Bioware: Look at us! We're so awesome for having all these not so well known TV show actors! Oh and Martin Sheen! We're so ****ing awesome!

CD Projekt: We have Charles Dance.

Bioware:.....**** you..

As much as I love BioWare, yeah. You nailed it!

I'm also glad he's getting a good first impression of the medium. I know how people can get with video-games. They disregard them for kids without even playing them. Charles Dance will see how well written games can be through CDPR. No doubt about that.

I'm almost certainly the odd man out, but I am not sure if I am all that happy with Charles Dance.
He's great and almost certainly will not disappoint, but I associate his voice too much with Tywin Lannister now.
I'm never a fan of encountering a clearly recognisable and very familiar voice in a CRPG; wasn't too much of a fan of Claudia Black and Kate Mulgrew in DA:O and DA2 either.

But think about it! It's Tywin freaking Lannister playing an equally rutheless and brilliant politician! If Tywin ever had the passion to play a role, it'd be Emhyr! xD

Damn, I'm still playing through Witchers 2 and this trailers already got me hyped for 3!

Dragon Age: Inquisition, Witchers 3 and Elder Scroll online all coming out in the same year is going to take a lot of my free time.

A legitimate concern. I hope he's the only celebrity they hire, to be honest.

I don't see any problems with celebrity actors, unless they are paid a truckload for their role which is not necesarily the case.

I mean look at Saints Row for instance: They have some very famous voice actors, but it's not like they are swimming in money to pay them a lot.

I'm sure CDPR can afford it, it's not like they have 1000 big actors on it, and they seem do to really well with the money they get (comparing the costs for the Witcher 2 to other big AAA titles out there.)

I'm sure they could, but I see that as somewhat of a slippery slope, where devs start to try and get famous voice actors because they're making a "AAA rated" game  I don't think CDPR will, but that's always a worry.

In this case, I'm damn pleased they got Charles Dance, his performance in Game of Thrones as Tywin Lannister was brilliant, I've seen his acting in Bleek House, great again.

I think he's just the right actor to bring the needed weight and gravitas to the role of the Emperor. You could see it in GoT, Tywin's presence in the room put everyone in their place, and a simple sentence would make the Lords of other Houses consider their next world carefully. Really made the character his, now everytime I re read parts of the books I hear the words in Charles Dance's voice!

I'm a post-series guy, so every time I read Tywin's parts it was always Charles' image in my head xD

Whether the game is good or bad, I'm sure Charles will nail this role perfectly. It'd be funny if we heard the Rains of Castamere somewhere in the game, but I doubt it.

Then again, TW2 had a bunch of Tolkien references.

Well not every AAA actor demands a boatload of money, in fact some will work for low numbers. I would hope Charles Dance was hired not because he was offered a truckload of money but rather because he was contacted by CDPR, shown a script and he decided to play role despite the small payment because he found the script really good.

I mean he has played roles in some big movies, even going toe to toe with Schwarzenegger in Last Action Hero, but he's also played a lot of roles in low budget TV shows, mini-series and films.

And Ian Ian Mckellen still works in theatre. So you're right. Big actors doesn't necessarily mean huge boat loads of money. Some still do it because they love the work they do.

Ian Mckellen also voiced Gandalf in quite a few videos games. Battle for Middle Earth and Return of the King being the most prominent.

I only have prblems with famous voice actors when one of this two things happen:
1.- The character is modeled after the actor, throwing away any attempt of character desing simply because "famous" (funny cameos like Saints Row excluded);
2.- They are not voice actors (for example, game journalists).

When both those things happen at the same time it is enough to make me loose all respect for the game company.

As long as Charles Dance is good at his job and Duny isn't modeled after him, I'd say it will be great.

That would be stupid thing to do since Duny aka Emhyr is much younger then Dance.
I seriously doubt CDPR would do something like that, if they will stay faithful to the books like they always were, than Emhyr will look the way he is described.

Blooddrunk1004, I don't think they'll do it either, I have hope for this game and CDPrjoekt haven't given me any reason to doubt them in this regard.

3. They're "phoning in" the performance. BioWare doesn't accept that, not even from someone like Martin Sheen. But CDPR productions generally seem a little more... rough around the edges.

I'd say that is a separate issue from celebrities. I admit I don't know much how voice acting is done, I want the voice acting to be as good as possible ofc, but I don't know how to ensure that. When a developer starts hiring people who aren't actors however is when I know they don't care for the quality of the voice acting.

Charles Dance is a legit actor with an immense and diverse portfolio. As such I do not think he is going to sound too much like Tywin. If he accepted the role, it's probably because he was at the very least interested in it and is going to put effort into it.

Patrick Stewart did a good job in Oblivion, and so did Sean Bean. They're all phoned in VAs.

Really? I always thought they were just re-used dialogue from the films. But the lines that did seem out of place were very few... still, to have Ian there...

:o

To be honest, I'd rather him sound like a younger Tywin. His voice commands so much power, it'd be a shame if by changing it too much, it loses its effect.

Ahem.

Not a movie star or someone with an OBE but still one of the best voices in media: Simon Templeman.

If the writing didn't make Loghain the greatest character in Origins then the voice acting did.

I've yet to see any character that can compare to Loghain from Bioware or CDPR.

Sadly I think Bioware are past such complex characters and while CDPR had some good characters in The Witcher 2, you couldn't help but feel most were on one side of the extreme spectrum save for Letho of course. I liked Henselt but he was just your typical tyrant king.

The best characters are always the "great heroes" who in truth have massive flaws and doubts. Loghain is set up as this legendary hero who in truth is a flawed man striving to do anything for his country. The voice acting just perfects him.

Oh and Vernon Broche is cool.

I'll never know why he did this though. He clearly does it on purpose but as he lands he says **** as though it was a mistake. Strange guy...strange but ****ing awesome.

He's another one of the best characters in W2.

That being said. It's good to see CDPR getting such a great voice actor for Witcher 3. I thought Witcher 2 had some good voice acting (i.e Foltest, Henselt, Roche, Iorveth, Dethmold) but some characters sounded bad especially the females.

The characters with the strong clear american accents sounded horrible... (I'm looking at you Buttercup and kudos to whoever gets that)

Relax guys, Reds did justice to every book character that appeared in the game.
Emhyr will be no exception and i doubt he will get treated like characters who got voiced by celebrities in Bethesda games.
He's way to important to just have a small role + Geralt also has unfinished business with him.

Can you imagine Geralt, Letho & Emhyr having conversation together?! I really hope this will happen, even it's it's just 5 min.On one side you have Geralt who is constantly being forced into difficult decisions and politics, on the other side you have Letho who manipulated and deceived the entire North and in between is the Nilfgaard Emperror voiced by fcking Charles Dance who come up with the entire plan.

Also did anyone noticed similarities between Tywin and Emhyr:
- great general and strategist
- ruthless and controlling leader
- despises his children
- hates North
- makes pact with groups that allow him to assassinate kings and cause problems in kingdoms without Nilfgaard having to interfere

If you didn't side with this man, good luck.

The dialogue will be so stimulating that it will literally trigger an orgasm. Not to mention an eargasm...and a nerdgasm...

Death is highly probable.

Honestly I dislike it really. They could have made something as awesome as TW1 trailer which showed that epic fight between Geralt and the Strigga, important lore and story wise that one, or TW2 trailer which showed the assassination performed by Letho.

Instead we get Geralt saving some random woman.

I thought it significant in its own way. It establishes the brutality of the world and the moral code in which it abides by, and it gives us an idea on who Geralt really is.

Of course, to someone who is familiar with the series, it says very little.

This also confirms that the person he's travelling with is not Ciri, well, at least not in this section of the CGI trailer.

Geralt's companion also appears to be another Witcher, which is interesting. The Nilfgaardian thug addresses them as Witchers.
