no.  I would say 99% of BSN is underage kids, unemployed, or working class scrubs in deadend jobs.  Hearing you guys try to talk about real life is like listening to a bronze player give advice on load outs.

lol I guess I am in the 1% bracket. You'd be surprised how wrong this is as well. Yeah this makes sense to me.  It's not really reflected on these forums though as far as I can tell.  It is hilarious how many posts have a "well, of course, I top the scorboard, say, at least 90% of the time playing with PUGs" needlessly crowbarred into an unrelated post.

I agree with the full extraction thing. I'm most annoyed when one person's out either trying to get kills or thinking they are holding off the enemies so the rest of us can be extracted. They're preventing them team from getting the full extraction, meaning less xp for everybody. Selfish.

Trying to get kills everytime I imagine.  However I do wish players, even pretty decent ones, wouldn't camp at the LZ during wave 11.  Maybe it's my inexperience but I find camping at LZ with more than 20-30 seconds left means you'll be swarmed during the last 5-10 seconds, making extraction way harder, unless a bunch of missiles takes everything out shortly beforehand.

But generally score depends on so many factors [your kit, your weapon(s), the enemy, the difficulty, your teammates' kits, ...] that it has no real relevance.

Take a Gold pug for example. Split it into 4. You got roughly what, 115 to 120K estimate. So if you are scoring above 200K and the rest of your teammates are even, around 60K each lets say, then you ar either playing an OP kit, nuking spawns, the rest of the team actually blows or any of these combinations. I have yet to play with ANYONE that fantastic to just obliterate 3 other competent players.

Just like N7 rank and challenge points, which everyone seems to knock, I think score is also a faulty way of displaying skill. In some cases, it does come from knowing what you're doing. In others, someone is just using the easy road (rockets at spawns, cluster grenade disco parties, slash, snap freezing/flamering...come on not that much skill involved guys, etc) to get the points. There's nothing wrong with that. Those are great tools for controlling the mobs, but that doesn't mean you're the most awesome player in existence. It just means you can do large area damage with a character built for that sort of thing.

So I guess it's exactly like N7 rank and challenge points -- you can earn it the hard way through unknown unknown gold and plats or you can bronze it for the pretty banners. Either way, haters gonna hate and few will know the difference.

I've been posting for about 2 weeks, OP, and I agree. Most of the banter in this forum is about Top Score. I don't believe this makes for a good player, though. The scoring system, like many have said, is lopsided toward whoever scores the final shot to get the kill. Pick ups and Assists don't amount to much, and objectives scoring doesn't show how much you contributed.

Basically, play to have fun and contribute, that's my motto.
I do check my score from time to time, to make sure that I'm at least getting some points out of my actions, but If I get to the point where I only care about being #1, then the point of the game sort of fades away. I'd be to concerned with "scoring" and not enjoying the fun of game. I'd stop playing.

Obviously the one with the lowest score is always the best player because he played support.
Also, the more difference between 3rd and 4th, the better the support of number 4 was. 5000 points during a gold is already too much for a good support player.
Spam shield boost every time it's possible, even when there are no enemies around. That's the only way to be an effective support player.

To summarize the prevailing opinion on this forum: N7 level says nothing. Challenge score says nothing. Score points say nothing. The true measure of a man, is in how many UR he has unlocked. As for the true measure of a woman: how many cooties she has.

Uber elite: N7 exactly 120. No banners unlocked except perhaps for the 3 factions, nomad and spectre. Manifest full.

Noob: N7 under 120. No banners unlocked. No UR's

Complete loser: N7 over 120. All banners unlocked. Unmaxed manifest.

Feneckus put it very right a while back in a post, I feel.

The two difficulty levels are designed very differently. While Gold is a good mix of everything, Platinum is just boss spam.

As a result, of all the things that are important in a gold game (dps, spatial awareness, knowledge of enemy behaviour, knowledge of spawn points...), there is only one that really matters in a platinum game: dps. It's all about that.

It gets boring very fast, at least to many people.

This.

Score wh0re's are bad teammates. If you have someone going on a killing spree instead of doing objectives/going lone wolf/ not reviving/getting their ass killed halfway around the map, you are less likely to extract.

This is why gold/platinum is soooo much easier when playing with friends. You automatically work as a team, as opposed to PUG matches where people don't communicate and are less likely to help each other.

I would also like to add that playing with score wh0res is extremely dull and irritating.

That's true actually. Each faction has it's own strategy (altho they are starting to all merge into one IMO with the addition of the last units") and there's far less strategy in a platinum. Everything just rushes at you in one big mess. My plat matches always seem to turn into spam grenade lobbing mayhem.

I don't disagree, but at times, the player has the lowest score because they are always incapacitated.

To the topic, a skilled player and sometimes a good player will have the top score.  One of the characteristics of a good player is a player that helpd a squadmate out of a jam.  Getting picked up by a banshee?  A good player may recognize that the target is primed and detonate a combo to get you out.  Or maybe they will bust out a rocket to save you.

I don't mind if a skilled player does not direclty participate with objectives, but they are a good player if they have the objective in mind and are effective at keeping the heat off the ones that are completing it.   IMO, that is helping with the objective.

Platinum, score matters more, but only as a reflection of being able to do enough DPS to help the team.

Gold and under, score doesn't usually matter. It's usually pretty obvious if a player isn't contributing during the game, which is more important. Most times, you can tell if you need to carry the game just by looking at the loadouts in the lobby.

I agree. This is why when I also started working the lame vids I make I made sure I gamed with other competent gamers. I dont think I have ever had a score with three other competent gamers that has blown them away in anyway and mostly all my gamepay is Platinum. So what you posted here is very true indeed sir.

In regards to pug'ing. I have been doing it for the last two weeks and since you get such a mix of gamers its much easier to outscore everyone by a massive amount. That should not be your measurement of what a good gamer is.

I have this buddy of mine Zeigfried who NEVER scores over 120k on Platinum BUT he is the BEST team player you can think of and I would game anytime with him. He always plays support classes as he likes that role in being a team player. He will prime targets for the team if a biotic or tech character, if a volus he's constantly helping the team stay up, if were playing a tight map he may even play the Demolisher with a pilon specced for nothing but healing bonuses and keep his recharge so high so as to always bring it to the team at different points as we move....and a lot more. I'd say he's an EXCELLENT player and a great guy as well. So...no score is not a determining factor it just means you play one way as opposed to another. My buddy Zeigfried may not score above 120k on Platinum (even though I now he could if he wanted to) but I would bring him in on any game any day as he is in my mind an excellent player at this game.

Eh.

Gold games with good teams get boring too, because it becomes about finding spawns, rather than anything else.

At least in plat I get to shoot stuff if I'm in a good lobby. Image IPB

If you want minions to support your newly acquired, self-proclaimed godhood, you should be a little nicer to us commoners. Only worshipping the hand that feeds us, not the hand that beats us. You really should decide what kind of deity you want to be.

Yup this is all very true, when I play I prefer gold 100% of the time.
The only time I ever switch it to plat is when the group I am running with kills things too fast in gold, which basically has to do with overall DPS that better players prefer in maximizing on any kit they use.

Any good player will tell you platinum was poorly designed as an increment in difficulty over gold.

However, it is both silly to say "high score = good players" or "high score = doesn't mean anything".

Score has a pretty good correlation with skill in my experience.

Taking myself as the constant:
If I'm the lowest scoring person in a PUG then I know we're going to have a nice easy game. If I'm the highest scoring person by more than a little in a PUG then there's a good chance we'll struggle.

If I've really got a bad score and lots more assists than kills I've probably picked the wrong gun.

Of course there are exceptions for some classes. Like Volus.
