Since it is looking increasingly likely that BioWare have totally lost the plot, I think I will switch to CD Projekt RED and their games.

CD Projekt surpassed Bioware ever since they published their game, the witcher 1. It suffered from somewhat plain writing and horrible translations, but it was a hell lot better than Bioware's typical character based, cliched plots.

And with the witcher 2 and ME3... well, do  I need to say more?

Please don't turn this to a BioWare hate thread. There's an entire website dedicated to that.

I'm a bit curious about the areas we'll see in The Witcher 3. Probably everything from Novigrad down to the Yaruga river. Oxenfurt will most likely be in since it's right below Novigrad. One thing I'm curious about is Brokilon forest, since it's rather massive and right in the middle of what would be "No Man's Land". But I'm not sure what you'll be able to do there, since the dryads kill any human that enter it, and even Nilfgaard avoided it completely in their past incursions in the north. Maybe we'll even be able to reach Vizima.

RPG Codex hates anything that's not isometric... or from Troika Games.

Anyway... Found this on Famitsu. Haven't seen it anywhere else. It's Leshen, the monster from the closed demo.

I'm also noticing that TW2 seems a lot harder than TW1. In addition, it feels far more twitch--much more focused on time sensitive inputs. This, in combination with the lack of a pause button, is disappointing.

The game actually stuck me down on Easy from my tutorial showing, and I bumped it up to medium, but I'm facing my first round of...of...ah, the things with the tunnels. Not drowners, but they feel like drowners in a sense. But I went down fairly quickly that first fight. I'm going to have to try again, maybe with some oil on my silver sword. I miss the "group" attack right about now.

This is one situation where my lower-end graphics are a real problem for the game--hard to play twitch at 20-25 FPS.

Famitsu? How did Japan like Witcher 2 anyway? I can't imagine it sold too well over there.

-You're card isn't as bad as mine. :P disable the effects I told you to.

-Story quests like meeting Loredo and Fight Club net you XP with no risk. Do them first.

-Then tackle the Kayran early for the XP boost. None of the armor you get in chapter one will matter against it anyway.

-Always use alchemy.

I appreciate the help.

But literally every advanced option that's a disabled/enabled toggle is off except:

Bloom, Vignette, & Depth of Field - Cutscenes.

All variable settings in the advanced option are as low as they possibly can be, except Texture Size--it's Small instead of Very small. Running with 1440x900 (it's a 16:10 monitor). Still getting in between 20-30, slowing down to around 20 when lighting kicks in or in a bigger fight.

I did do all the fighting ones, including both fistfights and arm wrestling. Same for poker, though I'm not sure what to do about the monk in the corner (every time I beat him, he says I haven't won enough for him to hand over his thing, whatever it is). Have not done meeting Loredo yet.

I was actually going to the cave to get that one plant, so that I could make the poison/venom antidote, but I got swarmed by that one enemy.

Going to the cave early is good. You need that herb for Kayran immunity.

It's a game for high end PC's. You'll just have to make it work. You may never get above 30 FPS, but that is still playable. It was for me anyway.

Ignore the monk, he was a GoG exclusive.

It did alright. There is actually a large niche for Western RPGs in Japan - just as there is one in the West for jPRGs. I remember reading somewhere how popular Two Worlds II was over there, I can't imagine Witcher doing worse ; ) TW2 360 version got 36/40 from Famitsu [that's a 9], for comparison DA:O 37/40, DAII 34/40.

BTW. How more awesome can these guys get ?

I think you need aoe attacks to handle the caves early. Probably grapeshot bombs and lots of them. They are very easy and cheap to make. That's like the only way to handle swarming monsters, at least early on.

I like the Witcher. Its what everything Bioware was afraid to do with Dragon Age. The full nudity and sex scenes really pushes DA's plainjane appeal.

I can see the resemblance. In Slavic mythology this creature is called Leshy. Guardian of the forest and animals - I think they captured the look.

Nekkers yeah, they're likely to cause your first death if you happened to finish the prologue without one.

Regardless of how much armor you have, or how weak the enemy is, back attacks in this game are pretty damn lethal. Not only that, but in caves, Nekkers occasionally spawn behind you, from ground you've already covered. So, do as Haplose says:

Yeah, Grapeshot bombs are fantastic against early monsters. I think you can insta-kill the smaller Nekkers with one even in Dark difficulty

According to the interview with Adam Kiciński [one of the CDPRs CEOs] it seems The Witcher 3 will be the most expensive Polish video game in history. The budget will be at least [or higher] 45 mln PLN [around 14.5 mln USD], but a real deal is the budget for the purpose of marketing the game. It's gonna be around 25 mln USD.

CDPR will completely cover the costs of making the game and the distributors will pay the money for marketing in return for shares in profits from the sales of each copy. Seems reasonable, I guess that's the price of independence when there is no EA/Activision/Sugar Daddy to arrange for things like that.

Source if you're interesed - it's in Polish.

This game will look sweet on a big-screen 4K TV, or 30" (2560x1600) computer display. :D

Already planning my PC upgrades, though keeping my options open to allow for new hardware available between now and Witcher 3 ship. Thank you CDPR for giving me something to look forward to in the PC gaming space.

14.5 million USD is still not that much for a AAA game budget.
