More fluid? Maybe I didn't notice because of all the rolling rolling ROLLING
I won't miss that at all.
You only roll if you choose to.
I rarely rolled.
Again, I'm not saying it's the epitome of combat (because I prefer non-twitch in an RPG), but it went well with the cinematic nature of the game.
^This.
Apparently though, they're bringing somewhat similar "group/fast/strong" style to the combat of TW3. That is actually my biggest excitment as to what the combat will end up demostrating. Hopefully it's a good mixture of TW1 and TW2.

Rolling is not really optional. It's pretty much necessary to survive combat encounters. Anyway, enough said, because CDPR removed it. THANK GOD.
They, uhm...didn't entirely remove it.
Don't have the link but rolling isn't out, just diminished by the new system and new evade options.

For a terrible player like yourself sure.
Guess what though, you can beat any fight on INSANE without ever rolling once, yes even the Kayran/Draug/Dragon.

Good to hear CDPR doesn't share Bioware's philosophy of "remove it, not improve it".

Disagree, if anything needed removable it was the stupid rolling.Seboist wrote...

It's people like you who convinced Bioware to make ME1's sequel into a Gears knock off. *thumbs down*

Or beef up parry and vigor to the point you can block and counter all day long.

Constant dodging in itself isn't actually unrealistic. The type of dodging being done is what's unrealistic. "ah ca" the roll.spirosz wrote...
I much prefer the TW2 combat, but I understand the annoyance with the constant rolling, but I'm in the same boat as you Chris, I didn't mind it. I did block quite often as well, but if CD is able to bring back some of the elements of TW1, like the stances, but keep the fluid and more realistic (except the constant dodging) elements from TW2 - I believe TW3 will be great in that department

You've started feeling that too, then? The coreography is beautiful, but there's just something so unsatisfying about it. Even with all the crunching bones and severed arteries.spirosz wrote...
Yeah, I'd hate to see it like Assassin's Creed, it's probably the most boring combat, yet great to look at it.

As someone completely new to the Witcher franchise, how excited should I be for this game? It looks amazing from what I have seen so far.
Where are you starting from? The first?

All the enemies just stand there... waiting to be countered - I hate that.

I had initially planned to just jump into 3 when it comes out later this year, but should I start from 2 or 1?

Personally, I found the beginning of 1 to be a dreadful experience, but once you get past the first two acts it becomes a wonderful experience with a pretty rich story. The second one is more involved in the politics of the world and I found it much more enjoyable and I prefered a lot of the characters.
The atmosphere in the first one is amazing too, compared to TW2, IMO and CDPR is apparently making TW3 a much more personal experience, which is what I'm hoping for, while still keeping some of that political intrigue there for players who seek it. Plus the music in TW3 is going to be more like TW1, which is I felt is going to be needed.
You can play TW2 and still enjoy it quite a bit, but I like to try to have the "full" experience, in a sense - even though I haven't read the books.
And they've stated that you can go into TW3 just fine, so it's really up to you.
