So after reading up on the geeky topic of the mass effect races, at least the humanoid non-human ones, and reading the even more geekier wiki entry on lightsaber combat forms and styles, It got me thinking.

Which mass effect race would do best in which style?

After thinking on this for a bit, I came up with an idea for which would match each races personalities and usually common traits and general outlooks. I'll post a link to the lightsaber combat entries for anyone either curious to do this or curious about lightsabers in general. And a link for the mass effect universe races, in case anyone wants a reminder or not.

This is my persoanly opinion and not even meant to be all that serious, so if I didn't get something right to you when talking about the forms or the races, or which one I picked for each, feel free to let me know and even post your own ideas for matching combinations if you'd like to.

Well, let's get this crap done.

Form I: Shii cho: Determination Form
Form I, also called "The Way of the Sarlacc," is the most basic and oldest forms of lightsaber combat. It was the first developed style for lightsaber combat, focusing on wide slashes and arcs and step by step advancement towards an opponenent, and on disarming them with a power attack. It has very basic manuvers, straight forward angled slashes ahead and two handed slashes forward in a randomized order to throw off opponenents. Shii cho was made almost directedly from physical blade combat and is great against multiple opponents, almost one of the best thanks to it's emphasis on wide slashing arcs. However, it is also horrible against singular opponents, due to the wide arcs leaving the body exposed, and a singular opponent having enough room to dodge and manuver around the blade to exploit these weaknesses.

Species best suited for it: Batarians.

Now, there are a number of forms that I feel the batarians could do well in, such as djem so or even juyo. The reason however I picked shii cho was not because the lightsaber form is the simpliest, or anything like that. I have a great respect for shii cho as the building block on which almost all other lightsaber combat forms are built upon, and the batarians are one of my favorite races. The reason I picked shii cho was it seemed best suited for what I have seen batarian combat to be like from the game, hard hitting gurellia combat with a reliance on older styles of weapons.

From their blade armor and ballistic blades, to their submission nets and uses of various high damage close quarters combat, it seems batarians love 2 things. They love taking down things using older styles techniques, and they really love high damage weapons. Now, shii cho wasn't just mindlessly swinging your saber at an opponenet, it involved actual tactics and strategies when using your saber, rather than just relying on your practice in using your form alone to get the job done. You needed to think well to make sure your power attack like blows did as much damage as possible, and against crowds and non-lightsaber combatants the style was excellent. However, much like the batarian heavy melee, their attacks often left them open to attack and counter attack, and if you didn't hit the mark you would be dead.

I will be making more post on this as I go on, but if you have any suggestions for races you think would do well, just let me know. Just remember that it needs to be humanoid races, because otherwise hanar greviouses would dominate the entire feild here.

Form II: Makashi: The Contention Form
Form II, also called "The Way of the Ysalamiri," was developed in response to the rise of the jedi and sith factions, requiring a style more suited for lightsaber to lightsaber combat to come about. Since this was developed in response to shii cho, it emphasizes precision, simple footwork, and preventing disarmament, to form a strong defense against shii cho's wide slashes and open defenses. It also focused on conserving energy, and on fluid motions and economy of movement to find and strike at exposed areas of the opponent, rather than using actual strength. It relied on thrust, jabs, and light cuts, using it's accuracy to make up for the lack of hard hitting manuvers that one could do with the style. It's unique curved saber hilt made it easier to control the one-handed fighting style. It's major drawbacks however lied in 2 areas,

1. It could not strike with great force, due to the nature of the movements and conserving energy, along with it's more one handed saber focus.

2. It was ill suited for multiple opponents, almost opposite of shii cho. This was due to it's focus on exploiting enemy weakspots and more stabbing focused moves. And against blasters, the style was very ill suited for defending, while still possible to preform with enough training.

Species best suited for it: Salarians

Salarians to me seem well suited for this style of combat, and it matches their existing tactics already. For a species that maintains covert precision strike teams, thin and fast bodies, and very keen observation skills, the style that requires all three to preform well fits like a glove. The salarians also don't seem to do well against multiple opponents, at least to me, and would do much better one on one, where they could pick apart a persons singular style and exploit it. Their physiology would make using the less hard hitting and kinetically dependent style a natural parring, along with the maneuvers requiring, again, expert observational skills.
