Meandering through the galaxy map, I came across this planet:

The Krogan Rebellions began in the asari colony of Lusia. After centuries of unabated expansion, the krogan finally forced the Council's hand when they tried to annex this world. Aware that in a generation, Lusia could be a staging base for an invasion of Thessia, the Council came to the colony's defense. They cut the krogan supply lines off at Thessia's mass relay and inflicted heavy casualties. The krogan here surrendered, but others across the galaxy were enraged. Lusia became the catalyst for a much greater war.

Thoughts?

Of course; don't you know that everything the krogan did in the Rebellions was only out of self-defense? They're innocent little angels whose assault of turian colonies with asteroids was completely justified.

The Krogan were invading a council world. How is that not "firing the first shot"?

Agressive expansion forces an answer like that eventually.

So the Asari got scared that they might no longer be on top..... So they started a war that they couldn't win.

Geniuses.

. It would seem this wasnt a barbarian horde bashing down the gates.  But a peaceful occupation that turned violent after they were attacked.

That's like blaming Poland, France and England for the outbreak of WW2.

What should the asari have done instead, then?

Preventing the warlike krogan from taking one of their colonies and launching an invasion of the capial and homeworld seems entirely reasonable.

Nowhere in that description did it mention that the Krogan attacked the world. They populated it.

. Not uplifting the Krogan in the first place would have been a start.

Yeah, the Krogan were just peacefully annexing that Asari colony.

I was more than a little alarmed when Wrex started his "we need breathing space!" spiel. That said, it sounds like this was immigration - not an armed invasion.

Which would have resulted in the rachni killing everyone.

So lets actually get back to point.

The krogan come along and try to annex a planet that's very close to Thessia. Aside from stopping the Krogan, what should the asari have done?

EDI in Mass Effect 3...

A Krogan female of breeding age can produce clutches of up to 1,000 fertized eggs over the cource of a year. There are over one billion females on Tuchanka. If even one percent becomes fully fertile, they can birth ten billion infants.

After reading about the Krogan birthrate, and some of the crappy worlds they were "given" I can understand why the Krogan started an aggressive expansion campaign. I can also understand why the Council responded the way that they did.

The asari didn't support the krogan, and the krogan are not peaceful.

Austria and Germany had a common culture and history.

Lusia is a major Asari world as old as the Citadel Council itself - more than a millenia had passed since it's founding when the Krogan tried to seize it.

It sounds like, by 2025, Muslims will outnumber Jews living in the nation of Israel - one side is simply having more children. Should Israeli Jews launch some sort of pre-emptive strike?

Note, I am NOT advocating such an action, and neither are they. Not trying to start a political firestorm on the boards, but the situation is similar.
