We all know there are less of us than there used to be.

I also know that I, for one, have had all sorts of intentions for uploading things to the Vault but, being so stupidly determined to produce perfect screenshots and make sure everything looks nice, I never quite find the time. Very silly. Occasionally one questions if there's any point given the small amount of comments/votes/reaction that generally greet most entries though the far greater download counts suggest a different story even now...

Anyway, I find myself wondering about this talk of the Vault's days being numbered, (inevitably true since nothing lasts forever) It must be considered disturbing. I'm by no means the most prolific author on the Vault but the thought of resubmitting every entry I've done to some other site is, frankly, not appealing and I'm sure others feel likewise. More to the point are all those NWN CC creators who are no longer active for an assortment of reasons. What of their stuff? As an archive for NWN CC, I just don't think the Vault can ever be replaced, not unless some other site can bundle up its entire content and workably replicate it.

So, are we to take this comment about the Vault as a vague assumption or reliably informed knowledge?
If the latter, how large or small are the numbers concerned? We need some kind of countdown apparatus if they're small. Preferably with comedic sound effects that sound like crazed raccoons.

(PS:- I never even HEARD of the NWN Nexus... Should this be considered a failing on its behalf or mine?)

NWN nexus is like TES Nexus.
link: http://neverwinter.nexusmods.com/
The categories for submissions: http://neverwinter.n...ods/categories/
the NWN 1 submissions for hakpaks and modules are 22 and 13 respectively. The last module submission was on the 25th of December. The last Hakpak submission was on the 11th of December 2012. Interestingly though, the last time the sounds category had a submission was apparently the 1st of January 1970.

That is interesting. I shall investigate the possibilities of transtemporal submissions at once!
It means I can work on my Doctor Who modules over the course of the next thirty years and then submit them to the internet the day after NWN came into existence and lo, will everybody be most impressed.

@PLUSH HYENA of DOOM, ask Rolo about the vpp.

Re. nwn nexus. I mentioned in my earlier post that it has some design features that are incredibly annoying. I'll give an example (while the responses that I assign the nexus may not be word for word, the sense of those responses is accurate).

I downloaded something from there and thought to give encouragement to the author. Tried to vote. Nexus response - "you must be logged in to vote". Ooops, my bad. This is standard procedure so

Vault 0 Nexus 0

Logged in and tried to vote. Nexus response - "you have not downloaded the file therefore you cannot vote"

Vault 1 Nexus 0

Re-downloaded file, this time while logged in. Tried to vote. Nexus response - "You must have had the file in your possesion for at least an hour before you can cast a vote"

Vault 2 Nexus 0

Catch 22 or what? Gave up and pm'd author on here apologising for non public acclaim.

You need to have an account to download files over 2mb don't you?

I have been informed (informally) by former IGN employees that the owners of the NWVault plan to dump it. What we do not know yet is when. Could be days or it could be months. Or could be another year off.

Rolo has anticipated such an occurrence and been preparing. He has a project called the Vault Preservation Project. I'll even be participating as Rolo gave me a computer to store the files in exchange for sharing my internet connection. I'll be a mirror for the data, files etc ... I think more members of the community that we trust should participate in this as well. Rolo is also building a central website for this. And there are others involved too.

Vault Preservation Project.

I do not know when the VPP will be live so I think it well worth our time to protect our data with redundancy. The Nexus has one major downside - you have to be logged in to download. In other respects however I see it as superior to the Vault. I have moved a number of my projects over there. And I'll be moving a number of others soon. It is already the go to location for the NWN2 community.

<coughing modestly...>

Actually, the VPP has been live - in a rather infantile state - for a year or so :-P

I have only recently taken Cestus' hammer and tongs to it (boy! is he ticked off! He's still searching for them ;-), but it is far from finished. Never will be, probably.

But it is in a minimally functional state right now (you can upload projects (with a 50mb limit on file sizes) without waiting for "approval". Also, you can *transfer* large files from another web-source (ie, put it in your Dropbox public folder, grab the link and use it to transfer in large files).

Haven't built the main catalog/search pages yet (Edit: working on those tomorrow, actually), nor migrated in the old content, but it's coming.

@ PHoD: No one should have to re-upload a thing. But it won't hurt if you do, to get a jump on things.
Edit: I'm working with Pain of Dungeon Eternal to integrate his content management API (the back end of Neverlauncher) so that the Vault will make use of mirrors and community provided distribution and auto-downloading/updating/etc. neat stuff.

You *do* need to register with the VPP to create or edit projects (including uploads) but that's pretty much standard now-a-spam-days :-P

You do *not* have to register to browse or download. You do to contact project/article authors.

@ all: Sorry if I've been a faint presence here lately, but now you at least know one of the things I'm working on :-P

And *cough* link is in my sig. Has been ;-)

Heaving upon mighty chains of steel to redirect this thread toward the ABC again, the shabby Hyena idiot does his back in...

There appears not to have been a May ABC. That said, I'm far too busy running round like a loon back and forth to London at the moment collecting piles of materials out of the back doors of studios - and off the back of a lorry - to get anything done anyway...

My question is whether there will be a June ABC since I shall have some time and was going to do the third chapter of Starbright and Aurelia's crazed delvings, just to take a quick break from the (somewhat) more serious tone of my "Doctor Who" series. "The RED RUNE" is more or less firm in my mind and I've got all the necessary CC in a grubby little folder, ready to go...

So... er... June, right? If not, when?

We can do one in June. But we received nothing at all for the April ABC which is why I figured it wasn't worth going through the trouble of organizing a May ABC.

If people want to do this in June however we should do it.

Well, it doesn't HAVE to be June. July or whatever's fine. I suppose we should find out if anyone else is prepared for June or whether they'll have more time later in the summer?

June is quite close, after all; perhaps giving people a longer warning to be ready would be sensible?

Additional thought:- If you want to run a "Vote for Adventure Seeds Whatsit", then the Challenge itself will have to be July, won't it? I can still work round that without it impacting on the supposed schedule for the Doctor Who stuff so do suit yourself as to organization and so forth. We want others, after all, not just another deluded PHoD thing.

So, thoughts anybody? Free time?

(Yes, apparently there IS such a thing as "free time". It's like the Loch Ness Monster, or the Abominable Snowman - everybody knows it's out there, it's just that nobody ever finds it).

I expect June to be a busy month for me, but I might be able to throw something together for a July ABC, if there is one. As far as adventure seeds go (if others want to do something for June), perhaps those from the last poll, since they were not made use of at the time, could simply be recycled for this one?

Makes sense...

So, anyone else who might have some time in July?

In July, I plan on releasing "Survival of the Fittest" which is a conversion of the PnP dungeon crawl of the same name published by Judges's Guild in 1979. While technically an AD&D 1st edition adventure it feels like an OD&D White Box/Greyhawk dungeon. My intention is use some content from the June CC Challenge: Old School.
