I actually prefer it on M&K personally. Though I generally prefer everything except for driving on M&K.

I played with keyboard first and didn't like it until I tried with a controller. Was a much better and funner experience.
I played it on the 360 (with a controller, obviously) and STILL couldn't get into it. I realize that I just hadn't out the time in to understand the game's complex strategy or whatever, but the difficulty swings of "laughably easy" to "have to reload three times" was what really drove me to the point of apathy.
Not to mention the stealth areas. I try to always successfully sneak in games that allow it and found it to be a BEAR in TW2.

Stealth is pretty bad in TW2. If you just want to get through it for the story, play on easy, upgrade Aard and Quen, and learn to stack effects across the gear types. It'll be a breeze and quite fun.

I played both on my PC without controller, I prefer the mouse and keyboard.

I preferred m&k as well. I use it for all my pc games except AC.
I agree with Slimgrin, I was never able to successfully stealth in TW2, I don't know what I was doing wrong, lol.

At release, the complex strategy was just to abuse rolls and Quen.

Well, I'll admit I didn't give it as much consideration as it may have deserved, based on how some others praise they system. But 15 hours into a game and feeling like I'm doing it just to keep myself current in the woods of video game stories is not reason enough for me to endure.

If you play it on PC, could always give the combat rebalance mod a go. I'm yet to try it but I've heard a few people saying it fixed a few of their gripes with the combat system.

Honestly the gameplay isn't that great. It's a game worth playing for the story, and particularly replaying for the story, since it's very reactive.

I disliked Witcher 1's point and click... and if you're REALLLY ADVANCED clicking on them again type of combat -- not to mention the clusterfuck interface. Witcher 2 actually made the combat somewhat enjoyable for me and provided a neat challenge here and there. The only thing I found unwelcome was the unfair retarded quick-time-events. I didn't mind the stealth sections, since stealth games are my thing, I actually managed it just fine even if the game doesn't have intuitive stealth mechanics.

The Witcher has depth despite its rep as QTE combat, which is actually a hybrid turn-based style. Something most D&D traditionalists cry for....until it's not D&D.

I consider TW2 a more casual Dark Souls combat wise.
You can roll indefinitely and there's no stamina.

The old CRPG mechanics have never sit with me .. it's boring, slow and not in the slightest way fun.
@Pateu I think there's a difference between a game's combat being not-too-difficult to get the hold of quick and one that is unecessarily frustrating for the sake of being frustrating, because it doesn't allow you to pause, and its control set up is so confusing that it becomes jarring. I never got the appeal of Dark Souls -- There's a difference between a game being difficult, and one that is just being unfair for the sake of nipple twisting the player every 5 seconds. But that's just me. I want games to be fun while still retaining somewhat of a challenge. Like God Hand -- A game that offers fully customizable combat controls and combos, while also being challenging and requiring the player memorize every single move, dodge and block mechanic.
I played Witcher 2 and I don't recall the dodge roll being a complete safe way of getting yourself out of combat unless you play on easy.

Dark Souls isn't unfair.
There are people that finished the first one in what, 30 minutes?
It just takes practice.

I finished it 3 times. Once on Idontknow, once on the max difficulty and once on Dark Mode ( where you can craft that set that makes your screen black and white ).
Upgraded dodge is simply a lifehack. Not only can you spam it to get out of being surrounded by 20 people, you can also spam it to travel since it is faster than running.
I picked it up first even when running sorcery builds, so go figure.

Dat 'stache makes him look so old compared to the previous games. Reminds me of a quote that went along the lines of "Dandelion is nearing his 40's, looks like he's in his 30's, likes to think he's in his 20's, but acts like he's barely 10."

^^At first I thought something about his face had changed as well. Maybe his nose.

It's probably just the angle, though. He certainly does look a lot older now.
