I've played enough to know where the enemy will spawn based on where I and my teammates are positioned on the map. I often scan my teammates locations before a round starts, and then I begin my run to the predicted spawn point.

Aside from that, sound plays a huge role for me in finding enemies. Even before I had a headset I could locate spawns just by listening in and often times you can tell what you will be facing before you actually see the enemy.

if telling people they need professional treatment for being competitive in a video game.

I'm happy to see you said "if" because I never said this.  I've no problem with competition and trying one's best at any endevor.  I think that is a good thing.  My statement was "if score matters" that is, if you are troubled that your epeen is too small it's not particularly healthy.  I've no problem with improving one's skills but worrying or getting frustrated about one's e-peen or lack thereof is an unnecessary burden to put on oneself.

It can appear that many of these threads come from an epeen motivation.  If not, great more power to you.  If it's epeen motivated, well I think that something all together different.

Don't worry about being outscored. I play U/U/Gold/Plat and half the time it just comes out to who has the right class/build for the map/faction that comes up. The other half, well, some players are just flat better at killing things me. In fact, it's usually good when I get outscored because that means I can sorta chill out and have fun rather than worrying about carrying a team. As long as I'm not "embarrassed" because I barely got any points, who cares if someone beats me?

I have a good soundcard and some pretty decent headphones and it helps a lot. I can always tell where the enemy is just by sound.

Lately I've been having hearing problems so I can't take advantage of it anymore and I gotta say the game is harder. I can't hear phantoms sneaking up on me and I can't pinpoint where the sound is coming from so I have to look for the enemy instead of just knowing exactly where they are.

I think just any half decent headset is enough for that. I've only been using integrated sound cards and I've never had problems locating enemies by sound. It's definitely a useful thing to focus on. But you just can't hear every possible thing coming at you in all circumstances, so it's not something one should become too reliant on.

I'd agree with the general premise of the original post.

Played a game with a few BSNers, and while I didnt do terrible, I could barely keep up score wise simply because everytime I even looked at an enemy someone was already blasting it into digital oblivion. Enemies spawning in certain location? I run there only to see it get nuked via Cobra Missile 2 seconds later. I'm pretty certain the Gold and Platinum games we ran that night ended up being the fastest games I've played (not quite speedruns, but awfully close).

I learned one thing after playing with those guys that night... I do not use the sprint button nearly enough, as the phrase should be "If you're not shooting at something, you should be sprinting to enemies until you're shooting again."

Thanks all, for the replies.
I've found a lot of good advice here, and I'll do my best to put that to good use. Although I would like to mention that my enquiry was specified to map knowedge, map movement, etc. Not builds (although if you deem it necessary to make your point, go right ahead)

Now, as for the less constructive comments.

I mainly play Geth Trooper Flamer build. .

Sigh. A flamer spammer gets upset when he's outscored.

Why not learn to play without using some cheap gimmick like flamer, and then you might find you could be competitive with these "better" players you speak of.

Given how much I saw your name on the forums and how much it was respected, I had come to expect better from you. I will advise you to read the first sentence in this thread. I specifically said it doesn't bother me that much, and that I was not complaining. I was merely looking for constructive input on my observations. I also said that I viewed the kit I used as inconsequential, as it has very little to do with the nature of my question,(although I was still a capable player before the geth trooper was released). I respectfully ask that in the future, you keep judgemental comments like that to yourself; this thread was intended to be a place of critical discussion, not insults based on stereotypical preconceptions. I find it disheartening that you would choose to assume the worst in my intentions when it is so easy not to. I even added a preface to discourage such assumptions at the very beginning of the thread.

I think if score matters in a cooperative game then you have some personal issues and you may want to consider consulting or professional treatment. My advice is when you see someone trying hard to kill everything, just let them do it. Fourth place has the same effect as first place in this game. Enjoy yourself and take it easy. If you feel the need to test your skills solo Gold or Platinum but don't post about it here. No one really cares and you shouldn't either. If you do, you should ask yourself why.

It seems that you, just as Annomander did, have failed to really take in the first sentence. I advise you to do so, I specifically said it doesn't bother me that much, and that I was not
complaining. I was merely looking for constructive input on my
observations. As for the accusations of personal issues, I don't understand why that was needed to make your point. I respectfully ask that you keep insults like that to yourself in the future.

In general, it seems that many people have a fundemental misunderstanding of how I view scoring. I agree that the score in the end, does not matter. However, it is a strong indicator of how well you are playing compaired to other people, so when someone outscores me, it means that they are implimenting something into their gameplay that I am not. Since I wish to be as good as I possibly can be at this game, I see no egotistical implications in simply trying to find out what that is. Again, I respectfully ask that future commentors please keep judgemental comments to yourselves, they offer nothing to this discussion.
