Mass Effect without Shepard just wouldn't be the same for me. It would be like Star Trek without Kirk.
They'd have to pull off a spectacular Next Generation for the game to work IMO and I don't really think they are capable of doing that.
Not Mass Effect 4

Next Mass Effect = NME. <- dunno if it's been suggested. I noticed MEN on the first page.
In any case, I prefer it to be after choose a color. Or set it 50 thousand years in the past and be a prothean.

I prefer the next game to be set after me3, time doesnt matter. They can go forward by as much as they like. I want to experience a game without the blasted reaper threat. So go forward as much as you want

That was suggested in the very first post
It still seems a bit silly making a fuss over calling it ME4, but oh well, if it's important to someone, I have no trouble adding the "s.

Calling it now:
Its a reboot/remake
ala "Prince of Persia".

Did anyone else see that Yanick Roy referred to this trilogy as the first trilogy? There is hopeYanick Roy wrote...
Story-wise, the arc of the first trilogy has also been concluded, and what we will do is tell a new story set in the Mass Effect universe.

The most important in Mass effect is the Universe and races, and I agree that Shepards story is ended. I would like to go forward and to see what happens with Earth, with Citadel, with Ranoch what happens with various races like batarians and Leviathan etc, and all this with a new story and new heroes.

here's the analogy I use: Dragon Age:Origins and DA2.
Truthfully, the '2' designation could be considered a mistke since it would imply a linearity that Yanick was talking about; i.e., you expect something like DA:O. What we got was a different story arc that did acknowledge major decisions made in DA:O, but DA2 did not focus on them.
So, Yanick's statement makes sense to me; however, I accept the "ME4" name since it will literally be the fourth major ME game released on consoles.
