It's a good, fairly powerful sniper for classes that care about weight. No point in ever using it over the BW on Infiltrators. I basically never use it, but it's mostly due to me preferring single shot rifles when I feel like sniping.

 

But classes who care about weight are better of with a pistol + scope or a light shotgun or SMG or AR. Snipers just don't mesh well with them. 

 
True. I think it's amusing that the Paladin actually hits harder than the Valiant.

 

Yeap. And weights lower, and can be upgraded to 5 shots. Not saying that Paladin needs a nerf, the opposite.

Even better: if you go for light sniping, the Arc Pistol is like a 6-shot charged sniper rifle if you put the scope mod on.
Neither being overpowered. The lighter SRs can't compare, except the Indra, but it's a different kind of SR.

The only drawback is that you'll have trouble against heavy shields (Prime/Atlas) with the lack of Acolyte. But for more damage, better CD it's a fair trade.

Frankly I prefer the BW being better. The BW was only equal with the Valiant before because it wasn't all that awesome, it was outclassed by a good few weapons, including the Saber. The Valiant cold probably use a buff, but it shouldn't be better at damage dealing than the BW. At most, I would say a 10% damage buff and a 3x headshot multiplier, to emphasize the anti-infantry niche.

i love the valiant - imo, one of the most versatile sniper rifles ingame.

3 shots/clip, decent damage, relatively light. it allows you to carry a sidearm without suffering from too long cooldowns.

on bronze and silver, this gun is a powerhouse.

My weapon of choice on the GE, have it at IX finally unlocked the BW (Now at II) over Christmas and looked to swop but the Valiant gives me a 3 sec cooldown the BW doubles that and upsets my rhythm . Overload, shoot, shoot, shoot, Overload etc.

Back when I hadn't BW X and I played on Bronze/Silver that was my favorite SR (my first promo weapon ever, still lvl 3) and I thought that BW sucked (too heavy, hard to aim) :lol: Last time I used it was for SR challenge.
Now I'm using only BW X on Gold/Platinum on my GI. Perfect for Geth innate wallhack skills.:devil:

I was never wild about the gun on the higher difficulties.

It was crazy to use on Silver though, haha.

I always preferred the Black Widow for aesthetic reasons and now that it's undeniably superior I am just fine with that.

But it can't one shot most shielded guys even with a headshot. So the mook killing superiority is debatable.

I should've specified. It has higher sustained DPS. Using the mag mod sacrifices either piercing or a scope. I will admit Paladin has heavy barrel to its advantage though.

Piercing mod is not a must. You can put scope and ammo mod + AP or Drill ammo and have more than enough piercing. 

And sustained DPS goes to Paladin too + ammo mod.

The only time I'd use the Valiant over the
Black Widow or Javelin is if I'm using a
power-dependent class, in which case I'll
still probably just use the Indra.

I say lower it's out of scope penalty with a big chunk, give it one more shot in mag and we've got a contender.
