Here is how to enable the developer console in-game and all the goodness (so far) that you can partake, from adding gold to breaking the party limit.

Source: All credit for this goes to the community at Gamefaqs and particularly to this thread at the Gamefaqs forums

First create a shortcut to the game .exe and add -enabledeveloperconsole to the shortcut command line. Ex: C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Games\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\bin_ship\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole

Note for Steam users: You can create a shortcut to the game .exe going to the My Games tab and right-clicking  and selecting create shortcut to desktop on the Dragon Age game.

Ingame press the ~ key to access the console where you can input the following commands:

GAMEPLAY

runscript addxp X  / X= desired amount of experience

runscript pc_immortal / Player can't be killed, tho your hitpoint will go down to 0 but you wont die.

runscript killallhostiles / Kills all hostile npc's

runscript zz_pre_demo2 / Teleports player and party to Ostagar

runscript zz_pre_strategy / Teleports player and party to Duncan's fire in
Ostagar

runscript zz_talk_nearest  / Talk to nearest NPC

runscript SetPlayerImmortal  / Same as pc_immortal

runscript healplayer / Heals player - party

runscript cheat - Inspired: Major Cunning / Adds 30 armor and 100 defense to Party for 120 seconds

NPC / PARTY

runscript zz_addparty NPCname / Add party member by name

runscript zz_addapproval X XX / Add to a companion approval rating, the first  X = companion(companion number as seen on table),  XX = Amount i.e r

1 - Alistair
3 - Morrigan
5 - Shale
6 - Sten
7 - Zevran
9 - Eiliana

Ex: runscript zz_addapproval 1 100 / adds 100 Alistair approval

runscript ai off / Turns off AI

runscript selectparty  / Party selection screen

runscript chargen  / Origin screen

runscript zz_addparty / Allows the player to break the party companion limit.

Note to player: This method presents some limitations, namely the added companion portraits dont show up on left side of the screen for selection, apart from this fact, everything else is available to the companions i.e inventory, skills, etc. Companion banter is yet to be confirmed as working with all added companions.

runscript zz_dropparty / Removes entire party

ITEMS / INVENTORY

runscript zz_party_addgifts / Adds the following gifts to inventory:
-Antivan Leather Boots
-Dalish Gloves
-Alistair's Mother's Amulet
-Duncan's Shield
-Andraste's Grace
-Cute Nug
-Golden Mirror
-Black Grimoire
-Flemeth's Grimoire
-Sten's Sword

runscript zz_givearmor / Adds Dragonbone Legion Armor to inventory

runscript zz_money X  / X=desired amount of copper coins, i.e. for 100 gold  value would be 1000000

class

runscript warrior / Changes player class to Warrior

runscript rogue / Changes player class to Rouge

runscript wizard
/ Changes player class to Wizard

TALENTS, SPELLS, & SKILLS

runscript addtalent X / i.e. runscript addtalent 4020 would add Rogue to the active player/party

runscript removetalent X
/ Removes given talent

Note: Talents, Spells, & Skills all use the same addtalentremovetalent commands.

I am a steam user and by default the target for the .exe shortcut is set as "C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\Steam.exe" -applaunch 17450. Should I change '-applaunch 17450' to '-enabledeveloperconsole' or add it on to the command?

Try going directly to the game .exe on your STEAMdirectory, probably under /bin. I can't confirm this due to not having the STEAM version myself.

The game has been out less than 24 hours and already people feel the need to cheat? Unbelievable! How about trying a full playthrough on your own skill first, or is that an outdated concept? lol

Feel a need to cheat? Probably some people will cheat regardless, but the console does so much more. Its a way to add bugged DLC items (Blood Dragon Armour that goes missing on some of the origin stories), reset skill points without restarting, adding modded items to the main campaign, etc.

Altough those functions are not yet known, i'm sure they are "in there".

Consoles are not always used just for cheating. At times they help to work around the various bugs. For example when you have these unlocked items from the Flash game and play dwarf noble origin, then they actually all get removed when you're exiting the jail because the game clears your inventory. You're supposed to keep these items but no cigar. And several other issues and console helps here to "fix" some of these issues.

I found an entry in Gamespot about enabling the console, but they say to bind a key to Open_Console_0, but if any key I use seems to freeze the game as well. What am I doing wrong? Do I press Enter after pressing the bound key, or something else?

It's working. the game isn't frozen, you're in the console, you just can't see what you're typing. If you're pressing C, and you don't see the char screen, you're in. Hit backspace and type a command. (you're hitting backspace to delete the invisible ` character that's in there)

Does using the console stop the game from gaining any further achievements?

(I could see how it would be useful when working things out for the toolset, I was just never a big fan of adding things I didn't earn, but to each their own I guess)

Hmm... well, I'd like to use the console. But I'd rather know if I can still earn the unlocks first.

Has anyone managed to get any of the achievements after using the console?
