Looks pretty damn great and they are saying

"In a nutshell:
- New animation system
- 64-bit HDR rendering
-bokeh depth-of-field

- and more improvements"

I don't care personally for depth of field, but they also have tesselation in there as well!

Thanks for posting the picture of Red Engine 3. Pretty sweet. Although I thought textures would be better.

Didn't Witcher 2 use like 2048x2048 textures?

I think it was in some cases but not all, the characters had them for certain, but I don't think textures of buildings did.

I'm not sure. But next-gen consoles will handle textures way better then TW2. Of course high end pcs will still reign supreme. We'll have to see. The announcement is coming in a few days...I wish they would release some screenshots of TW3 itself.

I could dig being able to use crossbows in TW3.

I would love to be able to use chains, just like the Witcher One's intro.

Saw this over at Neogaf.

Please tell me there are horses in Witcher 3 and is it that the name!? Geralt has a beard!

Ok wow, the text is small. I don't want to miss anything good. Here's a small few things I got that I loved.
  • World  supposedly 20% bigger than Skyrim's
  • 30-40 minutes to cross world on Horseback
  • New streaming technology (CDRED Engine 3)
  • Geralt's Memory is restored
  • No chapters/acts
  • Dude is ****ing DONE fighting for everyone else
  • Everything from solving MYSTERIES to slaying monsters
  • Coming out on "all top-of-the-line" consoles - I'd say that confirms next-gen is in.

Just saw this on GAF and was about to post it over here. Looks great!

The horses make sense I guess when you think of that one short film/cutscene they had with Geralt riding his horse. Maybe that was a test case for horse riding in the game?

I wonder who is riding that horse with Geralt? Looks to have white hair, so probably not Triss or Yennefer. On second look, its probably another Witcher, since they have a silver sword.

Reading through the Gaf thread, seems the thought is the other rider could be Ciri.

Woowww! Is that Ciri with Geralt ? At first I thought it was Dandelion, but long, blonde hair and witcher sword strapped to the horse seem to against it. Damn... I'm waiting for more details.

Although I'm surprised about that "Open World" Aspect.

Having a soft-spot for bearded characters, I'm loving the new Geralt look. However, I'm worried how CDPR's foray into open-world might turn out.

Until then, however... my body is ready.

From the NeoGAF thread, from someone supposedly reading through the Game Informer article:

Next big update:

So it's saying that they had to change up their design philosophy when developing TW3, due to the open world structure. So NARRATIVE comes in three forms:

Lowest level = free form activities like crafting, monster slaying (seems to be much more extensive this time around) and questing.

Next level = Political situation of Nilfgaardian invastion is resolved through a core plotline for each area. These areas? -> Skellige, Novigrad and No Mans Land!

Final level = Geralt's main plot line, his search for his loved ones, and the chase of the Wild Hunt.

Sounds like a lot of interwoven plotlines, decision making. You can skip things if you really want, but there will be consequences to your actions if you do so.

Also from NeoGaf thread.

"CD Projekt RED has provided the screenshots you see here from its current in-game assets running on its Internal PC development hardware. However, the renderer - the part of the engine that translates the game files into what you ultimately see on screen - is still in development and will boast significant improvements by the time The Witcher 3 ships. "Right now you see the game in the old renderer, but it's going to be taken to a truly next level," says gameplay producer Marek ZSiemak. In particular, the developers tell us that skin shaders and the dynamic lighting model will be markedly more advanced in the final version."

Oh my freaking goodness. Sounds fantastic!!! I'm curious to see some real screens, although I believe that the image of Geralt is probably from a screen-shot. Holy sweet Toledo! 20% larger map then The Elder Scrolls V? Sweet...but I will believe it when I see it. I think it'll likely have a more refined cinematic style of The Witcher 2 with the surrounding world just being much, much more massive...with much more for us to do. I expect the same Grade A writing. I wonder what the story will be about? The only thing I'm not sure of is the subtitle. "Wild Hunt" is a little odd, to say the least. But excellent!!! Must. Learn. More. ASAP!!!

My main question is how they'll fill up the map if it is indeed 20% larger than Skyrim. If its got good horseback riding, good combat, and plenty of monster variety I'm ok with plenty of Witchering across the countryside. I just hope CDPR doesn't fall into the trap of making a huge landscape and nothing to do in it.

I HOPE they don't suck at making cities, because I was very annoyed by how small cities in Skyrim were.

I'm imagining something like Vizima but that's possibly too far-fetched.

Vizima was still too small. I want something bigger, much bigger.

I better not be.

Also, hearing about being able to travel to Novigrad makes me slightly more optimistic for a noticible role for the Order and most importantly a Siegfried appearence.

I better be able to kill Iorveth in this too.

The potential for monster hunting can be excellent if done well. Or utterly boring.
I hope they go for quality as opposed to quantity, I'd rather track down a select few rare monsters over slaying hordes.

As for the open world, I'm kinda meh. I'm also meh about it being in the North. I mean I always wanted to see Redania, and it being there pretty much means moar Radovid, but I was much more excited going south to Nilfgaard and seeing Emhyr.

Like I'm excited, but also skeptical.
