First playthrough ever started last week. Saw it at gamestop and wondered why I never played it. I beat DA2 at launch though and thought it sucked. I bought origins anyway cause of everyone saying how much better it was

I'm mainly a mass effect guy so that's why I didn't know what was going on

I've yet to play Dwarven commoner so can't comment on it but noble is supposed to be the best.

I recently finished my final playthrough for DA:O, Avren Mahariel, now working on Alesia Hawke.

I've competed DA2 more times than DA:O, I like them both but DA:O can be too much of a time investment.

I haven't touched DA:O in a while, just finishing my ninth character for DA2 though (all of them starting from DA:O).

Once the release of DA:I gets closer, I'll probably do a tenth character from DA:O all the way to the end of DA2.

No one can play Da][ 9 times! Thats impossible. You brain would melt or something.

Actually, those the are just the ones I decided to keep. Image IPB

I haven't played since 3 years or so but I want to do a new playthrough for DA:I
so is it playable (graphics ...)? I know it's a bit old

Yes, it's the only Dragon Age game I still play.

I've played it regularly since it first came out, first on PS3 and then PC. I am currently in the middle of a Dalish Elf game (who is a mage thanks to a mod I found) and it is more than #20. I'm almost embarrassed to say I have all the achievements on both systems. And yes, I'm bragging a bit, LOL. Several different mods have added to the replayability, but even without them I would still have over a dozen.
Have fun!

Definitely play it every once in a while. though most of my gaming time is taken up with Skyrim these days. DA:O is still a great game, even if it occasionally crashes on me when there's lots of particle effects. Love it!

I still play through the origins to relax but the prospect of Orzammar gives me a headache I have 3 characters did everything except Orzammar and landsmeet and ending because I get headaches in Orammar from the monochromatic darkness even with the gamma turned up its hard to take. I love how pumped City elf and cousland get me and how easy it is to roleplay a mage and I have never been able to finish a dwarf though I do have an Aeducan waiting for me to get her out of Ostegar a 2nd time.

I did however just transfer everything over to my laptop so I could have easier access to the game and play more often. I've been revisiting Skyrim recently its not a Bioware game but at east the end of the 2 main storylines were very satisfying and the caves are fun and interesting with their hidden glades and water features and even different weathers snow in one and sun in aother, I have not found any lava yet. I was curious if there would be any. I need to go play my wood elf.

I really don't play it any more, but I might replay an origin story now and again. I find many parts of it quite tedious, and I just don't have the time to invest into another complete playthrough.

Plus, there are other games to play.

The graphics are better than the sprite animation games I still play, so in that department I would assume it's still playable, assuming you can deal with the tragically bland environments of the Deep Roads/Orzammar.

Combat wise a lot of people that I know have had a hard time returning to the slower pace of Origins after they've played Dragon Age 2, or other titles, so if that's a problem for you then you might have a few issues replaying it.

As for myself, I lost the ability to play it when I had a Zevran romance shoved down my throat. Normally acceptable in a Bioware game (though not appreciated) I would have merely ignored it and kept playing, however I had a larger problem with it this time due to the fact I had already triggered Alistair's romance and played it pretty much to the end of the game before Alistair got all "OMIGOSH U DOINK WIV ZEVRAN?!".

Having not once flirted with Zevran, I felt extremely irritated to have unavoidable conversations about topics that had no reason to be discussed and left everybody speaking entirely out of character. Thus, the cramming of romantic content down my oral passage was far less appreciated than normal and caused me to abandon the game.

That's just me, of course - If you can bear the slower combat then it's still very much playable.

I still play baldur's gate, neverwinter nights and half-life. Oldness, isn't really a consideration for me. If a game is good (and my computer can run it), I'll play it, thus I still play dragon age.

I recently bought it for the PC via steam. The mods available really brought a huge new lease of life to it. Considering I've beaten it from start to finish for every origin story at least twice, that's saying something. Beat it with a warrior noble, now started a new mage playthrough.

At Cstaf

Im a human male mage, and I am really having trouble understanding the combat. I know I can pause it and move between my squadmembers and tell them to do powers and potions and stuff, but I still have trouble.

I changed it to casual and I still died like 3 times to the broodmother........I guess I'm just bad

Yes, not as frequently as I used to but I enjoy getting back into it from time to time.  My Dwarf Noble just killed the Broodmother last night.

Absolutely love dragon ago origins, bu unfortunately I can not bring myself to replay it... The game play like mass effect 1 is just to terrible for me to overlook now that i've done the story about 4 times.

The deep roads is the harder of the treaty locations, if you haven;t done the other ones I would suggest doing them first.  Failing that if you are feeling overwhelmed controlling more than one party member, try messing around with the tactics screen.  Even a simple scheme like :
Party member health < 50% - use healing potion
attack - target of (whoever your tank is)
should be enough to get you through 90% of the encounters in the game without too much partymember switiching.

Although on casual you should be pretty much invincible regardless of what you are doing, so it sounds like you must be overlooking something basic/fundemental in the mechanics.  If anyone is still lurking in the DAO section of the forums, you might be able to get some good suggestions there.

I've played about 10 different characters to try to earn all the achievements, and this past week came back to both DA:O and DAII to help out with a mod for DA:O. DA:O mods are what kept me coming back again and again, to see the new content such talented modders have produced. I can't say the same for DAII. It's too short, too linear, un-moddable for the most part (except appearance and tools basically), so it didn't keep my interest like DA:O. I've played DAII more than a couple times to see the different outcomes from my DA:O choices and several mods to see how it changed appearance and weapons. I'm very interested in the new DA coming out, let's hope it doesn't fall in the DAII category.
