• Items imported from The Witcher savegames are of the same quality as in the first game. An
exceptional armor and weapon remains valuable. This makes the game easier, but it is an intentional
reward.
• Set elixirs and oils duration to 1 hour

*gasp* Must have! But the redkit site seems to be done for me. Anybody else has this problem?

I have to wonder though.... if there were deveopers who had such brilliant ideas and gameplay concepts... how come the game was shipped with rather poor, half-baked character development and combat systems?

I think players become more jaded with each game they complete/replay. In the 80s most game characters had brief sentences or phrases for conversation and nobody complained. The 90s added full sentences and some voice acting. Now we have mostly voice acting and NPCs have a lot to say. Granted, some games like PS:T set a high bar with regard to what characters have to say, but that game is also much like reading a book. I'm glad most games aren't like PS:T; it keeps PS:T special for those who love it, and saves the rest of us from having to read books when we really want to play a game.

I rather enjoy dialog in the Witcher games and books, even when it's just random ambient dialog spouted by scenery NPCs.

Do you mean player character [Geralt] skill progression or do you mean characters in the game ? It's hard to understand what you mean to be honest.

Also, I second what Simfam - it wasn't that bad, to be frank it wasn't bad at all if you had the patience and used the tools they gave you

Yes, it seems I didn't word that clearly. I certainly only meant character development mechanics - the really bad skill tree, probably even worse then in DAO. Something that the new mod supposedly adresses now.

The character personalities are certainly very well developed in TW2. I apologize for the confusion.

How does is it? I've tried combat rebalance mods before, but they've never done much for me. Do you feel that difference/improvement, or what?

I would direct you to the REDkit site for impressions but it's down right now. I have mixed feelings about it, and kinda feel Flash went too far in places he didn't have enough resources (new animations). The best part about it is how responsive Geralt is. You can literally cut a swing short, stopping it mid-action, then turn directions to stab another enemy. So targeting and melee in general is much quicker and sharper. Enemy AI is improved and all the stat changes seem logical to me. I'm just playing in Arena beause he still has some kinks to work out and I won't start a new run until he's got it right.

I've done the Prologue and the beggining of Chapter 1 two times yesterday...one with the vanilla version and other with the FCR and even if Flash still have to trim the edges of the mod the differences between the versions are very noticeable.

Geralt is much more responsive to the controls, the character development is much more simple (and rational), much less junk items and the economy is stabilized (less items to buy and the price is fair).

I can't imagine what you consider fully baked character development.  What game am I missing?  It must be pretty bleeping amazing.

Dark Souls?

Dunno, just a guess.

Think I'll wait to see impressions of this combat rebalancer. I'm not fond of mods that simply end up making combat more difficult, because for me combat is just an annoyance to put up with as I bounce from quest to quest and through story progression. Thus I play on easy difficulty. :P I had my fun with hardcore modes in my early years of gaming, now I prefer to relax with a game after a long day at work.

Nah, a fine game in its own right... but the system doesn't sit that well with me.

Well, for me Fallout 1 & 2 had the best character development mechanics, by far.
Arcanum was pretty good... if horribly unbalanced.
Then there are the DnD games.... Planescape was pretty good.... and Neverwinter Nights 1+2 were simply amazing in this regard. Baldur's Gates weren't that great... but on the other hand, these games had the best spellcasting systems, ever.

The Witcher 3 is picking up major awards for their E3 presentation ! Here is the list from the official CDPR blog. Lots of "best graphics", "best RPG", "best of E3" and so on. Over 60 awards I think, not to mention various nominations.

Today they won Game of the Show from Gametrailers and it's freakin' fantastic because I just can't wrap my head around what some of those major gaming sites see in Titanfall - it looks like Call of Duty with mechs and I'm not even exaggerating : /
