and magic sometimes). Oridinary beasts and muteted monsters get the same treatmet as human bandits and other scum - cold sharp steel.

Silver is a much weaker metal than steel, so that makes sense. In fact objects made of pure silver can be easily bent or damaged.  I'm guessing the Witcher's silver swords must be made of some sort of silver alloy instead, otherwise they'd probably be too weak.

Pretty sure they're just steel swords with silver coating.

Steel isn't metal, it's an alloy.

Myam!

Novigrad is supposed to be based on Amsterdam (not literally, but the basic idea of a late medieval / early modern port city with canals & all that). The buildings look like a pretty good pastiche of late medieval/early modern Netherlandish (Dutch/Belgian) / North German Hanseatic architecture.
The city really looks great!

(by way of comparison:)

CDProjekt really did a damn fine job with Novigrad  :) .

Perhaps it is my agoraphobic nature, but I really enjoyed the part where he could skip the sidequests, and get out of the city. Thanks for posting!

He looks beautiful. His butt in tight leather is totally not the reason for me preordering the game
