Definitely play it every once in a while. though most of my gaming time is taken up with Skyrim these days. DA:O is still a great game, even if it occasionally crashes on me when there's lots of particle effects. Love it!

If you haven't already, be sure to mod the .exe to be >2 GB aware. Solves many crashes that way.

Wait, what?

Dragon age CTD's in Windows 7 64 bits --> partial fix maybe here !

Hi,

I encountered similar CTD's problem with fallout 3 that where solved with the trick provided here (thanks to NMC and Madboris):
http://www.fallout3n...ile.php?id=6510
I
used the same solution for the main dragon age executable
(daorigins.exe) and ... big ammélioration, only 1 CTD after more than
6 hours playing (before I couldn't play more than 10 mn).

How it works:

Windows
7 64 bits is able to address large memory space (in my case I hace 12
GB memory), "standard" win32 executable can't use more than 2 GB of
memory.
Sometimes, when memory space is exhausted, it may cause CTD's and other bad things.
The
files provided for fallout 3 by NMC can be used to patch the header of
any executable, including the dragon age exe file, to make it able to
exceed the 2 GB memory limit.

It is quite simple:

1) download the archive on the provided link
2) edit the start.bat file and replace any occurence of "fallout3.exe" with "daorigins.exe"
3) IMPORTANT: make a backup of your daorigin.exe file
4) copy the file in the folder where you have extracted the 3 GB enabler files
5) execute the modified start.bat and follow the instructions
6) move the patched daorigins.exe in your fallout 3 bin directory, replacing the original file.

WARNING:
If you are using a 32 bit OS, you also need to allow large memory
address at system level via boot.ini edition. Please read the readme
included in the archive

Note: no reverse engineering here, just a modification of the header.

Please, let me know if it solved your CDT as it solved mine.

Best regards and have fun with Dragon Age,

P.S.: I imagine it will not help for any quest related bugs

I still play KOTOR I & II (yay for Restored Content Mod for TSL) and Morrowind (also with mods, mostly graphics ones; that game always had ugly character models). Hurray for Steam!

Technically... no. But I still love Origins. One of the best games I've ever played. I think it has been about 5-8 months since I last played it.

Yup! I had to clear my entire Origins/DAII saves, and my copy of Origins was broke so I had to get a new one....

Happily beat Origins/DAII in order to jump right into DAIII

Now its either New Vegas, Skyrim, or Arkham Aslyum till then

Same here. Of course after playing DA2 it took quite a few replays to get the taste out of my mouth.

I believe this was a fix for Windows XP 64bit - it was notoriously buggy.  W7 should run fine...
although I believe there may be an issue with DAupdater service hanging:

I would, but the lack of NG+ prevents me from doing it as its hard playing the game without my original Warden's appearance.

I wish Origins had a NG+ like Mass Effect.

I do like going back and replaying the different Origin stories.  The City Elf one is always fun, and then roleplaying as an angsty elven woman.  Threatening Duncan with the line "Let's talk about your impending beating" is one of my favorite parts of the game XD.  Alistair disapproves -100

The combat takes some getting used to.  I'm so horrible at it, that I often switch between Casual and Normal.  The roleplaying/ story is worth it.

Yeah, Dragon Age really does need a NG+ feature. I would have loved to have replayed through Origins with a high level character.

Last time I played Origins was 2011. Dark Souls has kept me busy since but plan on doing another run-through through Origins which would be my 8th playthrough.

I'm recording a playthrough right now that I'm putting up on youtube. I have several other characters going as well. I am sort of a late comer to the series though since I only finished for the first time a couple of months ago.

DA:O is one of those few games where I could play it many times and not get bored. Other than a few minor annoying bugs and the 10 character limit, I find it's one of my favorite games.

I also finished DA2 recently. I do prefer Origins by far, but it still has some replay value for me as far as trying the different classes and mixes of dominant personality and dialogue options. (I played aggressive for the most part, but with a huge mix of diplomatic so my character tended to flip-flop between the two, especially during Act 2).

But I have saves all ready to go now for DA3. I am still working on improving, but if I don't finish an ideal run by the time Inquisition rolls around I have something to import.

I actually started a new playthrough last week. Haven't done it in about 2 years, because I just couldn't face the thought of going back into the Fade, or spending 20 hours in Orzammar/Deep Roads, but I'm really excited about it this round. I don't know how I missed the "Traveler" achievement in my other 3 playthroughs, but this time I'm gonna bag that sucker.

if you're on PC, there's relief for half of that.

The thing is the amount of dialogue choices and races would blow the voice actor cost up immensly. Which would result in cutting resources that would otherwise be spent on other parts of the game.

I've finished DA:O twice and I'm close to finishing it a third time.

I've finished DA 2 twice as well but the second time I only finished it just barely. I kept getting so bored of it and left it then went back to it later on.

I keep playing it on a regular basis actually :P but after my favourite playthough with my dwarf commoner, I'm worried that my next won't match the enjoyment standard I had with that one, and then being put off playing it again...
...so until I can create another awesome warden, I won't play it yet. :)
