I tried to carry on into DA2 with one of these characters but I just couldn't do it. I lost interest as soon as I got to Kirkwall, a pity really, I was really hoping I'd be able to get into it!

I always get the mad obsession that I forgot to do something. Plus, I love it. And by that, I mean Origins.
I've finished it 8 times.

I did a couple of new DA:O runs in December. I really enjoyed them! For me Origins has lost none of its original appeal, the story and combat are still great.

same here (i only continued a little, because i got the DLC for DA2 (mark of the assassin and the other large one and i was not really satisfied with both - the "blood of the hawke" one was at least interesting because of lore)...but yeah, it lost its appeal pretty quickly (i am back playing origins ATM, with a few mods))

Give it a try. Its not a bad game. Its not as great as DA:O, but its certainly enjoyable in its own right. Most of the venom you see about it rises from a number of legitimate flaws inflated drastically by the furor of fans expecting DA:O2.Yumichika wrote...
I just discover it ten days ago...
Love it story lines and + 1000 to Morrigan
the others are good characters too specially Shale and Oghren.
I start awakening today. got DA 2 but will not play it finally. Never read a game with such bad comments ever specially knowing how excellent the first is still is.
Well i'll start later today and will tell by the end of the week. Depending how many hours it will take to end the game.

If you can keep yourself from expecting DA:O2, you should be fine.Yumichika wrote...

I haven't played since 3 years or so but I want to do a new playthrough for DA:I
so is it playable (graphics ...)? I know it's a bit old
Graphics shmaphics!
I'm perfectly happy playing KotOR right now, and hardly noticing the dated graphics. Gameplay comes first, gameplay always comes first.
As for Dragon Age Origins, I'm almost certain that I'll Istill be playing it ten years from today. It's a timeless classic. I personally regard it as the best videogame ever created in human history... but that's probably me being biased.

What a load of crap. It's enjoyable game. It's not as great as Dragon Age Origins, but it's still enjoyable.
Still it beats DA:O at one thing only, it has protagonist voice actor. Its better than reading all the dialogues u r supposed to say

A lot of people overlook Dragon Age Origins' many flaws but relentlessly bash DA2. While I agree that DA2 isn't as good as DAO, both are flawed but enjoyable games.PnXMarcin1PL wrote...

I think the difference is down to where the flaws are in both games.
In DA:O the flaws are in stats, class abilities, mechanics, that kind of thing - some characters act like spoilt kids and some spells don't work. Annoying, yes, but not that big a deal.
In DA2, the flaws are that the storyline does not make sense, people mutate into glowing monsters with superpowers, Templars walk through your fireballs and death storms to ask you if you've seen any mages and every cave in the entire country looks exactly the same. These kind of things tend to be difficult to ignore.

Still might play through DA2 a couple of times, one more time before DA3 and depending on whats imported to 3rd game I might feel that I have to replay it sometime after DA3.
But as for DAO, I like how my import-save turn out.

Did the same.
If they released an updated version with improved graphics (not a change in style tho! no!), more fleshed out board/collective/regulars quests (so they played like proper quests), and a few more DLC type bits integrated into the main plot (such as Soldier's Peak) then I'd buy it again.
I think a ramped-up DA:O for next gen would sell more than DA:2 did.

or whatever and I'm surprised people are asking for such. It only came out a few years ago, guys, it's not like it's a 16 bit black and white game.
Haven't touched DA2 for over a year now though.

Enjoyable, yes, but it was no where on the level of DA:O, in both quality and quanity. Voiced protagionists means **** all if s/he's stuck in a crappy story that's over in 10 hours.

That, or if the voiced protagonist comes across sounding like a bit of an idiot for the majority of the game. Shepard may have said the odd goof but by and large, Meer and Hale did a cracking job across the series and things got better from ME2 onwards. Hawke's male voice actor sounded reasonable enough but his script was dire - there's only so much a VO can do with a turd.
E.g. Ander's 'Yeah I want a piece of you, handsome' was, IIRC, textually answered by 'No thanks' and voiced as 'Doesn't mean I want you to stop....' WTF? And of course, 'I WANT TO BE A DRAGON!'....
What's really weird is that, despite the fact that I've never genuinely preferred silent protagonists, it didn't bother me in DA:O in the slightest.

I am currently running through a mage play through for DA:O, Awakenings, Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt for my canon in preparation for DA3.
Same here. Only this time I'm really pushing the boat out - starting with a big boatload of extra spells and adding the Dual Weapon Training tree as I go on.
Yup. Mage/Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer/Battlemage dual wielding Vigilance and Spellweaver.
